Silent Hill.

I haven't played it, but the only game which has ever scared me is Lovely Sweet Dreams Dream Emulator.

Doom - when it first came out... with the lights off and the sound cranked up. The first time you run into a Baron of Hell it terrifying!

The Path was freakin' creepy.

I remember to see once a demo of a FPS game, I can't remember the title but I think it was from SEGA and it had zombies.

The scariest games are the really, really old NES and megadrive games, the ones that aren't supposed to be scary. They can get REALLY eerie sometimes. I remember playing a pokemon game and the music+the black and white made me turn off my NES shaking.
Also, the neverhood scared the hell out of me for some reason.
Nightmarish stuff has allways had an effect on me.

Uuuum, Pokemon is a gameboy franchise, it wasn't on the NES

Are you sure it wasn't an hacked game?

I haven't played many scary games, but on the subject of Pokemon, probably that little ghost girl's appearance in that haunted house in Diamond/Pearl. You walk into a room, see her in the room adjacent to the one you're in, go looking for her, and never find anything. It was absolutely brilliant of the developers to put her in there. Definitely not one of the the creepiest things to happen in video games, but was still an unexpected and bonechilling touch that I commend Gamefreak for.

It's better when you're actually playing the game and don't see it coming.

I hate scary stuff because of my pending paranoia. Pending meaning they don't know if I do have it or not yet.
