If you were in charge of the rayman franchise...

If you were in charge of the rayman franchise what would you do?

what kind of game would you make? and what direction would you take the series in?
what kind of places, characters and ideas would you like to convey?

all of your ideas are valid, go nuts! :fou2:

So if I were to be in charge of the franchise, I would probably want a reboot of the first three, but with more cohesion. Keep Mr. Dark as the first villain, keep Razorbeard, etc, etc. I don't want the first game to feel disjointed and obsolete, I just kind of want them mended in a sense. I want the scrapped content for all games back in, and I want more character development as a whole.

It would have to go back to its roots of being story-based with a nature focus, but surrealism sprinkled in, and I wouldn't want them to shy away from dark undertones like they weren't afraid to do with Rayman 2. I would prefer them all to be 3D as well.

But on the other hand, it would be nice to experience new stories. Ones with stakes and a return of characters like Ly and Andre. Perhaps more lines of all the characters interacting, as that's my personal interest with the Rayman series. I always felt like the story was key to its success in the first place.

I'll copy-paste what I wrote in another topic.

First of all, I would go back to 3D games. Yes, UbiArt's style is beautiful, I'm not denying that, but I think a return to 3D would increase the hype for many, many people.

I would like the game to be an open world in the Glade of the Dreams. I don't mean an open world like Rayman Revolution, which could be quite chaotic without a map, but a well designed open world, with the Glade of Dreams very alive and as colorful and magical as ever, with the possibility of interacting with the different characters that inhabit it, either to continue the story, to do secondary activities, and why not, some other mini-games. I think it would be interesting to see some RPG elements in this game, either modifying Rayman's clothes or improving different attributes of the character, such as sprint speed, swimming ability, helicopter duration... And even some more "curious" attributes, such as his weight . It would also be interesting to be able to alternate the ability to shoot with the ability to throw the fist, thus combining the classic Rayman attack with the attack we saw in Rayman 2. These attack modes could be incorporated somehow in the attributes to improve the character.

I also think it would be a perfect opportunity to give some coherence to Rayman's lore. After all, that's a job that Ubisoft itself should have done back in the past, right?

Now open world is genuinely interesting. Rayman has always felt like a small fish in a big pond, so being able to expand on that with vast environments would be ideal. I can imagine just wandering from the woods of light and finding the fairy council, and maybe the further in you go, the more whimsical things get, just like in your mind when you fall into REM sleep! You start to see scatterings of cream and candies among the grass and it opens to a fully 3D Candy Chateau. The entirety of the open world would need to wow the player with a consistent weirdness, though. That way they never feel like they quite step out of a dream.

They tried on Rayman Revolution, but they created something a bit weird... It wasn't a bad idea, but it was terribly executed.

Oooh, yeah. I really did love seeing them build on what was already in Rayman 2 with fun new locations, but they shot themselves in the foot by making the player have to buy basic abilities that were given at the start of the OG game. Prime example of two steps forward, one step back.

Guess they were too ambitious with it and I guess rewriting the whole source code wasn’t the best idea either it seems.

Rayman Brain Games 2, a 3d game featuring open world elements and returning areas from previous games, a sophisticated story, polished gameplay, and obscure trivia that nobody knows.

WHERE CAN I GET THIS BOSS

I’d personally release a vinyl of rayman brain games music, that stuff slaps tbh. Making rayman 4 would probably be a nice little bonus :)

Wasn't there a 3D Brain Games fangame being made by some folks from the leaked Rayman 2 engine?

Ah yes found it, behold:

Just a bit off topic... That video reminds me of many parents telling their kids how it was their way to school when they were younger

I still believe an open-world game would fit perfectly in Rayman's world. Also, regarding to the enemies... Not gonna lie, I think the pirates are the best enemies Rayman ever had and I'd love to see them back seeking revenge for the previous generation ;)
But in the other hand, I wouldn't like the series to stick to the same formula over and over again, so I wouldn't mind if new and interesting enemies appear.

It's not released yet, just a trailer that doubled as an April Fools' prank! :P I presume it's still being worked on, but AFAIK everyone involved in it is also involved in several other projects, so we'll need to be patient! ;)

The original video was uploaded on April 1st, claiming to be a long-lost trailer for a cancelled game from 2000 (complete with "degraded VHS" filters). Then the next day they uploaded the real trailer and a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff :hap:

Ah, I forgot this existed! I stated this back then, but I am genuinely curious to try this game once it releases. Even though I was already a teen when I tried Brain Games/Junior for the first time, I had a good time playing.

We probably won't finish it unfortunately, we're all busy with other projects. But it was insanely fun to work on this for April Fools, and I might try and finish my Picture City level eventually :mryellow:
