May I present to you a canon rewrite fic I started on September 17th, called "Rayman's Origin". Yes, I know, I made an Origins joke. Definitely didn't do it on purpose.

I have to say, the way you're handling Mr Dark here is spot on. He sounds genuinely threatening without being over the top and it really brings back the atmosphere of the original game. It's nice to see him actually strategizing and pulling the strings rather than just being a background threat.

Can't wait to see where this goes next! Keep it up.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!! Chapter 8 is sadly still in the works as of Feb 15th due to things outside of my writing and I deeply 100% apologize for that. I wanted to make Mr. Dark more threatening than the game presents him as, but I was also worried I was doing that terribly too XD

By the way, just wanted to say that the Magician using a magic tome for speech therapy is brilliant, and Rayman asking if he could be his daddy absolutely broke my heart!

Thank you!! I figured the Magician could help Rayman in the best way possible! Also aaaaaa I actually almost cried writing that part cuz a lot of people think the Magician is related to Rayman in some way and I feel like I crushed their dreams that way :'D

haha, all good, GMK. As for how often I publish, it depends. Sometimes it takes me 1-2 weeks on a good day (sometimes 3 weeks), but as of today, Chapter 8 is still not finished (it was started on December 16th, 2025) which unfortunately life kinda was getting to me and making it harder to find motivation to write. When I do get motivation, I write more, but then it fizzles out afterwards.

To honor PluMGMK's inquiry on giving a heads-up, this IS a heads-up to anyone in this topic: As of Dec 16th, 2025 I am unfortunately unmotivated (or at best, minimally motivated), hence why Chapter 8 is still unfinished. However, this does not mean Rayman's Origin is on hiatus. I'm just gonna be a little slower with writing chapters. I usually pump them out every 1-2 weeks (sometimes 3) on a good day, but lately, life has not been treating me well to the point of chapters going to a slow down. As for when that will change and posting will resume as normal, I cannot exactly give an ETA. It also does not help that AO3 is currently down (ETA is also unknown), so maybe I'll get motivation later tonight (my time, EST) to try and get more done to the point where it'll be finished. I do apologize to my readers, however.

BUT, I am also thankful for all the hits the fic has gotten (600+ and counting!) even if Chapter 8 is not finished yet. It means so much to me that you guys like my work. Chapter 8 will hopefully be posted (though the publishing date will remain as December 16th, 2025 due to the fact it's a Christmas themed chapter) sometime this week, if not next week at the latest.

I'm glad you asked! It's actually going really well, I'm nearly done with it, so expect me to update the main post either tonight or tomorrow!

Edit 2: Released a side fic as well to help tide out the three week break I will be taking to prepare for Chapter 9!

Yay! I loved the creative world-building for the Yule Lum Festival and the fun character dynamics, especially that hilarious, bratty Dark Rayman! To polish things up, just keep an eye on consistent past/present verb tenses and maybe try to "show, don't tell" a bit more instead of having Mr Dark monologue all his motivations. Overall, it's a beautifully heartwarming holiday story about found family, and you should be super proud of it while continuing to put your real-life well-being first!

And aaaa while yes, he did monologue, he didn't reveal *everything* he plans to do, he just makes a general point that he will mess with Rayman in any way he can, but he doesn't explicitly state all of what he'll do, but I do appreciate the feedback on that. I will keep that in mind for Chapter 9 when I start! I 100% value any and all feedback, it makes me motivated to keep going.

The Yule Lum Festival was really a cool thing that a friend gave the idea for and I loved it!

I loved bringing in Ly, she was very fun to write for, and she'll be even more fun to write for once I get to Rayman 2! I will admit, writing the chapter did get me choked up cuz Rayman already had a hard time and now he's trying to believe that there are good people despite the bad.

As for Dark/Bad Rayman, I literally thought, "Okay so he's a clone of Rayman, but he definitely gives off that "bratty kid that gets what he wants" dynamic" XD He was also fun to write for and I can't wait to give him a bigger role in the Rayman 1 era of the rewrite too!

I'm actually pretty proud of myself too! I'll keep doing my best and also take more breaks from time to time!

Awesome, I can't wait to see how you'll integrate the Rayman 1 characters into the Rayman 2 world.

It's just that the games didn't even bother to do it, so you can always make up whatever you want.
