A Knaaren should be added at the least. Think of the possibilities!
Not Reflux though. He's dead as a doornail.
Edit:
spiraldoor wrote:I guess two or three baby Globoxes could team up to create one playable character, like the Teensies in Rayman M. And maybe André’s Hoodmonger form could be included some way? Perhaps he could be given some sort of modified Hoodlum suit through which he is still visible?
Like here?
You don't see it very well, but the big guy is actually a puppet controlled by a little midget sitting in the back.

Does the character’s canonical status really matter? I thought this game was going to be set outside of continuity, just like Rayman M. It would be extremely difficult to make this sort of thing logical and coherent with the entire series, and all that effort will be wasted as soon as official material contradicts us (which is inevitable at some point). If we decide that canon-compliance is a priority, we could take the fact that Reflux was essentially merged with a god at the time of his death and run with it. If you think that sounds outlandish, look at Hoodlums’ Revenge, in which a segment of André’s soul, preserved in Globox’s body, takes control and converts Globox into a plum-juice-powered Reflux clone.

Okay, no continuity. I'd still prefer a normal Knaaren over Reflux. Maybe even Gumsi. He never really had a role in the the game. He can smack people with his staff. Oh, I do know what happened in the Hoodlum's Revenge game. I played it in a weekend's time..
P.S. Spiral, did you look at my example?

I think André should be more integrated into his costume, but in such a way that his personality still comes through. Imagine if
this Hoodmonger’s hood (the light-brown part of the upper costume) was gone, and replaced by a shadowy indistinct face like that of
Mr Dark. The shadows mean that we wouldn’t need to show exactly how André was incorporated into the Hoodmonger suit (it would be hard to make that look good, considering his arms and everything), but we would still be able to see his eyes, mouth and facial expressions – his character would be intact.

Somebody should make some different concepts from where we can decide.
< Too busy! Environment is much worky work!

This is the general idea:

I lol'd.
Alright, this looks okay. If Shroob will take him up in the list, we'll find somebody to flesh him out. If not I can always take him up. Nothing wrong in making some character concepts next to environments. Just sketches. I'll leave the modeling and posing to the rest.
As for your question Spiral...
NOPE. < w >

He doesn't talk like that, but I'd replay the game if he did.

Alright, how about this for a list, with characters in a random order (the one in which I came up with them):
Good
1.Rayman
2.Ly
3.Teensie
4.Globox
5.Betilla
6.Polokus
7.Murfy
8.Clark
9.Lac Mac
10.Ed?
Bad
11.Admiral Razorbeard
12.Reflux
13.Henchman 800
14.Jano
15.Lunette (Spyglass Pirate)
16.Count Razoff
17.Hoodmonger; André form
18.Mr. Dark
19.Livingstone?
20.Bad Rayman (noted as a separate character as opposed to a skin for Rayman since he would have a completely different set of attacks)
As proposed earlier, other characters such as the Ninja Henchman/Ninjaws or Flips and Bzzzit may be incorporated using skins (which may also be unlocked?).
I think Master Kaag is a bit too much as a normal character, but maybe he can be a stage-specific baddie, like the Buccaneer could be. You know, scenic objects that may affect gameplay according to whether a character is close to them, or as set by timed events. For example, a Warship and the Buccaneer could fire random assaults at the players, whereas Master Kaag would be stomping around on his own until a player comes too close, at which point he'll try to flatten them.
And I thought Reflux would do as a good bad character, since you can tone him down in the sense that he could only attack using his staff as melee weapon and cast basic spells with short range, or you could completely overpower him in the sense that he could control all forms of magic possibly imaginable, much like in R3. Plus, he's a bad guy that's iconic, either for being loved or hated, but at least fun to battle against. He looks like a classic 'ring-fighter' (i.e. boxing ring).
Also, there could be 'additional characters', which would not be playable, but would make an appearance nontheless. Such characters could be any of the official characters we didn't want to include as playable ones, or giant characters not fit for playable ones such as the Grolgoth, Foutch, etc. But I think first we should get the main thing together.

Razorbeard redesigned his Lunette since the old one is still running around somewhere on boiling lava.
spiral, your André Hoodmonger is really nice. If you'd like to be noted as a concept artist, I could put your name on the list. Or would you like to be in the Concept Theorists category? Of course anyone can be in multiple categories.

You realize that Spiral's image was a copy-pasta one-on-top-of-the-other Photoshop-o-rama blitz right?

he was probably joking. Though maybe he wasn't.

Sorry ikke, but it's better this way.
Scenic baddies huh? I like the idea. I think I remember something like this from an official brawl game. Where a red (big momma like) monster in a pool of lava would pop out in the back and smash the battllefield so that it would spin around.
Spiraldoor never jokes, ever.

True, but it looked quite good at first glance. When I looked again I noticed the places where it could be easily seen where it was copy-pasted, but the picture quite accurately displays what spiral meant. It's a good idea.
Yeah, sorry, ikke; but spiral and Spanex are right. Too many characters would cause chaos. Maybe we can incorporate Aardappel somewhere else in the game - let's keep him in mind.
By the way, I purposefully marked characters I wasn't sure about with question marks. Should
10.Ed?
19.Livingstone?
be included or replaced by another (better) character? On that note, what do you guys think of the list of characters?

Ed would be a nice skin, while Lividstones are great.

Ed? Ed...ed.. OH! THAT guy! He'd be a cool unlockable!
Lividstone? Hm, I imagined something else from that, until I wiki'd it. You know those REAL living stones from bubble#6?

On the topic of whether the game should be 3D or 2D, I think a side-scroller (2-D) would be better. There have been many-a-failed 3-D beat 'em ups.
Hey! I have a (terrible idea for the name of the game! Raymania: Glade Wars. or, Raymania: Battle For the Glade Of Dreams.
Also, I think the list should be longer and include more characters from R1. How about the Magician? Joe? Moskito? Space Mama? Mr Skops? And others too. Maybe you could have the the teensy doctors as unlockable costumes for the regular teensies. I have a lot of ideas. But isn't Ed from Tonic Trouble? He isn't related to the Rayman world. It would be fun to have him but truthfully, it wouldn't make that much sense. he isn't from the glade of dreams. Oh but another idea! We could have unlockable in-game versions of the creators/programmers/modellers/concept artists who made the game. it'd be a nice treat to be able to play your own character.
Well? Any good ideas there? I'm gonna get started on some Concept Art.

Anyone know Google Sketchup is valid for graphics modeling? Probably not because it's too easy and a free program.
