Shrooblord wrote:Spanex, of course you can be the envioronment designer! Could I ask you to then also be the stage designer, since this is highly coincidal with the background? I could also help you, naturally. I'm quite creative myself, if I am allowed to be arrogant for just one second.
Now, about your question regarding 3D/flat backgrounds, I think it would be nice if we have realistic 2D backgrounds. I don't know if anyone here plays Halo, or has at least seen the backgrounds in it. You can clearly see there that the backgrounds were drawn, though it looks so awesomely terrific that it actually looks real. If our level of art were to reach that level, I would be mightily impressed about the endresult, and I believe so would others. So I would say, 2D background if that's what you're good at.
Since the last year I've been very busy making realistic yet artsy backgrounds (even made a tutorial about painting in photoshop on devART) so, 2D backgrounds? Sure!! The buccaneer I've been working on can be part of a background of a battleship or mountain stage. Obviously it should also be a stage, itself! I don't mind if there's no plot. I just needed a reason to make the buccaneer more epic than it was.

But like I said I can't model, so the modelers will have to flesh out the stages for me.

Coen is cool :)
I'm done on Lunete, and now I may try doing art of a Teensy and maybe give it various skins/costumes. I'll upload them a few days later because I'm a bit sick :(

Looking forward to seeing it.

How about Lac Mac in the game? He could perform a 'kangaroo kick', using his ears for support instead of a tail.

Yep, Lac Mac is fine! I have updated the character list. Also, note the words about 'adoption' above the Cast list.
Well, since this is a community game, any member of the community may contribute as they wish. I wonder if Shrooblord should join in... However, we will need some form of organisation and at a certain point, character creation must stop; we can't have 70 characters to play when we haven't even got the game mechanics working. So, any ideas on rules of the game? We can take our time on that matter - it's going to be an important factor of the game, so it should be thought through.

And the best of health, Rulez!

Of course. We can't have too many characters in the game. About 20 is enough, I think.

Kill me for my opinion, but I think it's not a good idea to add fan characters or OC's in this game. If one person has their character in the game, everyone else will want to add theirs too. And eventually, there will be the risk that we have more characters than we want and may end up scrapping some of them, ending up with disappointed or angry people. I don't want that to happen.

Including fan characters is a crazy idea. It would make the game completely inaccessible to practically everyone who is not a Pirate-Community member, and would be unfair and irritating to those members who were not included. Why waste time egotistically inserting in-joke versions of ourselves when we can include more characters from the actual Rayman series instead?

Alright, strong points. That's it then. Sorry folks, OC's only! However, if we ever get that DIY kit up I discussed earlier, we can add all the characters we wish. I think it's true adding non-OC's would result in problems. Don't worry, you can still star in other things!

Let's say, 10 goodies, 10 baddies?

Maybe 5 unlockables?

Could be a right number, at least to begin with. We'll have to make a selection of characters though. Maybe more official characters can join in in the form of skins for already available characters. For example, Murfy, Moskito, Bzzzit and Flips could all share a skin.
Maybe we should only have very few characters to begin with, and the rest needs to be unlocked?

The term ‘original character’ or ‘OC’ is usually used to refer to a character who was created by a fan, not a character who ‘originally’ appeared in the games, so you might want to specify what kind of ‘original’ you mean in order to avoid confusion.

I always call official characters 'canonical characters' or just official characters, like they are.

to me original characters are characters made up by people, completely irrelevant to any fanbase.

Like Jake, my own OC. He DOES share some resemblance to some other officials, but he's not related.

Anyway, more unlockables than unlocked-by-start's, Now that's a good idea! Will keep the people playing for their favorite characters. I love it.

I'm currently working out the lineart for our ship. Then I can later put it in a few scene backgrounds. If there's anybody who wants to model it for any reason, tell me. Then I'll make a front and back view of the ship as well.

According to RayWiki’s statistics tracker thing, the twenty most popular Rayman characters are:

1) Rayman
2) Ly the Fairy
3) Globox
4) Admiral Razorbeard
5) Robo-Pirate
6) Hoodlum
7) Betilla the Fairy
8) Mr Dark
9) Teensie
10) Jano
11) Henchman 800
12) Bad Rayman
13) Baby Globox
14) Spyglass Pirate
15) Murfy
16) Polokus
17) André
18) Count Razoff
19) Clark
20) Uglette

The sunglasses are, of course, deliberate.

Sounds like my kind of list.

Perhaps we should replace some of the weaker characters (I'm talking baby Globox and cowardly André) with more able bodied characters.

I think most people who like the Henchmen or the Hoodmongers (for example) are likely to search for the more familiar names ‘Robo-Pirate’ or ‘Hoodlum’, which is why those articles have so many views. They’re not really characters, but categories in their own right.

Most popular Robo-Pirates:

1) Admiral Razorbeard
2) Henchman 800
3) Spyglass Pirate
4) Ninjaws
5) Henchman 1000

Most popular Hoodlums:

1) Hoodmonger
2) Master Kaag
3) Hoodboom
4) Grim Keeper
5) Scaleman

The Robo-Pirate articles in general have far more views than the Hoodlum ones. Maybe the character line-up should reflect this?

Edit:
Spanex wrote:Perhaps we should replace some of the weaker characters (I'm talking baby Globox and cowardly André) with more able bodied characters.
I guess two or three baby Globoxes could team up to create one playable character, like the Teensies in Rayman M. And maybe André’s Hoodmonger form could be included some way? Perhaps he could be given some sort of modified Hoodlum suit through which he is still visible?

How’s ‘Rayman Showdown’ for a title? Short and to the point – it tells the prospective player everything they need to know.
