I first used Debian in 2007 I think. I installed it in a dual-boot configuration on my brand-new Windows Vista PC. At the time I don't think I was too impressed though. :P

I tried to use Mandriva and Ubuntu back in like 2005 and I didn't have a clue how to use it, so I just went back to XP. :P

My first distro was SuSE, at the end of 2005. That was almost exactly 10 years before I built my first LFS system. :nostalgic: I actually thought it was quite cool, except that it couldn't use the WinModem in my PC, so Dad had to go and get an even louder, slower and uglier external one that plugged into the serial port so that we could take it online. :P

I had a couple of people that kept telling me Linux was better, but back then it was hard to find any programs for it that worked. I recall not even managing to get an emulator to run back then, but then again I didn't know what I was doing. :P

I remember the feeling of triumph in 2012 when I got PCSX-reloaded to play Rayman 1 (almost) perfectly on Ubuntu! :D :nostalgic:

I'm so late to actually getting Linux to work. :P

I'm still happy that it's up and running either way, I just wish I had done these things years back.

With gaming on Linux adapting to this stage, I probably joined just as it started to become easier. :P

Yes, Proton's a huge leap forward! :D

Even Lutris makes certain things easier to work with when it's not a Steam game.

That's also true! Still, Proton's enough to make me forgive Valve for deleting the old Steam forums without warning…

Origins still doesn't just work out of the box though, the sprites will be missing.

Yeah, that's bananas.
Someday I'll have to learn enough about graphics code to bloody audit WineD3D and find out what it's doing differently from Gallium Nine and D9VK.

It's odd that Legends works perfectly though even with the similar framework.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the issue is Ubisoft's fault, and that they fixed whatever non-standard kludge they had done in Origins when they made Legends. Ultimately it's probably Microsoft's fault for implementing all this weird undocumented/undefined behaviour (the reason Wine is such a difficult project in the first place).

The biggest issue is that Nvidia users have more issues that AMD ones because of having to use Nouveau drivers.

Nvidia are trolls. :fou: Still, what does one expect from a company named after one of the seven deadly sins? :P

It's nice that he mesa drivers are open source, at least they can always improve.

Yeah, Mesa's a great project. Especially the nouveau work, that continues despite all the obstruction!

People even said they're better to use than the actual AMD ones.
