Isn't very impressive to me anymore. Is it just me or was I the only one who noticed the game maker prompt window after he died?
All my excitement went down the drain after that.

That is probably one of the most ignorant comments I've ever heard from any members on this board. So you're selectively disapproving all the hard work, simply because of the employment of an game production tool that you apparently disfavor? Gimme a fucking break. Do you realize that this is an actual clone of the original Rayman engine, that along with the other ones has achieved an near-perfect imitation of the game physics and elements, which can easily open up to the freedom of extending this concept even further? Game Maker was at early time not a serious game development tool, and the results were exclusively at amateur levels, since it was lacking a lot of features, but today, it has matured drastically enough to become mainstream for game education. Not everyone is capable of coding an pretty advanced function oriented or object oriented programming language, and because of those disabilities, they won't be able to reach their goals, and the potential creativity has been lost. But this tool breaks those limitations and suits the user with the right functions to actually construct a game the easy way. The only drawback I see of Game Maker is its lack of native portability, since it's currently only designed for Windows, and the Mac version still being in private beta, while an PSP port has been announced too, but the games themselves needs to be re-exported into various binaries formats, and those can only can be run on other operating systems through compatibility layers, like Wine and its forks, if not reverse engineered. By the way, this video is only to demonstrate the artworks Chacanger has created, so it seriously doesn't matter shit where the fuck it's being used on. It could be used on any other fangame, or even being animated. Show some respect and appreciate what he has contributed to the community. /sensebat

Yeah I was kinda disappointed too when I saw the GameMaker error messages. It's very slow and unstable (GameMaker)

Did you even read the video? He said it was the screen recorder being slow, while the game itself was running very smooth. Have you even tried playing RayEngine? If Game Maker is being slow for you, when it must be your system that sucks. Unstable? Depends on how well constructed the game is. The latest revision of it ran without any crash. So what is your point?

The overall UI of game maker is clunky.
I've used it before, and I don't like it. It doesn't "feel" professional.

We're talking about the game, which is only a product of the the construction tool and scripting engine. But if you say so: Just because YOU don't like it, it doesn't necessarily mean that other people doesn't like it either. It has reached its eight major version since then, so are you sure? But if you actually know some ways of improvements, when I would suggest to request them in their forum.

GameMaker is not really professional I think. It's good for simple games and such, but for this kind of stuff I would go for something a little more professional, you know. And I know Game Maker yes, I've made lots of games with it, of which I finished several.

Of course there is a limit on what you can achieve. Advanced 3D graphics cannot be done with Game Maker. But something like a sidescrolling 2D platformer goes really well with it, and they can actually be pretty complex. My questions still stands: Have you actually played RayEngine and looked at the other ones made in Game Maker, to get a proper opinion?

Yes, RayEngine felt lots better, but those errors popped up. That didn't feel good.

If there is any problem with this Engine, report the bugs onto the adequat topic, you're talking about error message and some bad stuff, just tell me what those messages says
About the slow-record, that's because the rayengine was running on 60FPS, which is a little bit high it should run way better in 30FPS

It's nice compared to other "fangames"
But I would rather have a actual rayman mod >.<

Care to elaborate?

Just to prove to some of you, Game Maker can make good games without the problems that some of you may think, take this one for example...

But yeah, recording GM games is actually tough. For example, in FRAPS, I find I have to set the resolution to the game's view window, and then record at a full 60fps.

Yeah, the recording is hard to do, especially with the computer I'm using.

I was really impressed with this Rayman remake. I think everything including the music was spot on. Definitely the best attempt i've seen. So what if it's running a bit slow at the moment etc. it's to be expected when you are trying to emulate a game that was made by a team of professionals.
