It seems it will take a little longer - though I already expected this - I had to first learn how to use the program after all; but now it seems there's some sort of graphical glitch in it. I'll post on the program's forum to try and get my problem solved once my account gets activated, a process I will have to wait for.

Hehe, you thought I'd actually have it done tomorrow? Even if that were true, it'd be a very ugly and underdevelopped version.

Nah I didn't.
But I didn't include your problem in my calculations o.0

What program are you using?

Remember that taunting video I posted in your RotD thread about the UDK Engine? I thought I'd try it out since CryEngine isn't quite friendly to me, so to speak. And already I'm liking the Engine quite a bit. We'll see if it's the thing to go with or if we have to change our plans, right? No use speculating anymore now - I've been trying to get people to do that the past few months but no real results came forwards (except for some marvellous contributions from several people already - great work).

PS
I am angry at Game Mania.

The Engine is fully operational and I'm starting to learn the ropes of the trade. Just thought you guys would like to see what I'm up to. There's not a lot to see here really, but since it's my first level in a 3D creation program ever, I thought I'd drop in a shot.

I'm going to be following a good set of tutorials tomorrow and then hopefully I'll be able to make a lot more progress, besides the overall geometry sculpting such as I have already been doing. By the way, it looks blocky because I didn't smooth it - something I will do once I'm content about the overall shape.

You can expect a string of unreasonably biased insults coming from me soon. Just you wait!

But good job, I await to see how this will turn out.

You mean about CryEngine? Mainly the fact that it doesn't run well on my PC. :P
No, but I disliked the UI, the interface and the controls immediately. Then I played a bit with the landscape editing and it was altogether a stressful or at the least annoying trial run. I didn't like one bit of it, whereas Unreal Engine seemed natural, easy and clean to me - and with the help of some very useful tutorials I got going pretty quickly. I guess the way it comes packaged with a few Demo games to show off what it's capable of was a plus too. Basicly I guess Unreal was a step ahead in their development of technology too. One rather big downside though is that the online documentation is not at all helpful. Look out for the community and tutorials instead, that gets you what you want a lot easier and a lot faster.

And thanks, Rayfan, I will look forward to your hostility! :mryellow:

Heheh, with me it was the exact opposite. I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out how Unreal's primitive technojelly worked, it felt like I was trying to dissect an amoeba with my two thumbs.

Raybrawl + UE = 1
Revenge of the Dark + CE = 1

UE 1 CE 1

Herp.

Really? That's surprising. Especially the landscape editing in CryEngine disappointed me. That brush tool is non-responsive for me, or at least not as responsive as I'd like it to be, and the thing with the heightmap from top-down perspective isn't really useful, in my opinion. I mean, it's good for a quick painting, but it doesn't do the job when you want to precisely sculpt something.

Anyway, let's put this aside - this is not the thread for this discussion. And for those interested, I am currently engaged in making a nice water texture. This is because in the process I learn more about textures, on top of getting a nice result for the game in the end.

I'm all ears! Never quite learned anything about textures.

Yes, Rulez deserves them - he wants them so badly, his oppinion went in the other direction.

N-e-wax, I'm not going to describe any stuff I learnt in the tutorials because you could basicly just follow the tutorial to gain the same knowledge... just follow 'em through completely and make sure you understand what you're doing and that you're not blindly copying an example - although that seems to get you somewhere, since you then have your texture, you don't actually learn a lot about what you just did and you basicly have to go back to your own example every time to check out what it was you did again.
Right, here's the tuts: http://www.hourences.com/tutorials/
Have fun!

PS
I do not encourage random Ting competitions on my thread, unless I'm the one who made them or asked for them - this is a thread about that game we're making after all, not about a Ting contest.
