:D :D Hey guys! You all know this site has its own kind of emoticons called “smilies” some are very useful, but some have practically no reason to exist, so, why don’t we discuss which one is most useless of them all?

Please note this game is just a bit of fun and all the smilies on this site are great and I don’t aim to get any removed

This used to be a favourite of mine, but come to think of it it's pretty useless and perhaps mildly racist, so my vote goes here

Oh yes, I remember that being your favourite! Interesting how you've done an about-face on that!

Anyway, I don't think any of them are useless. The more smilies you have, the more contours of emotion you can express! :hap: If anything we need more, since I don't think we have an adequate equivalent for the "worried", "thinking" or "doh" emojis :mefiant:

Well despite its issues I'm still kind of fond of it :chinois: I think its meaninglessness is what drew me to it in the first place

I can't imagine what emotion or meaning this one conveys though, and why it doesn't have any other directional counterparts:

And what about this one? :cookie:

Btw, it's kinda curious the most famous forum in Spain has the fou as a symbol :fou:

Tbh I've never really understood the point of :!: or :?: when there are two nearly identical characters on most keyboards that convey the exact same message, and several other smilies like  and :confus: that convey similar emotions.

I guess it was added after the classic smilies(?)

My guess is that it was added to indicate lists and/or help with the Mot à mot :hap: Though now that I think of it, I think people use it as a substitute for forms of the verb sortir – as in, they're following the arrow to the exit!

That's me demonstrating the use of this very useful smiley

So that post can be interpreted in multiple ways? Some saying that :boon: is useless, others saying that something someone has said was useless actually isn't and they were a boon for thinking it is? :hap:

I actually just pulled out the :boon: to get a rise out of someone -- because :boon: is actually one of my favourite smilies from anywhere, ever

Wow thanks guys I really didn’t expect this place to blow up! Mines definitely the :!: :?: ones because you can just as easily time a real exclamation mark or question mark

Edit: oops just saw lumgum wrote the same thing

I think those exclamation and question mark ones are there for comical over-emphasis :hap: Maybe I should add upside-down versions of them…
