And thanks to the PSX Modding Toolchain there is now an easy way to mod the PS1 version of the game by injecting custom code! This opens up the door for so many different types of mods
A custom in-game menu replacing the pause screen.
A custom layout for the worldmap, with new level names.
Once again, I am in awe of the outstanding achievements of the modding community, never did I expect to see modding on the PS1 version of Rayman 1. This is actually rather fortuitous cause I've been avoiding Rayman 1 in my replays - I've got an attachment to the PS1 version because it's the version I grew up with, but it's also left its mark and intimidates me to go back to. But the allure of mods and potentially making it more accessible makes it a far more ideal prospect.
Needless to say - Congratulations and thank you to all of you who've accomplished this!

Thanks! And yeah, I've been thinking of making some sort of mod which makes the game more accessible to new players! Some ideas like not losing tings when dying, decreasing damage knockbacks, showing gendoors as sparkles like on GBA etc. Maybe even touch up some levels too? It'd potentially be a lot of work though, and I'm working on some other projects too, but it could also be very useful to a lot of players I feel! There is of course also Rayman Redemption as an option for players, but I count that more as a separate game as it offers a very different experience.
Edit: Oh btw! For anyone who wants to see some of these mods being played I would recommend checking out Thextera's YouTube channel. He's a speedrunner, so very familiar with the game, and he played a lot of these mods when they first got made!

Congrats to everyone who worked on this! I find those recent advancements particularly promising as they seem to pave the road for a level editor as complete and user-friendly as Rayman ReDesigner, but open-source, regularly updated by the community, open to the use of additional modules and, last but not least, perfectly mimicking the physics of the original (I'm especially thinking about the flying rings and the super helicopter). This will be no small feat, but it looks like we're on a good track.

I woke up in the middle of the night to a dream where I was inside the original rayman game and had new enemies there never seen before. (I am professional game developer so this happens a lot) Decided to check the current situation of the modding scene just to see it’s alive and doing well!
I’m moving into a phase of developing a level editor of my own (for my game) and reminisced that the original level editor was quite something. I had the rayman gold and the paper packaged one with extra levels and goodies. We made quite a few levels with my friend back in the days.
For me the pc edition was the definitive one and one could speculate the importance of modding toolchain for PS1 as we already have some of not same tools for the pc. It’s still so cool and so much more accessible through emulators compared to the trouble of setting up the (old school) pc environment.
I guess the Redemption has been rebuilt for modern pcs and I really need to check it out as today is the first time I heard about it. Great work everyone!
