Any love for classic Mortal Kombat games?

Talking mostly about Mortal Kombat 1-4, Arcade, PC and home console versions. And possibly the movies released in the 90s, which were roughly based on these early games.

I've been a fan since the pretty much the beginning and even though never got anywhere close to being competitively good, always enjoyed playing against the CPU, learning the lore, etc.

The original Mortal Kombat celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. It's older than Rayman. With all the re-releases on Games for Windows Live (Oh God), GOG, Steam, 1-Up Arcade machines, various retro console collections, and of course, good old emulation - the classics seem to be experiencing a minor renaissance.

I would love to be able to talk and exchange experiences with other fans, maybe even get a trivia game going, similar to TTQ/Riddles of the Glade. While there are plenty of MK forums around, but they seem very focused on the recent games, and the subforums dedicated to the classics range from very slow (a couple of topics a month) to almost dead (last post from a couple of years back).

And I don't want Discord, Reddit, Facebook, or any other centralized and centrally-governed media.

So, is there a fanbase lurking here, or is it too far off the mark?

This is going to be a disappointing reply in that I have never played any of the games, but they're iconic enough that even I know some of the finishing moves from the series.

Which one is your favorite game, by the way?

Yeah, the full month of nothing but crickets in the air made me realize that the target audience will not be found on RPC. :oops2:

I guess MK2 is my favorite of the classic ones. It has the right combination of gore, complexity and consistent visual quality. MK3 got a little too goofy at times, and the AI is ridiculously cheesy in the sense it is not even fun to beat.

If you include the new ones, then I'd have to pick MK9. At least in the sense that if I had to pick only one MK game to play, that would be my choice. It combines all the classic characters, and most of the moves of MK1-2-3, with modern graphics and lots of gameplay options.
