Rayman 1 for PC: Were there 2 versions? 20/25 vs. 51 tracks?

Hi all,
I was pleased to find a proper version of
Rayman Gold (i.e. with music, not the Focus edition) on eBay, and even more pleased when I tried DOSBox and found that it after almost no configuration (and using a bin/cue image, since OS X DOSBox can't read CD audio) the game worked brilliantly, which I don't recall it doing in a previous version. Now to work out how to get Designer running! Anyway, on to the topic.
My only real complaint regards the way in which each world's music/SFX tracks are combined into single audio tracks on the CD, unlike the PS/Saturn versions which have them separately. Thus my PC copy has 20 tracks (including the data track), rather than my Saturn copy's 51.
I've read here (
e.g.) that there do exist PC versions with the separate tracks, and although it's hardly a game-breaking issue, I would quite like to get a hold of one if I could. Does anyone here have more information on this and/or how to identify one of these (assuming they do exist)?
Thanks!
P.S. Failing finding one on eBay, etc. I wonder if it's available via 'other means'? (I don't advocate piracy, but it's basically abandonware.) Lest I get banhammer'd, I can easily photograph my PC, US Saturn, 2 UK Saturn & GBA versions, and PC & DS versions of
Rayman 2.

Welcome. Such versions do exist, but I, like you, have searched eBay and been unable to find any. I actually wasted a considerable amount of money on versions that I thought were right.
Also, people don't get banned for piracy here.

My Rayman Collector also doesn't have all the tracks from the PS1 version.

Thanks for the replies. Ah, I misread the linked thread; it's RayFan9876 that apparently has it? Maybe you guys are right, and only one copy was made!

I've just been shooting questions to various sellers on eBay, but had no luck so far either. Ah well!
Haruka, I'm thinking of buying Rayman Collector soon. What are the new levels like? It basically includes the original game, 24 New Levels, Rayman by His Fans, and 60 New Levels, right? That would be ideal; I'm looking to get all the officially-released levels in one package, if possible. And if I'm not mistaken it was released under the name 100 Niveaux Edits, too (see the
Ubi page on it).
Anyway, thanks for the welcome and replies.

I suppose it was silly of me to worry too much about piracy on a music download site (and one with a forum hosted on "Pirate-Community"

)

The Rayman Collector is the most complete pack that exists from Rayman 1 era. It includes the original R1 game (But the cutscenes do not exist, aswell some musics are missing), includes Rayman Designer with 24 playable levels (Which together compose Rayman Gold), Rayman 60 Niveaux Inédits, Rayman Par Ses Fans (I think these two together compose the pack of 100 Niveaux Inédits), a 5-minutes interview of Rayman 2's Making Of and 3 flash mini-games.

Excellent, thank you for the confirmation! Hopefully it'll still be available on eBay when I have money. Is this edition OK? (i.e. not music-less like the UK Focus verison of
Gold or anything daft)

Now I suppose I'll wait for RayFan9876 to appear.

Jaxx has one too, just so you know.

I can't get mine working right now for some reason, it's being fiddly. Also for some reason anything CD drive related
doesn't work, it gives me insufficient privileges even though I am the owner/admin, meaning I can't touch the files that are on the CD to make an ISO of them. I blame Windows XP on this one. I recently got a boot-sector virus, causing me to lose the data on two of my four harddrives, which included all the flash work I've done since I was nine, and I have to reinstall all my OSs: Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. I've only installed XP so far because at the moment I'm very into music production, and the only thing the MBox 2 is compatible with is Windows XP when it came out in 2007 because it's effing retarded.

I know how it feels to lose very old data on hard-drives. Once, I had a hard-drive over-heat and I lost an awful lot of stuff, which had been accumulating since I was 8. There was also a hard drive that I plugged into a faulty motherboard, possibly with a faulty cable which ended up getting erased as well, and it was even older. Fortunately, all the stuff that really, really mattered happened to be someplace else as well.

RayFan9876, unlucky about your hard drive troubles! :/ My laptop's battery died, so it must be plugged in all the time, but thankfully I have no disk problems (besides my laptop HD and iPod not being big enough for everything I want to store/download

). Still, I'm sure one of them is scheduled to fail…
If you do ever get your CD drive working, I'd be interested in a rip of your CD; the best format to get both data and music is bin/cue.

I would prefer to find my own copy, but they seem very rare, and hopefully I'll soon have
Collector to keep me busy anyway.
Also, whoa, you quadruple-boot your PC? And coincidentally, I used to have a Digidesign MBox 2, but I sold it for a Line 6 POD X3 Live.

By Collector, you mean Rayman Forever, right? That's what I have, only 20 tracks.

Collector's a French-only edition that has even more: More levels plus minigames. I have Rayman original, Rayman Forever, and Rayman Collector.

Oh yeah, I should have said that I don't expect
Collector to have the separated tracks; I'm just getting it for the many new levels.
I take it there's definitely no point in getting
100 Niveaux?
Its cover makes it look like it's simply a renaming of
Collector. I read that there's also an identical package from the Netherlands, called just
Rayman

From the Netherlands? Really? I'll search that.

To answer my own question: Yes,
100 Niveaux is, according to
its official page, the same as
Collector.
Edit: Actually, according to the
back cover, it may just be an "add-on for owners of
Rayman", i.e. not include the original game (and maybe not even
Gold).
I'm very confused!

It says it includes the 100 levels, the mini-games and the making of Rayman 2 video. Sounds like Collector to me.

As I said, that's what I initially thought, but then I translated the text at the top of the blurb, which apparently reads "Add-On for Owners of
Rayman" or similar. Maybe that's just a figure of speech, unless it's similar to the standalone
Rayman Designer in that the original game is not included. Not that this really matters; I have the original game as part of
Gold (and several images of the standalone version), and in any case the copy of
100 I had my eye on is apparently no longer available. So,
Collector it is! Soon… :)
Rayfan, I found your videos on YouTube and they do indeed sound just like the PlayStation version. You said in one comment that it's a "limited edition of
Rayman Forever"; now I'm even more jealous! Get that CD drive working.

(Can I also ask what are the forum and YouTube user names of Jaxx, who was mentioned earlier as having the same edition?)

Jaxx isn't on this forum, but his YouTube name is Jaxxckle. He seems to have the 50-track version of Rayman 1, but an ordinary version of Gold.

Thanks for the info; I've sent him a bothersome message on YouTube.
