I think people get married for a combination of reasons to be honest. Perhaps the most significant would be the first option because, generally, the idea of marriage is to secure a long-lasting, healthy relationship and to stake unity 'officially'.

It does obviously depend on the person though - people get married for different reasons.

I'm with Xenon on this one - it can happen for all sorts of reasons but if the couple like really wants to and they are certain they won't divorce then it's up to them. The worst thing is to go through all that with the weddings, kids etc only for the couple to divorce.

Yes, people are taking advantage of the right to divorce by just marrying willy-nilly.

No but becoming married complements and validates the relationship.

My parents didn't marry until I was 8 years old and at the time I thought they already were just because they were together. When people do have kids and are able to look after them, most people are just glad that the parents are together unlike the wankers that frequently show up on Jeremy Kyle.

Really, marriage is more-so just a permanent bond, as I see it. If you want to spend your life with someone, you create such a bond in a declarative manner. Marrying for the soul purpose of procreation (as I see done by so many in Utah (hint hint @ a certain prominent religion)) is simply a stupid option, however. Plus I don't see the purpose of creating large families anymore, besides being selfish. The human race is already successful enough. We don't need more whiny brats filling the planet to suck the Earth dry of every pleasure and resource.

Though, divorce does void that entirely, so I find you really have to live with someone first rather than jump into it to avoid that.

I think it's a mix of:

• They love each other
• Because their parents/friends/whoever want or force them to
• To get legal, social, economical or whatever benefits out of it (and divorce when there's nothing left)

I voted for the first three options. I was also around eight when my parents got married.

I disagree. More people in the world means a greater number of talented people, which means better stuff in general. For example, if the earth's population doubled, that would mean approximately double the number of A-grade game developers, scientists and so on.

Hahaha. I picked Pregnant with child already, don't know what they are doing, and to get benefits from it. Mostly I believe they don't know what they are doing. There are some draw backs to marrying, HALF. HALF HALF HALF. But either way, I would have to be VERY sure of a girl if I was to marry her.

Yes but it could also mean plenty more thugs, rapists, pedophiles and so on. I'm not saying every single child will grow up to be a nobody but some do.

Glad to see someone agreeing with me on the fact that we don't need so many more babies right now, at least in the UK anyway. As much as I'd like my sister to get a new home with her boyfriend, I don't appreciate it being built on top of every single bit of grass left.
