Okay, we all know that Rayman Origins at the time of its announcement was a game with episodic release set BEFORE Rayman 1.
We finally learned that the game was a sequel to Rayman 3, not a direct sequel of course, but a game set after the events of Rayman 3.

Well, I remember that we had some statements from the developers about that. Is that possible?

I do believe that Rayman Origins goes after 3 even if it is not a direct sequel, but from the trailers they confused us a lot about this
Like that which was originally a prequel but in the end it was changed, but leaving things like the well-known trailer where they show us that Betilla (and her sisters if we mention them) created Rayman

There's a bit of confusion about this... The "Origins" in the title is because they returned to the original aesthetics (2D game, colourful worlds...), not because it's a prequel. In fact, iirc, Michel Ancel confirmed the game was initially planned to be a prequel, but they discarded the idea and it became a sequel.

It could also be considered a sort of soft reboot, which would explain the inconsistency with the trilogy (like the Rayman cinematic on PSVita)
