Is there actually any evidence to support the idea that moderator edits are always invisible? From what I gathered, that message appears arbitrarily and we have no control over it.

Moderator edits are always invisible. Try editing some of your posts (that have already been replied to) and see for yourself.

I oppose this privilege very much because it allows moderators to edit other people’s posts as they wish without that editing becoming a matter of public record, and also because it gives them an unfair advantage in arguments or debates. And in accordance with this site’s unusual rules, anyone who attempts to draw attention to specific instances of this can be told to ‘only respond to moderation via PMs’ and sanctioned if they do not comply.

If that's the case, the "privilege" is a default setting to phpBB 3 boards, and there's no way to remove it without altering the board's configuration.

None of the moderators are using this to their advantage though so I don't understand your strong opposition. If a user's message is edited, this is made clear by red text or a moderator's signature. In debates nobody's disadvantaged in any way if they choose to edit their message, and moreover, an obvious way to remove the bother of an unwanted edit is to actually re-read your message and make changes before submitting it.

Aren’t they? I find that a person’s credibility is undermined somewhat if all their posts have ‘This message has been edited’ notes beneath them, which is why I dislike editing my posts here in general. Someone who gives the appearance of never needing to edit their posts will seem more smooth in their writing or discussing and less prone to making mistakes. Normal members can’t go back and edit their posts in a debate to make their side stronger; moderators can. If a moderator must always sign a note when they edit someone else’s post, I don’t see why the process shouldn’t be automated. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that moderators can currently edit other people’s posts anonymously and without consequence if they so choose. I can’t think of any good reason for this.

To be honest, I wouldn't see an edit as a great breach of credibility. People edit their messages for various reasons; sometimes it's only to correct a typographical error or to resume writing an argument. A few weeks ago you shared similar views with regards to people using Americanisms, and even people using standard keyboard apostrophes as opposed to proper, curved ones. I feel you're perhaps a little over-evaluative of peoples' posts.

As for moderators' ability to edit messages, I think we can automatically assume all moderators are sensible and mature enough to not go round needlessly editing the posts of others :)

What posts are you talking about? As far as I can recall, the single time I mentioned my preferred use of apostrophes was when RayFan incorrectly said that I was using single apostrophes when I should be using double quotation marks. The Americanisation of the English language is a subject that has been discussed here several times, so I’m unsure which incident you’re referring to or how it parallels my views on the editing of one’s own posts.

Can we? The moderatorial hierarchy is as open to corruption and misuse as any administrative system.

I wonder how one could corrupt a moderator on a forum.

An administrator could make a corrupt member into a moderator.

You seem to have missed the point. My point was simply that most members here aren't bothered about the visibility of a small edit message at the bottom of posts, and probably agree with me in that reconfiguring the board's setup is not a worthwhile investment of time and effort.

And by the way, none of the moderators are "corrupt".

A corrupt person who creates an account on the forum.

I never said that any members besides myself were bothered by the edit message, I have no idea how much time or effort reconfiguring the board’s setup might take (and I never requested that this be done, only stating that I would be pleased if it was), and I never claimed that any of the moderators were corrupt.

In that case, I guess we need discuss this no further :)

What is the worst thing you ever ate/drank? (It doesn't have to be food,i once ate a flower :P)
Oh boy, topicyness!

I once ate at George's in Pefkos, Greece. They had cheese on the menu and burgers so I asked for a cheeseburger. They said they didn't do cheese. When the burger came back it was with SALAD and it was seriously overcooked.

Any type of popcorn is bad, especially when you're at the cinema. You get up to leave and you step on three pieces of popcorn, already sticky. Disgusting.
