Hello guys

I was wondering if anyone here is successfull playing rayman 1 on windows XP, without DosBox?

I got it working GREAT in dosbox, but then i reinstalled my computer and now it's buggy again, and i want a fix so that i can play Rayman purely on the windows XP
I've tried the patch thats floating around everywhere, but there's a problem with this patch that i just cannot oversee.. the sound is a bit delayed!
That was why i did all the work with dosbox in the first place, and got the sound working perfectly etc.
Thanks in advance

is there no other way to play rayman on xp than with that patch? =( I make the sound better with my own dosbox, and my own dosbox settings, aswell as the flow of the game etc.. The problem with the patch isnt that the sound "skips" (or, it was before, but i figured it out), but that in this patch, the sound is a little DELAYED

.. thats why i made my own dosbox configuration etc, but i wanna play it without all that huzzle

like in windows xp only, maybe with a patch, but NOT this patch:

ok, since there doesnt seem to be any simple way to play rayman on XP, i'm gonna give you mine:
1) Download Dosbox 0.73, and open it.
2) search for you dosbox.conf file if you dont already know where it is
3) delete everything inside the file, and paste in the following
[sdl]
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=original
windowresolution=original
output=opengl
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=highest,normal
mapperfile=mapper.txt
usescancodes=true
[dosbox]
language=
machine=vga
captures=capture
memsize=64
[render]
frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=normal3x
[cpu]
core=auto
cputype=pentium_slow
cycles=auto
cycleup=500
cycledown=20
[mixer]
nosound=false
rate=48000
blocksize=512
prebuffer=10
[midi]
mpu401=intelligent
mididevice=default
midiconfig=
[sblaster]
sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
sbmixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplemu=old
oplrate=48000
[gus]
gus=false
gusrate=48000
gusbase=240
gusirq=5
gusdma=3
ultradir=C:\ULTRASND
[speaker]
pcspeaker=true
pcrate=48000
tandy=auto
tandyrate=48000
disney=true
[joystick]
joysticktype=auto
timed=true
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=true
[serial]
serial1=dummy
serial2=dummy
serial3=disabled
serial4=disabled
[dos]
xms=true
ems=true
umb=true
keyboardlayout=auto
[ipx]
ipx=false
4) Open dosbox and install rayman via dosbox
5) play rayman
You are free to configure the settings for yourself ofcourse, but these are atleast the settings that works best for me and my computer, actually it's just like sitting on my old windows 95 again
There is only one known bug about these settings, and i dunno if it's the dosbox version or something.. The bug is that sometimes after loading etc, the frames sometimes goes faster than 60fps so that the game is going too fast. Fix this ingame with doing this: press esc, go to video settings, change the framerate, change it back, return to game

That happens to me when running native on fast CPUs. I didn't realise it could be fixed so easily. Thanks.

You can run Rayman 1 perfectly on Windows XP.
Try to look for "D-Fend Reloaded" program.

Native ? I can't see how that could work, since Rayman 1 uses the old DOS API.

I don't understand either, but it works for RayFan9876, as far as I know. I also know that the problem is its use of DOS-based CD-ROM drivers (ie. MSCDEX).

Yep I could work it on XP too without the patch. I think the reason is because the computer I was running it on had all the same hardware as when I first got it. I got it with Windows 98 and then later upgraded it to 2000, the to Millennium, then to XP.

It might have something to do with how the hardware was reading it seeing as I was using Windows 98 hardware on XP.

Maybe there are DOS drivers left over someplace in the system folders then.

No, that's really not true. The only remains of DOS in Windows NT based Windows versions is the shell and shell programs like CD, MKDIR, COPY, XCOPY, etc... .

I mean that it might have stayed in the system folder after the upgrade.

Downloadable DOS drivers... eh?

An upgrade from 98 to XP ? I doubt it, though, because i don't think the Windows NT kernel is able to use DOS drivers.

You can try to use D-Fend Reloaded and try to setup the game, it works 100% on my Windows XP.
I also had the game working when I had Windows ME years ago, until I upgraded to Windows XP in August 2007. But with the program it works greatly.

what are you guys talking about?
D-fend reloaded is just a graphical enviroment for DOSBOX anyway, as windows 3.1 is a graphical enviroment for MSDOS ^^.
Is there something extra with d-fend besides letting people who dont bother to learn the codes, getting to play their games?
