For me, the basketball scene was a great length. I was actually relieved to see such a detailed animation that lasted for more than a few seconds.

Some good news: I've made my way back into that rhythm of things where I'm animating as a habit, so my work is picking up a lot of speed.
I won't be showing a lot of spoilers though, and I have nothing I want to show yet, so just bear with me.

I've been meaning to respond to this for days, but have never got around to doing it - so sorry for the belated response, but thanks for the feedback! I'm actually pleasantly surprised that none of the suggested improvements involve the animation on the short itself, which is a big relief :). As for extending the ending, I have to disagree with this one personally. I think that the ending is actually creepier cutting off where it does, with it left with the viewer never knowing if they do get to leave, and the rest being left to their own imagination. Also, I think that extending it any further then it already is would be dragging out the joke, which is something I don't like. But, hey, I guess this is just our different humour styles showing :P.

I take it you're referring to the sound of The Musician's Child recorded by Rulez. There is actually a large reason why it sounds so poor in sound quality compared to the others. Rayfan (Rayman and The Magician) actually has a proper studio microphone (yes I'm jealous) making their sounds automatically super-high quality in comparison to anything done with an average home mic, and my microphone (for the Electoon voice) has never had an unfortunate encounter with a bowl of soup, which is what happened to Rulez' microphone shortly before he went to record the voice - so naturally, yes it is poorer quality then the other sounds. However, I may be able to further (It's been altered already) improve the quality of the clip using sound editing software, because I do notice that the quality difference is kind of odd when being viewed as an exported SWF (it sounds a little better when being viewed raw in Flash). I might also up the whole sound quality of the SWF as well, although I don't want to make it too high quality, as the file size will be too large, and also there wouldn't be much point as all the sounds are in mono.

I should be able to get back to you with this change in the near future. Again, thanks for responding (and I hope my animation makes the final cut ;))

For audio, always make sure to have the quality at least at 22050 kbs, no matter if it's mono or stereo. Anything less isn't so pleasurable to the ear. Truthfully, it shouldn't really be lower than 44100, unless you're trying to make the file a bit smaller (although SWF files really are quite tiny in the first place).

And a soup encounter? Get a tripod! It's a very worth-it $30 that comes out of your wallet.

Also when exporting the flash, I like to have the audio at 64 kbps (if using MP3 compression). I've tested different levels and thats the lowest I've found without noticable quality loss.

Heh, that depends who's listening. An experienced audio technician can instantly tell the difference between 296 and 320 kbs (MP3). However the standard viewer wouldn't be able to notice, and that's usually who we're targeting.

Image DUN DUN DUUUN!

But in all seriousness, I've improved the sound quality, and now the whole animation sounds so much better. The quality is so good it's pleasant on my ears :). Unfortunately, there is still a noticeable loss in quality when it comes to The Musician's Child. Next step, sound editing software. Don't worry, this will all get to something eventually :mryellow:

and now I really feel like soup

Remember, you can't always rely on sound editing software. It does help, but not forever.

My brother has actually done professional work involving cleaning up sounds in Audacity, and they were in far worse quality then Rule's clip is, so I'm sure we'll both work out something together :)

This is true. I'm also taking into account Newgrounds' 10 MB flash limit. So that's why I have it so low

Of course. But if you were to receive a 16 kbs MP3 recording with lots of pink noise, there's nothing you can do to make it sound good. Luckily, there isn't a chance Rulez's would be that low quality. You would have to use a cellphone in a tunnel to get something like that. It was a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.

Pink noise is white noise, but the volume of the noise is equal in every octave, thus making it bring forth more bass frequencies.

White noise is the "hissing" sound you hear in the background of recordings sometimes, and it's also what you hear loudly when your TV or radio has no signal.
