Very interesting find indeed. That dude with the cigar looks very interesting, would he be an enemy or a friendly? He does look a little creepy to me, haha.

Holy shit what is this:
I see that there is also a close up to the candy castle at the far right of the picture.
I love how after so many years we are still finding new and interesting stuff about the early versions of Rayman 1!

I think that image is quite easily what caught a lot of our attention. It's very daunting looking, but pretty neat.

It seems that Mr. Dark was originally a bit more racist that we realise.
Although I would personnally call this foe Mr. I-will-smoke-that-cigar-in-your-nightmares

Looks like Rayman's standing on top of a giant violin or some other string instrument at the bottom. Also, whoever that face was for (could be anyone, not just Mr. Dark), it's really cool-looking and fits R1's world really well. But yes, if it was Mr Dark, he was likely changed because having the only black guy in the game be an enemy is a little risky.

And naming him as Mr. Dark. I personally don't believe that this figure is the main antagonist of the game.
Something interesting that I noticed about the face and the possible string-instrument is that they are most probably only tiles/background, because they are not in the form of a sprite.

It looks like something from Bugs Bunny. And might have been in Picture City.

Also OCG, you did say this black man's face was the original design for Mr. Dark. Where's the source on that?
