All I said was that traditional methods like the spiked cradle should not be used. More modern, less painful methods should be used, such as drugging.
Xenon didn't say that, though, did he? It was TobbeShawn wrote:Secondly, I never thought you (I mean Xenon. You know, the mod? His user name is in green letters? His name starts with an X? That guy.) were kidding in the "Obama will be President after January" thread about how you think death penalties should never be used ever.
That doesn't make it less wrong.Xenon wrote:All I said was that traditional methods like the spiked cradle should not be used. More modern, less painful methods should be used, such as drugging.
Then why do you support death penalty?Xenon wrote:I know that
Yeah, but drugging is cruel too. Not as much as torture of course, but still...Xenon wrote:I know that, but it's far more cruel to torture someone by, for example, whipping them continuously for six hours while hanging upside down.
Xenon wrote:I believe in the death penalty because I think murderers and mass rapists don't deserve to live on this beautiful planet.
A lifetime in prison is not a proper punishment?Xenon wrote:How is it bullshit? In my opinion, such criminals don't deserve to walk free and lead a happy, wholesome life. Prison sentences just aren't enough. We need proper punishments (especially here in the UK).
wtf? You are aware that even if murderers aren't sentenced to death, they will still be imprisoned for a significant number of years, right?I'll admit that it IS immoral to kill someone, but unless measures aren't taken we're going to be bombarded with heartless criminals living on our streets, with the potential to carry out such crimes again and again.
It's not always lifetime, it's often not even 20 years. Besides, what good is lifetime imprisonment? As I said, people are paying to keep them alive. It wouldn't be any good either - I'm sure most criminals would prefer to die (painlessly of course) than spend the rest of their life in prison.A lifetime in prison is not a proper punishment?
What kind of a point is that? If a prisoner walks free, a prisoner walks free.wtf? You are aware that even if murderers aren't sentenced to death, they will still be imprisoned for a significant number of years, right?
Even if it is the case, there are still many other essential reasons. If you think that death penalties have a preventive effect on would-be criminals, you are wrong. Several studies have shown that there is no connection between the maximum prison sentence in a country and the murder rate, or the general crime rate. The maximum sentence here is 21 years, and the murder rate is one of the lowest in the world. If you're seeking to lower the crime rates, there is no point in introducing a death penalty.
And I'm sure most criminals would rather live than die.Xenon wrote:It's not always lifetime, it's often not even 20 years. Besides, what good is lifetime imprisonment? Yeah, after serving his sentence. If the court decides a murderer has to spend 21 years in prison, why shouldn't he be free to go after serving that sentence? What kind of a point is that? Really? I'd rather die than spend the rest of my life living an unproductive, boring, pointless existence in prison. And I'm sure most criminals would rather live than die.
It's dependent on the gravity of the crime they committed, but if for example they murdered an innocent person in cold blood, they shouldn't deserve a prison sentence at all. I think a death sentence is far more suitable.Yeah, after serving his sentence. I've already done that!Name them.
