Wow, there's not a lot of love for Rayman on the Game Boy Color. The Rayman Wiki has the most information about it no question, but I think it's time to give the game its time to shine! Bite-Sized is a new series on my channel where I take a short look at a short game. Releasing quite late, there are a number of differences between Rayman on the GBC and its home console variant. If you're a Rayman fan, or you're just in the market for a quick yet satisfying adventure, this game is worth a look.

Thanks for sharing, this is a nice presentation of the game! I would say however that there's a fair amount of love for this adaptation in the community, with people even recreating the game in a fan-made level editor made with GameMaker, or a recent drive to improve content related to the game on the wiki. Overall, I feel that people recognize that it's a really good game when you take into account the limitations of the console, and that it successfully reinvented the original game instead of simply being a watered-down version of it.

In any case, high five for driving more attention to it!

Ahhh !!! Why didn't I discover this last year ?!? This is a really good review of said Rayman GBC game! Also did you know, that Davide Soliani, the same guy who works for the Mario Rabbids games, also worked on this game as well ? Also, he also worked on Rayman M as well !

This version of Rayman 1 is the first game of the series that I played (and loved). I really like this version that I find very nice for the Game Boy Color (unlike the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 2 that I find awful).

I'm glad I could contribute to the wiki for this version of the game and I can always continue to help if needed~

I love this version so much that I'm imagining a Rayman fangame with the sprites of the Game Boy Color version, I'm setting up the controls but I don't know what to say or what I want to do ( I have the desire but not the ideas yet ) so it's still on stand-by, I'm still coding a bit to set up the physic engine and the gameplay mechanics but nothing concrete for the moment. x)

Very very good video ! Good job !

Rayman GBC is fine game, the replay post final boss in extra stages is good. infact, I don't remember a mainline Rayman game with replay stages post final boss until Rayman Origins.

The major problems with the game are the music the it's not well made, the covers of the Rayman 2 music were be made really much better, but the music at the end is has few instruments and very loud. I don't know the decision for add the world map something for the replay instead for the game in general this would be useful for the backtracking for get the cages no accessible in early game points.

Maybe the game will be the best well made handheld Rayman game, after all, it was the only handheld Rayman game that was released in virtual console in some early of the 3DS support, being of the few Game boy Color available at the time, while other Rayman game like Rayman Advance and Rayman 3 GBA were released in the end of the Wii U support.

I know that there is levels of this game recreated in redesigner, but I thought about a rom hack of this game improving the gameplay, soundtrack, graphics, and content.

Wow, this is actually a really great video about R1 GBC, thank you for sharing this!

GBC is unique compared to every other version of R1 and the only official game where we technically, can fight Mr. Dark whereas in all the other versions we're just fighting fusions of bosses. I played this game for the first time back in 2019-2020 I believe, and the game gave me a good challenge, especially near the end in Dark Legacy where I actually started struggling to not lose health or lives. The only thing that caught me off guard, was ofc the use of Rayman 2 elements in the game such as his model in the intro and the music. Although considering R2 came out just before this game, it makes much more sense to me now. Would definitely recommend people to try this game at least once! I can't say the same for the GBC version of R2, sadly....
