Rayman DOOM (new video showing 4 levels)

Hi everyone, nice to see a place with so many rayman fanatics.
I used to love the rayman games when I was younger, and as I heard the news about Rayman Origins the interest in this franchise came back to me. :D

I have a looong holiday right now and that also means to much free time.
This resulted in me starting a little project - a rayman themed modification for doom. 8)

I already ripped a shitload of textures of rayman 3 (I couldn`t find my rayman 2 CD anymore, I would have loved to put these textures in my project too) and I am now pretty much able to build own levels with them in the doom engine. I also added all kinds of rayman sounds and changed all the player graphics to make it feel like you are controlling rayman - with guns of course. :bad:

UPDATE:
Here are all the regular enemies:

Here are some screenshots of the test level I made:

Razoffs Mansion:

A cave and a random place with crates and grass (I will most likely add little plants for more vegetation and less repetetiveness :wink: ):

Here we have some kind of hoodlum hideout at the other side of the place in the previous screenshot. If you go trough (picture 2) you end up in a little clearing deep in the forest (screenshot 3).

And yep, thats the normal resolution of DOOM. But you can turn up the resolution if you want. If this project ever gets finished, you will be able to play it as freeware, without owning the original doom.

Right now I think about the enemies. I don`t know if I should go trough the trouble of drawing and animating new enemies on my own (robo pirates, hoodlums etc...) or use the normal DOOM demons as enemies, so I could add a plot that goes like "Demons have invaded raymans world bla bla bla" but I don`t really like that approach. The normal enemies out of the rayman games would be the best thing imho, (and a plot involving all the enemies teaming up to take revenge on rayman would be awesome), but as I already said, it would be a lot of work.

I hope you like what you see so far.

Thanks for your comments :D

@thebrazilianskaarj
It is a bit hard for me to understand your last post. If its a question: I already said that I am still not sure if I create all the normal rayman enemies for this game (which is a lot of work) or use the normal Doom Demons. :wink:

Cool work!

I would advice you to use the Rayman enemies since the normal Doom demons don't fit well in Rayman's universe.

Thanks for your comment :wink:

Also, because of the Rayman 2 Demo I downloaded today, I am now also able to use textures from that game.
Finally I can build my own pirate strongholds! :D
I also started making the sprites for the pirates which is pretty frustrating.

I used a higher resolution so you don`t have to stare at tiny pixels all the time for this screenshot (that`s why the sky looks pixelated now btw, it was made for a resolution of 320x200).

By the way folks, I have recorded a little gameplay video, featuring a small part of my test level and some robo pirates I made as the enemys.
The music is just a placeholder.

@thebrazilianskaarji
Wow, thank you so much! I downloaded it, unpacked it with ISObuster and tried to install it, but it always tells me that I have to insert the Rayman II CD. :(
Any ideas what I should to?

Cool references. But I would advice you to drop such kind of weapons, because as Joshua said, they don't fit in Rayman's universe.

Can you try to mod up the projectiles (missiles and electric bullets) with energy balls, and replace the gun skin with Rayman's hands, and make it the "default weapon"? The same should go for the enemies, the weapons shouldn't be with projectile motions that are instant. Another thing that could be changed, is the metallic bar that gives the player status.

@PowerPatrick
Thanks for your comment :)
To be honest, the thought of a pissed of rayman running around in his happy world, slaughtering his once again returned enemies with chainsaws and shotguns was the main idea that made me want to create this project. I don`t want to make a fangame that is close to the real games, but rather a game that lets you do things in the rayman world that you would normally never be able to. And I totally love fangames that do stuff like this.

But I also totally understand your point. The idea of the plasma gun being changed with raymans hand throwing energy balls is a great however. I will most likely do that. :)

EDIT: And yes, the status bar WILL be changed. I haven`t bothered with that until now, because right now I focus on getting the most important stuff done. :wink:

I hope a doublepost after a while is okay. :wink:

I redid the sprites of the robopirate. The old ones looked so MSPaint-ish that they started to hurt my eyes after a while. :wink:
These are almost all the enemies I have drawn, animated and put into the game until now:

Image

Two are missing here. One is the green henchman and another one is the blue chaingun henchman. They were edited versions of the old, red henchman sprite and have to be redrawn too.

Thats awesome dude, I'm guessing you have to own the original doom game in order to play it

No, you don`t. The doom engine is officially freeware since 1997. However, the game itself is not. But it is allowed to create a game with the engine as long as the material out of the official game isn`t used. And all of my graphics (and all the other stuff) are made by myself, so there won`t be any problems. :wink:

More specifically FOSS (Free Open Source Software).
Freeware often refers to closed-source proprietary software.
