Rayman 3 running way too fast on my PC

I'm using the GOG version of the game on a Windows 10 PC with the Rayman Control Panel and the Better R3 and HD Textures set up. However, the gameplay and menus are running extremely fast, I'd wager much more than double speed, and the game is basically unplayable due to this.

My guess is that maybe the game is trying to sync to my monitor's really high refresh rate, but I don't know how to go about trying to lock it to 60hz internally. Any advice? I'm using an Nvidia graphics card if that helps.

You need to manually set your refresh rate to 60Hz in Windows before launching the game. It's a bit of a pain having to switch back and forth each time you want to play, but unfortunately that's the easiest solution. I had the same issue myself trying to play with a 144Hz monitor, where the menus were way too fast. Gameplay itself wasn't too fast in my case though, but there was frameskipping since that was going 60fps while my monitor was running at 144Hz.

EDIT: If you tried this already, then it just means vsync is forced off for some reason, which is odd. You'd have to manually force the game itself to 60Hz in this case, but the method depends on whether you have an Nvidia or AMD GPU etc.

That worked, thanks so much. It is a little annoying that I have to do that manual switch from now on, but I'm happy to finally have the best-looking version of the game working for me now, and maybe this solution can also apply to other older games on my PC in the future.

Nice, I'm glad it works for you! :D

It's a little tedious having to do this each time yeah, I even have the same issues on Linux with some older games. Sometimes even if you have G-sync/freesync, it still either won't automatically switch to 60Hz, or some monitors simply (and oddly) don't have 60Hz within their sync tolerance range. Either way, it's nice that you can play the game now.

Whoa, I never thought about the possibility of such compatibility issues between old games expecting 60Hz and new 120Hz+ monitors. I wonder which other games are affected.

I've never really seen much in other games aside from the refresh rate not syncing, but I'm sure there are definitely other titles. In Rayman 3, I only had the menus animate way too fast, or other issues such as the black bars staying on screen, or else the physics being so messed up that Rayman can't jump as high etc.
