If present-day Michel Ancel were in charge it would probably end up looking like another one of these Rayman Origins games.dartofthedavros wrote:if Michel Ancel was in charge, i'd be ok with it, otherwise, i'll just keep playing the PSX version (if t still works :/ )

Remaking a game in such a way that it's nothing like the original is a different concept. It's called making a new game.Bradandez wrote:Which wouldn't be bad.

I see my sarcastic comment was taken literal.

It's a little hard to detect sarcasm when all we can do is write to each other, unfortunately the sarcasm there was rather subtle.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
I kind of agree that they should not update Rayman 1 with Origins-style visuals, but stick to the graphics of the original, which still look pretty awesome today. Not sure what new features they could add to a remake though; maybe make the graphics smoother and reduce the sometimes-unfair difficulty of the game?

Re: R1 remake possibilities
I don't think the difficulty should be touched, unless it were very minor modifications to make some of the sections more intelligently difficult than just straight-up ridiculous. However, I haven't really found there to be any 'unfair' moments in the game that aren't just passable via a high skill level and quick reflexes.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Best thing is to have difficulty settings like Earthworm Jim had. Easy, Normal, Hard and Original

Re: R1 remake possibilities
While I'd hope that they'd stay faithful to the original difficulty, I'd hope that other easier game modes were included, Rayman 1's difficulty is legendary, and despite some persevering, there are others who'd eventually up and leave, so, OCG's proposal sounds like something I'd agree with.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Yes, I don't think we should be expecting Ancel to make anything highly loyal to the original games or fans. If there were to be a Rayman 1 remake, I imagine it would be made a lot easier for newcomers.spiraldoor wrote:If present-day Michel Ancel were in charge it would probably end up looking like another one of these Rayman Origins games.dartofthedavros wrote:if Michel Ancel was in charge, i'd be ok with it, otherwise, i'll just keep playing the PSX version (if t still works :/ )

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Thats why having a difficulty option is best solution. That way both newcomers and hardcore gamers would enjoy.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Yeah, I think I agree with you guys that maybe the game could have multiple difficulty settings and therefore keep the original difficulty for seasoned players.
However, one of the game's hardest parts is finding all the Electoons and thus, finding Mr. Dark's Dare. Sometimes, you have to collect some tings and then go back where you came and a cage will just suddenly appear, for example. I would definitely have them change that if there was a remake as it can be quite awkward locating the cages.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Well, the ting collecting part isn't necessary, it's merely the cages appearing out of nowhere, the one in the hellish Picture City level was particularly sadistic, I must admit.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
The features added in the DSi game are quit excellent. Although locating secret locations on the second screen wouldn't work on a console version, the ability to skip sections of levels where you know there are no cages left is a must have. No need to torture yourself with Eat at Joe's if you missed a single cage.
I'd also like to see the achievements from the DSi version, though it would be nice if there was more to them then just a menu saying what worlds you completed without using continues.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
The DSi, if I remember well, it featured some level design adaptations to try to reward with some issues that the game had. I remember existing a wierd way to trigger a cloud in Picture City, that implied reaching a totally different coordinate from a Gendoor.
Re: R1 remake possibilities
I'm all for a proper remake of Rayman 1. In fact i have a short list of things I want to see (all originally from a blog I made ).
And on another note, Rayman Revoultion is the example of a remake and not a port.I do have a few nitpicks like the ability to fight bosses again or new backgrounds for the Band Lands so it feels like a music world and not a sky world. But that's just me.
- -A good portion of the cast of the first appear in Origins and been redesign to fit with the rest of series, like Bettilla, the Magician, the Moskitos, Lividstones etc. There are also designs of characters that didn't make it to origins like Mr.Dark or the photographer. Because of the change of race for Dark and Magician, it been interesting to see what the others would look like.
-To be honest the worst part of Rayman was the life ad continue system. While you can get more lives, which is important in the Band Lands and Picture City. Their is no way to get continues at all. It just frustrating at times. the Origins system is good because the level may be incredibly hard but it doesn't feel cheap and an try again better. We all know how rage inducing Space Mama was because of the limit of lives.
-Candy Chateau. Make this a full world. not just one level you can't revisit. And if you scrap the lives, you can make this world even harder than the Band Land and Picture City.
- The ending. While you can say that Origins or Legends didn't have stories, nether did the original. But I know I did something at the end of the new games. All we got at the end of the first game is fireworks. No defeat of Dark scene. No saving you mother scene. Not even a joke or something to smile at like in Legends.

Re: R1 remake possibilities
Hehe, discussion-ho!
However, I'd agree I'd like to see an expanded ending, seeing the actual downfall of Mr. Dark would be nice indeed, and the rescue of Betilla.
Meh, this is a personal thing, but even with the change of race, I really can't say I'd like to see those redesigns in R1, for continuities sake, it makes sense, but having an Originsified Rayman 1 in terms of designs and art-style just doesn't appeal to me. I like Rayman 1 for how it looks, continuity migraines aside, though I guess you could argue that one could take the Origins redesigns and touch them up to fit in Rayman 1, but even that seems to be a bit of a mixed bag for me personally.-A good portion of the cast of the first appear in Origins and been redesign to fit with the rest of series, like Bettilla, the Magician, the Moskitos, Lividstones etc. There are also designs of characters that didn't make it to origins like Mr.Dark or the photographer. Because of the change of race for Dark and Magician, it been interesting to see what the others would look like.
I'll agree to this halfway, I think having lives and continues in the age of autosaves doesn't really do much. But going full-on RO using its one hit system mixed with R1's level design probably wouldn't work, one would have to cave in to the other, and personally, I'd rather have the level designs be kept rather than being overhauled for the RO hit system.-To be honest the worst part of Rayman was the life ad continue system. While you can get more lives, which is important in the Band Lands and Picture City. Their is no way to get continues at all. It just frustrating at times. the Origins system is good because the level may be incredibly hard but it doesn't feel cheap and an try again better. Hmm, I'm all for expansion, heck, maybe have it as is, but expand things after the final boss, instead of being sent to an ending, you instead get an extended final set, there's still that mysterious present, for instance.-Candy Chateau. Make this a full world. not just one level you can't revisit. And if you scrap the lives, you can make this world even harder than the Band Land and Picture City.
Hmm, I think of the three, Origins' ending probably had the best effect on me, only because it actually showed the evil base being destroyed, and signified the end of the reign of Ales Mansay. Legends, while funny, isn't something that left me satisfied at all, less so than Rayman 1, which at least showed some celebrations.- The ending. While you can say that Origins or Legends didn't have stories, nether did the original. But I know I did something at the end of the new games. All we got at the end of the first game is fireworks. No defeat of Dark scene. No saving you mother scene. Not even a joke or something to smile at like in Legends.

That it is, probably the best remake in the series, though I'm not so keen on how they shuffled some of the levels around in the Precipice and Echoing Caves, amongst other things. And on another note, Rayman Revoultion is the example of a remake and not a port.
