The clouds have become especially moody, we've never seen this nightmare before! Strange metal objects have been falling from the sky! A fakir was crushed just days ago!
The ways of the dreamer have revealed themselves! You may seek out the missing royalty now... The royals may fallen into the abysal depths of the troubled Dreamer! The fakirs worship them blindly! They welcome the end of magic and chant myopic mantras for a new world of reason and order! We have to get up there, but the Dreamer's Door is shut tight... We must find the members of the royal house of each land of the Glade of Dreams. Only they know the secret songs to opening them! Some dark force has captured them and we haven't seen them since. They haven't raided my fridges for weeks! Not even a single call for room service; that's not like the festive royals! Finally, we can return to the Dreamer's Door and attain the Moody Clouds... At last, we will discover the origins of the strange mechanisms that fall from the sky! We must delve into the depths of the dream, there where our Maker's moods reveal themselves...
It’s pretty clear from these quotations that the Moody Clouds is supposed to be a recent phenomenon, and the purpose of Rayman’s journey there is to find out why it happened and what’s going on. The only thing close to a revelation in this regard is The Reveal. We know the Magician built the mechas, so it’s pretty safe to assume that he built the Moody Clouds itself – who else could have? His wall has a diagram showing Lums being fed into a machine – throughout the Moodly Clouds, we see plenty of Lums trapped in bulbs which are connected to machinery or simply feeding into metal walls. What I’m getting at is the game’s implication that the Magician’s designs permeate the whole city.
I really hate the idea that there are two characters called ‘the Magician’ who take Rayman’s collectibles, wear the same clothes, have the same voice and never appear at the same time. We wouldn’t even be discussing this if they’d left his damn hair blonde.

But they are two different species, Spiraldoor...
I can certainly see why you'd think they are both the same character, but I personally still see them as two different characters.

So? Plenty of characters who were members of Rayman’s species in the original game are members of different species in Rayman Origins.

I see what you mean there with the limbless characters and all, but the only characters from Rayman who I considered to be the same species as Rayman were Tarayzan, the Magician and the Musician and his family. (And Andrew but his canon-ness is questionable).
*Shrug* It was sort of easy to handle the changes from Rayman 1 to Rayman Origins with most of the characters, but the Magician just seemed to change too much in my opinion.

Yep, that all makes good sense. Are these quotes from that script again? I never saw these texts in-game.

I can see how you can think this. Do they have the same voice though? The Rayman 1 Magician's voice sounds a lot different from the Origins one to me. Maybe I have a different version of R1's Magician in mind - the different versions of the game have been voiced by different people, right?
In any case, the 'Ten Tings please.' message sounds distinctly different from the 'This way is wayy beteray from dismay' ("This is is way better than the movies!" -
Best Original Score) message. Besides, my 'two Magicians' plot was just a suggestion - I don't know if I believe it myself yet.

Yes, those quotations are from the script. We know that Douglas Rand (who is the only male voice actor in Rayman Origins) was also one of the three male voice actors in Rayman 1, so it’s quite possible that he voiced the Magician in that game as well. I’m not sure if the various Magician voices were actually performed by different actors – they sound different, but not so drastically different that they could not be the same actor re-recording his lines for a different market. The credits are the same in all versions.
If it helps, there is some suggestion that there’s a canonical explanation for the species change undergone by most R1 characters. When Rayman pulls the Bubble Dreamer’s beard, this is one of his responses:
Hey Rayman! Welcome Back! Was I Having a bad dream again?
Still no limbs, eh?! Well, the nymphs will get their act together eventually...! Less bones to break I say!
At least they remembered the funny bone!
Laugh till it hurts!

The thing you say about the actor is something new to me. I believe it then to indeed be possible that he was the same character. Still, the voice actor doesn't immediately rule out what I said earlier - I'm sure I've never heard Rayman 2 Lums sing before yet they are definately the same character.

And do you mean by this that the species change was a faulty mistake made by the nymphs? Or that if the Bubble Dreamer doesn't dream, Rayman does not exist (which makes sense because Polokus dreams the world to reality) and therefore, that every time he comes back to life, he must be recreated by the nymphs, which may have caused inconsistencies with the other characters (since dreams are strange like that)?
...
I don't know how I suddenly drew that line of thought either.
What I mean to ask is, what do 'welcome back' and '
still no limbs' imply?

BD says that every time you pull his beard, so I'm assuming he's welcoming Rayman back from one of his recent "explorations"
Perhaps BD expect's that the nymphs will eventually "get their act together" and give Rayman his limbs which he "still" lacks.

I hope they never do it, or else I'll somehow call more Zombie Chickens.
When I think that during Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc's development, the team wanted to give limbs back to Rayman...

My point is that the Bubble Dreamer seems to be hinting that it’s possible for a limbless character to gain limbs. Maybe that’s what happened to Betilla, the Magician, the Livingstones and the Hunters – and what didn’t happen to Rayman, Bad Rayman and the stone men.

They considered it but quickly decided that it wasn’t a good idea. Let me see if I can find the interview.

Wow, I can't believe that even came into their minds. Rayman being limbless is his trademark!
Did you ever find the interview?

If I remind well it was in the old Raymanzone website, but to access it I fear you'll have to use the Wayback Machine.
EDIT: Rayman-Fanpage seems to have saved the interview.
It must be somewhere in the sections of the interview:
http://www.rayman-fanpage.de/rayman3_ne ... iews_e.htm
EDIT 2: Aha! Found it! Check Part II:

A lot of stuff come into people's minds. Many developers of good games told in reviews 99% of ideas are eventually discarded, of which huge majority - in one hour.
