Well, we will need turning to make it look nice, though I know what you mean. We'll keep it simple in the beginning and if we then decide to want some more detail, we can add turns etc.. Good idea.

I've decided I want to do Lunette for this. But you may all still submit artwork, for sure!

EDIT:
Since you're such a good modeller, That3Dguy, I would like to know if you'd be up to help us in this project? It would be ever so great!

There are no turning animations in any 3D Rayman games. Nonetheless, sidescrollers are much easier to program.

There was some smooth changing of directions thought ( only in r3, r2 didn't whent so smooth )

The title is far too Mario – it makes it sound like a rip-off. It should have ‘Rayman’ in it, of course; maybe work ‘Glade of Dreams’ in there somehow.

‘Rayman: Glade of Dreams Showdown’

Stupid example, but you get the idea. It should have its own identity.

I don’t think it should centre on the Robo-Pirates – that’s the biggest mistake made by Rayman M. ‘Boom Bang’ is too similar to ‘Crash Boom Bang’ (a rather bad Crash Bandicoot spin-off), and ‘Bonanza’ doesn’t really make sense for the title of a multiplayer game.

I can't think of a much better name than Rayman Arena honestly.

Rayman: Battle for the Glade? Battle of the Glade?

<-- environment artist? :D

In all seriousness though, I can not model. only concepts of environments from me.

I've actually been sketching the Buccaneer for a few weeks by now, just as a time killer if I didn't have anything to do for work. When it's finished, I can put it up for somebody to model, as if it were a piece of a background. but it's a detailed one and it might get difficult.

I could also make completed 'flat' backgrounds for the maps. The pros of this would be an artistic look brought into the game and taking pressure from modelers. Cons...it's a flat image. :D It's up to you Shroob.

I'd like to be a part of this, I would do concept arts of any sort. it doesn't really matter to me. But no modelling. I suck with computer programming/modelling etc.

As you already know I've been working on a sketch of the buccaneer before the idea for this game, so here's a suggestion.

Because the Buccaneer was destroyed in Rayman 2, I'd been mindstorming a few times, "what if Razorbeard returned again?". I found it a fun idea to draw this out.

*Ahem* Gentlemen,

Buccaneer 2.0, WIP.

Update: Sketch is finished. I will finalize it soon.

As for the suggestion, this could make out to become a plot. I think a brawl game regarding the return of the (more technically advanced) pirates (ofcourse teaming up with the other enemies) would make a great one. If you guys like that idea, I'll come up with more redesigned pirates for possible characters and more advanced looking pirate ships for environments.

But like others suggested, the game's name needs an improvement. Something with the word 'showdown' would be nice.

Noooeeees there goes my whole idea for my other fangame! D:
Nah, I can still have my own game even though Revolution and now also you seem to have stolen my ideas before I ever knew of the game or your project. It's kind of sad, that.

I'm not sure if the game really needs a plot, but maybe we could incorporate this singleplayer kind of thing like in Brawl, which does have a plot. Could be nice, I don't know. As long as we don't make it look too much like my other game, or I'll have the problem of being 'unoriginal' - even if my ideas were formed completely coincidal with ideas already worked out. (It's actually a bit like evolution... parallel idea-sprouting.)

Yes, spiral, there was a pun intended. I was already thumping in my head to try and think of a good name, but instead, I just thought I'd make something that everyone would recognise immediately. It wasn't supposed to become the end-result title, but it's good to have it pointed out so people also get thinking about that. Thanks for your thoughts! Every critique, help, comment, joke or idea can help in this game's progress!

I must say I'm really glad of all the enthusiasm in this project! I hope we will actually be able to get at least a beta running eventually, and if that's up, we can see if we want to push on. I will now systematically comment or reply to above posts and requests.

ikke, I was already thinking about skins for characters, yes. For example, we could have a Globox/Uglette skin, a Grand Minimus/Teensie Wizard/??? skin, a Ninja skin for the Henchmen, or any other characters we can think of. But first we must get the game itself off the ground.

that3Dguy, I am very glad you'd like to model! Welcome to the team!

Spanex, of course you can be the envioronment designer! Could I ask you to then also be the stage designer, since this is highly coincidal with the background? I could also help you, naturally. I'm quite creative myself, if I am allowed to be arrogant for just one second.
Now, about your question regarding 3D/flat backgrounds, I think it would be nice if we have realistic 2D backgrounds. I don't know if anyone here plays Halo, or has at least seen the backgrounds in it. You can clearly see there that the backgrounds were drawn, though it looks so awesomely terrific that it actually looks real. If our level of art were to reach that level, I would be mightily impressed about the endresult, and I believe so would others. So I would say, 2D background if that's what you're good at.

beebo44, go right ahead! Just concept whatever you feel like; we'll need a lot of art before we can actually get moddeling.

Alright, that were all the questions! I'm very happy about enthousiasm around here, it's a lot better than I could ever have expected. Now, let's get brainstorming on the name. The only thing I can think of is that if we get the game rules together, it might be easier to think of a name. Seriously though, the name isn't the most important thing until it goes 'live'.
So, rules of the game!
I was thinking it shouldn't be too much like Brawl, so probably not with the damage taken effecting the distance you are thrown by an attack. Maybe we should do something like that, but it just doesn't feel authentic (probably because it isn't). It shouldn't be too much like Tekken or Street Fighter either, and maybe it shouldn't be a purely fighting game at all... I'll try to get it started.
What if the players can win by reducing the opponent's healthbar to zero, or by flinging them off-screen?

Nice work, ikke! We'll see how much work we can get done on him; after all, once we've created the rules, we may well need a varied arsenal of attacks (which I believe is already the case).

PS
Spanex, I forgot to mention this in my other post, but your Buccaneer is the bomb!
