Connie and the Essence of Chaos, a Rayman 1-inspired game by Ryemanni!

Hi everyone! You may not be aware of it, but Ryemanni, the creator of the famous fan remake Rayman Redemption, is making an original video game which takes a lot of inspiration from retro platformers such as Rayman 1 and its derivatives! Connie and the Essence of Chaos! https://www.ryemanni.com/connie.html
You can recognize many things from Rayman 1 and Redemption/ReDesigner, such as a similar world and story, Hunter-like enemies, a similar checkpoint system with a reference to a beach setup, growing plants, springs bouncing you around, unlockable powers, temporary power-ups changing your appearance and abilities similarly to laser-washing powders, and much more!

Seems like the game will feature a skin themed after Rayman's colors! (There's also one for Scoop Kick!)

I can't believe Ryemanni would feature a RPC member as a character!
Clearly by the Holiest of Plums!

Bump. Rayman Redemption 2 is out everybody, coming out the very same unbelievable day as Metroid Prime 4.
The demo for Connie has been released yesterday on Steamand Itch.io! So go get it right now so you can experience the best video game ever featuring PluMGMK as your sidekick.
It already has five complete levels, a few bosses and some extra locations for over an hour of gameplay!
I'm loving this game and all of the whimsical charm that oozes from it!
I wasn't expecting to say this, but despite all the genuine resemblances to Rayman 1 (including Ryemanni's fangames of it), in the end I'm totally glad this game chose to be its own thing rather than just another Rayman fanwork as it has so much personality and distinct controls/mechanics! Really loving the idea of the Cuisinia island world with the flavor Essences and all of the food theme!
This game really shows how much Ryemanni is improving as a game developper, and I can't wait to see the full experience, it's so much fun!
I completed the demo twice and recorded a 100% playthrough (including a bit of "bean farming" at the end to buy the last two skins and items)!
I already found all of the hidden objects and noticed some secrets, although they aren't fully implemented such as the one blocked by a reinforced crate below Connie's Boat or the -probably- planned easter egg in Crop Pot Village which are basically both the equivalent of The Lonely Cliff from Redemption in regards of both being a free area with a secret.
(So don't bother trying to get the missing items in the village as they aren't actually in the demo, as Ryemanni commented on itch.io )
-Fixed Connie's hud and death sprites not matching the outfit you're wearing
-Fixed Connie's outfit breaking if you swap it while having an essence powerup
-Fixed some tile errors
-Fixed some typos in the dialogue
-Fixed growing plants breaking if you pause the game
-Shortened the time it takes to peek up and down
-Made already acquired collectibles to still show the hud effect so it's easier to know which ones you've missed
[Warning! Spoilers for some -minor- secrets further below!]
Well, I actually managed to get to the underwater tunnel under Connie's boat using UndertaleModTool to mod out the crate (yes, this also runs under GameMaker), but what should be a secret exit obviously doesn't work yet as all the spoiler contents have been cut from the demo... and this resulted in glitching out the water, displacing it upwards
...And with this very same tool, I managed to spot a hidden detail in the first part of the only current Burgersburg level (which btw, is a world that massively reminds me of Duckburg from Donald Duck Quack Attack/Goin' Quackers GBC for most of its objects and visuals! Possible inspiration? ).
If you look under the rows of forks, you'll see the work "RYE" with some heart power-ups next to it which is an obvious nod to Ryemanni himself (and possible the hidden "RAY"s in the environments of Redemption).
There's doesn't appear to be a way to reach it in-game though, from my experience, so probably just a fun thing the dev did to fill up the empty space!
That world also sports some graffitis of a character from Scoop Kick (Ryemanni's previous official game), if you look closely!
Speaking of which, Eggplantman, a parody of Rayman, is also back from that game and still claims to be a former hero, but nobody takes him seriously and thinks he's making it all up! (Like Ubisoft talking about Rayman 3 being totally the first 3D Rayman game )

Anyhoo: yay, another thing to add to my list of "stuff I must play when I have the time and headspace to not feel guilty about playing games"

Just started playing this the other day and I love it so much! It truly feels like what the first Rayman would have been like had it been made today, even moreso than Redemption. I wonder if there's a chance that it will feature some voice-acting in the future, with the current "text grunting" kept as an alternative? I highly doubt it, but I would love to help take part if so, since I've got a pretty young-sounding voice that I think would fit Connie. If not, I might still make some sort of fan-dub for the fun of it at some point.

Just tried it out, I enjoyed it but then I gave up at the Clash of Carrots bossfight, since it's getting a bit late
Let's see when I get back to it…
