I should hope not. It would ruin his look. I don’t care if it creates continuity errors. They should keep his classic look exactly the same.

Would you like them to give Betilla and the Livingstones limbs too?

Hey, Spiral. You're on late.

I am doing my best to ignore the current record day and post as I would on any other.

Ah, ok. :(
Well, if Rayman Origins is attempting retcon, I think we may have to accept Livingstones with limbs. Or we'll have to do a Klingon.

I like Rayman 1 the way it is, and if that causes continuity errors, so be it.

If it just gets on Wii ware, then I'm fine. Then it has enough remakes.

Didn't understand why the DSiware didn't have any of the remake features.

How does it create continuity errors?

Everyone is limbless, no Globox or teensies or any R2 characters.

Rayman looking different between the games. Betilla and the Livingstones having limbs in one game and no limbs in another.

The limbless thing is mostly because of the graphical errors limbs would give. Originally Rayman was going to have arms. I wonder what would've happened then.

Well, we already know that. But I guess he would have achieved even less popularity, because of his limblessness being a kind of "symbol", which many people recognizes him for. But all of the plots would also have changed, and there would probably be less continuity errors when transiting from Rayman 1 to 2.

I'd just like to give my two cents over a few issues here (some of which that were already discussed elsewhere at mapper communities):

#1 the controversy of the PC version being a port. I'm not to sure about this, if you look at rayman designer; all of the worlds still have redundant boss codes (but not the graphics), and other things like that. So the designers did in fact use "mapper," or some version thereof to make the original levels. Therefore, it wouldn't be so crazy as to say they actually made the game on a DOS/windows platform. And since Rayman started out as a SNES game, that makes it even more likely (SNES games were made with special boxes that ran MS DOS and were then converted). Why doesn't the PC version have the fog and other effects, you ask? Well... mapper never supported any of that, if we say the PS1 is a genuine "port," then that stuff could have been added since its not dependent on mapper anymore!

So it may be more appropriate to call the PC version of Rayman a "conversion" rather than a port (if not, don't cut off my hands; but it would explain why Mapper was used for the original levels and other things like that -- no other version of Rayman has a map editor, so that makes the PC version superior over all).

#2 PC version did have the intro; not sure about the extro, but it did contain multiple tracks in multiple languages for it. This was NOT included with rayman gold or any of those super special bundle packs. They didn't have enough room on the discs (I'm assuming) to put the intro/extro in. But the plain disc containing only the original levels (it was a purple disc) certainly did!

I should add, the "rayman advance" port was absolutely horrible. They redid the AI on the bosses, causing weird things with the collision and other stuff (when I say "redid," I mean they recoded it absolutely horribly)... I just didn't like it; if you don't believe, try facing the rock monster boss, the behaviour is just so weird in contrast to the original. Not to mention repeating the first few notes of "band land" on every single level, with reduced ugly graphics!

As for remaking rayman 1, you have two options:
A) use the sprites in their current size & simply increase the resolution, say, 640x480. This would make everything appear smaller, but you'd still have the original clarity.
B) bump the original graphics up a notch in size, and meticulously "redraw" them.

The graphics of rayman 1 ARE indeed very well drawn. Some people might say "ugly" in the sense of the big pixels due to 320x240, but if you view them in their native size, they're quite nice. I don't really have a gripe about the graphics though. I have the old DOS version & mapper -- I don't need anything more! A new updated version would probably mean no map editor...

Don't get confused between "Mapper" and "Rayman Designer". Mapper is a programme they made for creating the layout of the level. Everything else is done in the Events Editor. If you ask me, the developers of the original game probably didn't have Mapper and created the layout by hand in the in-game Map editor. They just made Mapper to make using Designer easier.

It was surely done with the same propouse that Rayman Origins had: a tool to make level designing easier to make.

Yes. In fact, there is actually a misplaced tile in the second part of Space Mama's Crater, further leading me to believe that they had to use the awkward in-game tile editor.

That's exactly what I thought, I think the text in the game for when you select the objects etc would have been a simplified font too as they wouldn't go through all that effort to put in fancy fonts when no one else would of seen it.

That would remove Rayman's whole style though. Rayman looks exactly the way he's supposed to look in Rayman 1. I don't know why Greg decided to change his design to a hoodie anyway. It's not nearly as outstanding. Neither is his Rayman 3 hairstyle or shoes. They're not bad, but they make Rayman look more shallow in my opinion.

*yikes* I hope I'm not the only one here who likes Rayman 1 the best. :p
Anyways, a R1 remake does not sound bad at all, they should reamke it on wii,ps3,and 360. Sorta like new super mario bros, but only with new Rayman. I think it sounds good. :D O and by "new" Rayman I don't mean change his look. They should try making a 3D model of rayman 1. I thought rayman in the first game was adorable ^^

I agree with you, I liked Rayman 1 the best. :P Although I liked the Rayman 2 model the best.
