Rayman Pirate-Community

Hi everyone!

SpeedRay is back this year, and to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Rayman 3, which was first released for the GameCube on 21 February 2003, we are hosting a special edition that will also touch on another important aspect of the game: scoring.

The goal here is simple: complete the Land of the Livid Dead as fast as possible, but with more than 100,000 points! The run will have to follow the rules of the Any% No Major Glitches category.

As for the reward, the winner will get a $100 Amazon gift card, and there's also Tings and a special rank for the others:

• First prize: $100 Amazon gift card
• Second prize: 2500 Tings and a special rank
• Third prize: 1000 Tings
• Consolation prize: 500 Tings

How to participate

All you have to do is record your playthrough of the level and send it to us by PM. Once the contest is over, you will be allowed to post it publicly if you like, but for a change, let's give this an air of mystery and not reveal who's in the lead before the end...

Note that you may not submit older runs. The contest will run from February 21st to March 21st, and all runs must be recorded and submitted during this period. Submissions are not final, and you're more than welcome to keep posting better runs: we will only consider your best time.

Oh crap, I need to figure out how to play the game again (I still have the CDs). I assume you may need a new banner for this one?

Clarification question: does it have to be a fresh game, or are revisits allowed? I noticed some chatter on that in some of the new IL runs on the R3 speedrunning topic…

Is is because of the cage breaking animation? If yes, new game would make more sense, right?

It seems using Better Rayman is not allowed. Btw, can you submit a video without the audio and share it via Google Drive?

Is pc 1.2x speed allowed? This will mean console runners have quite a bit of a disadvantage. In that case, Better Rayman 3 would force everyone to play at the same speed. Aside from that, I don't think there are any big differences in the Land of the Livid Dead that give a certain version an advantage.

I'm so giving this a try! I have starting reading this scoring tutorial for the level, it should come in handy.

Yes, but you can of course restart the section if you miss a combo.

You're right, 1.2x should not be allowed. Could it cause any other problems if we allowed Better Rayman 3 in order to fix this?

Not 100% sure. In the past we've done a casual no major glitches blind race for everyone who hasn't speedran the game before, BR3 was allowed in that case since it basically makes the game behave more like the other versions.

So unless the scoring is completely different on BR3, I don't think it could cause any problems.

I did hear someone mention the HD version having an extra gem or something, but if that's the case I think it's a very minor difference.

Loading times might be slightly different, but for this contest, it shouldn't matter much, so you're welcome to submit such a run if you like.

Maybe this information will be useless for most of the people, but I'd like to share this just in case there are some other people who may try this running Rayman 3 in the PCSX2. As there is an animation when you break the cages, it was said to make this challenge in a fresh game. In order to restart the level whenever you want, the most logical thing someone would do is to create a savestate just before the level even starts, but you have to keep in mind something... Remember to auto-eject the memory card when loading save states! If you don't do it and you load that savestate to try again, the Memory Card will crash because it's constantly auto-saving the game as long as you're getting through the different sections and it doesn't find logical to load a previous point, so you'll have to start another game to reach that point of the game again over and over.

How do I know this? Well, yesterday I was playing a new game to get the savestate ready for the next week, in which I will try this challenge... I was making sure everything was fine... And no, not everything was fine . Tbh, I don't think I've wasted 1h30min of my life, it's always great to play this game.

It may be too late for this but, could we have consolation prices for the 2nd and 3rd places?

Thanks for sharing, DaveRattlehead! As I already mentioned by PM, it's fine for us to deduct the cage breaking animation from your time if you're not able to use RaySaves and are forced to replay the game from the beginning all the time.

As for the additional prizes, great idea Elite, I'll add them to the first post right now.
