Ask yourself: "Do I like a quick and speedy round of Mafia, or do I like a slow, long, articulate, and debate like mafia?"
I'm sure many of you would rather a round of mafia go fast. But I'm sure there are those who would want to have the time to think and lay out plans and be able to argue someone to death.

Game pretense
Common roles
Village = Town
Mafia = Scum
Key points for town to win: They need to be active. They need to re-think their reads. They need to scum hunt. They have to try to save possible townies. They need to think in the pov of scum, and think back to themselves. They need to press on other townies to talk. (Make sure you make your suspects talk)
And of course, town must be right. The earlier they make good decisions, the better the chance of nailing scum (mafia) in mylo/lylo. (Near endgame)
Key points for mafia winning: Mafia need to lie. They also need to blend in with townies. They must act stupid so that other townies could just disregard their actions and themselves as useless. They must make fake alliances with townies, and make it look like they are scum with an actual townie.
You see, Mafia have the advantage of info. If they have a hard time coming up with suspects, it may be because they are trying to avoid getting their scum mate killed.
Anyways, I was wondering who would be interested in an IM based mafia? Of course, it would be unthemed, but would go quick. Rounds would usually be 30 minutes at least, two around 3-4 hours for really big games. Yeah, that fast. Yet, it is definetly about gut reads here, and not about meta (how the player usually plays as whichever alignment) I have aim, skype, msn. Everyone who is interested in playing should post their IM's, and add me. Then, we'd have to schedule a time to play (when everyone can be on)
This method eliminates the problem of long term inactivity. Everyone who in's would have inned within 20 minutes before. The only problem is that the person could be afk, or would have to leave suddenly. That is the cost.
Rules:
NO quoting the mod, you will be modkilled. (don't worry, rounds should be quick so you could play again soon)
Votes should be in bold if possible, and be in the format of the following: ##Playername. No need to unvote to vote anyone else.
There will be a deadline set. Deadline's help town know when to have a plan setup, and be able to organize the members with strict effectiveness. Remember that scum have the advantage near deadline.
Setup would either be closed, semi-open, or open. Since some players are new it'd probably be open.
Confirm your role in IM to me.
No insults. This includes personal attacks.
Once a lynch occurs, it is irreversable upon the flip of the mafiet.

Also, I generally prefer my mafia to be serious. So players should list their preferences like this:
IM's that I use
Serious or silly
Fast paced or slowly paced
Rounds with nights or just days (generally smaller games have no nights)
Simple rounds based on mafia princicples, or rounds dependant on role mechanics (basically, do you like having roles in a game, like doc/cop, or would you rather be normal village townie and argue your way through)
If you would like to discuss anything else, please at least post this first. : D I would like to get an idea

Game pretense
Mafiascum.net wrote:In its simplest form, Mafia consists of two sides: the Mafia, and the Town. The Mafia's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Town's goal is to kill the Mafia.
At the beginning of the game, the Moderator will secretly send everyone their role. The Mafia will know each other, while (in the basic game) everyone else will only know their own role.
The game has two phases. Usually the first is Night. During Night, the Town can not communicate, but the Mafia can discuss and choose someone to murder. After the Moderator has received the name of the victim, the Moderator reveals the dead player, and Day begins.
During Day, the Town must choose someone to Lynch; they are trying to eliminate the Mafia, but the Mafia can lead them astray by casting suspicion elsewhere. Generally, players will vote for someone they think is Mafia (the Mafia will vote so that they seem to be doing this as well, and might even vote for each other to confuse the Town); when a player gets a majority of the votes, they are lynched. Their role is revealed by the Moderator, and it is once again Night.
The game alternates between Night and Day until either the Mafia are eliminated, or the Mafia have killed everyone else.
Common roles
=================================================Mafiascum.net wrote:The above suffices for a Vanilla game, but most games of mafiascum have roles other than just Mafia and Townie. These roles have additional abilities (which are usually used during the Night, though there are some Day abilities as well). The most common are listed here.
Cop - Each night, the Cop can investigate one player (by sending their name to the Moderator), and finds out whether that player is Mafia or not. The Cop is on the Town's side.
Doctor - Each night, the Doctor can choose one player to protect (by sending their name to the Moderator). If the Mafia (or anyone else) tries to kill that player, they will fail. The Doctor is on the Town's side.
Vigilante - Each night, the Vigilante may kill another player (by sending their name to the Moderator). The Vigilante is on the Town's side.
Mason - The Masons are a group on the Town's side who know each other and can talk to each other at Night.
Serial Killer - The Serial Killer (often abbreviated as SK), like the Vigilante, may kill another player each Night (by sending their name to the Moderator). However, the Serial Killer is not on the Town's side or the Mafia's side. The Serial Killer wins when everyone else is dead.
Multiple Families - Often there is more than one group of Mafia. These act independently of one another, and must kill the other group as well as the Town in order to win.
Roleblocker - Each night, the Roleblocker can choose a player. That player will be prevented from using his or her night choice, if they have one.
There are many variations on the above roles that will often appear in more complicated games; for more information, visit the Roles page.
