So why is Globox always used in RL runs?

He jumps higher and has a greater attack range, which results in a lot of small time saves across the game. As far as I know, it's not worth losing the 11 seconds it takes to select him in the heroes gallery for the shorter "100 Teensies" route, but it's definitely the case for a full-game speedrun. Here's a video that goes over a few examples:

Pretty cool, but what is the idea behind 100 Teensies?

It's just that it makes for a much shorter run, really. Quite the opposite of "5 Diamond Cups".

I know they're easy to some people, but to me reaching the final level of awesomeness would have required so much grinding that I never even attempted it, and from what I've seen it also felt way too much for the vast majority of players.

Also, he started with 100 Teensies, which makes a lot of sense given what Hunch said about it being a thing... because it's shorter.
