Croc is okay. The platforming is enjoyable but the environment and graphics are really dull.

I really think Kao's graphics deserved to be much better. Come on, Croc 1 was made in 1997 and did a better job than a 2000 game. Do I even need to show Rayman 2, a 1999 game (Croc 2 is also from 1999, with a much bigger improvement too)?

@Keane I don't know what you mean about dull environments because if you mean detailed backgrounds, that was never the trend of the art direction in first place.

Kao 1 was, at the time, pretty frustrating and difficult for me, but pretty damn fun.
Kao 2 was better, but I kinda enjoyed the first one more (if that makes no sense for you: I acknowledge that the second one is better, but I kinda had more fun playing the first one)
Kao 3 was bullshit

Oh hey yeah I do think it was Poland-only. But its level design is shit and it's a bad game in my opinion.

Thats most likely the reason why it was never released outside of poland

I do somewhat agree with Adsolution, I own Croc for Saturn (played the PC version a bit, yar har Piratebay)
...In all honesty it's quite a cute nice game, however to be honest the game well (don't kill me here) seems a bit bland to me, and compare it to the atmosphere of all the other 3D platforming titles, Rayman 2, Spyro, Crash, Banjo-Kazooie! These games were released around the same time of Croc and for some reason, they seem to have a lot more detail put into them. I'm not bashing Croc, in fact the first one is a great title, I simply wouldn't compare it though to what else was in the market at the time. Croc is good and I still want to reserve my full judgement until I finish the full game, but the textures, level design doesn't seem at all mind-blowing to me, especially the given year it was made. I mean this game was made while other much more detailed titles were out. Croc is an interesting character, he is CERTAINLY no Bubsy, oh hell no. And it's a great game, it's not bad by any means, I just don't find it amazing in the slightest, and I think other platformers out in the market had a lot more to offer then Croc did. Again, the game doesn't suck by any means, it's good but it's not special, I can understand you grew up with it, so you have a special bond with it, I don't want to kill that for you, I still need to finish the first and second game. Again don't use this against me please, I like Croc, but I just don't find it a mind-blowing game, and the levels do seem rather dull at times, with WHAT was in the market at that time, I would not call it a competitor, that's not to say it wasn't good though again. However I think Croc, the character himself is actually quite nice. The way the game controls on the consoles though is actually very slippery and annoying, it's seriously kind of like Resident Evil 1-3 (LOL COMPARING CROC TO RE), just in terms of controls, however RE's controls were actually smooth, considering I DID play the PC version of Croc, I can confirm Haruka is right about the controls.

Hope you took the time to read all that Haruka, just my two cents.

Bubsy is the worst mascot ever created.

That's a little difficult to read, Rayfist, I'll bullet point your thoughts.
  • You don't hate the game, you feel it is good, but not to the same significance as other titles in the era, and it can't compete with them.
  • You haven't played the games through completely, so these thoughts are preliminary.
  • The game feels bland, compared to other platforming titles of the era, such as Rayman 2, Crash, Spyro and Banjo Kazooie, and doesn't hold the same atmosphere.
  • Croc doesn't appear to have the same amount of detail as these other titles, its textures and level design don't have the same effect.
  • Croc is an interesting character, and is no Bubsy.
  • You appreciate that others like it and have a special bond with the game, growing up with it.
  • You feel the control in the console versions is slippy and annoying, but agree with Haruka that the PC version's controls are far superior.

Thanks for doing so but honestly that isn't hard to read.

I guess the way I typed it is a jumbled mess, no typos as far as I can see, thanks Master :p

I understand your point, Rayfist, but although the graphics aren't jaw-dropping, I do enjoy the simplism given through them. Simple graphics, but they aren't unpleasant to the viewer. Croc was never focused in detailed graphics.

Unfortunately, from my experience, I did find the graphics to be unpleasant. The textures all looked as if they were a completely different style, and, aside from the underground areas, most of the game had very clashing colours.

I want to like this game and what it has to offer, but it doesn't seem to be working. >:

I never understood why some people mind graphics in general? I only look for gameplay and Croc has amazing gameplay.

Well not everyone has same views. To me, graphics are among character design least important aspects (don't confuse character design with character personality. I hate when characters change personality but usually don't care for design).
