Rayman 2 Custom Levels

Hey folks,

I did a quick search and didn't see an existing thread for this somehow, so hope we're cool in that regard.

I found this video which shows how to make custom levels for Rayman 2:

I'm pretty sure I remember members of Pirate Community sharing levels they have created, probably with this method.

Now, what I'm really curious about is, how much control do we have over the logic? Obviously the sky's the limit for a genius programmer with enough time and effort, but this is an old game. And I'm not necessarily talking about impressive hacks like the first-person-view mod, either. Rather, I'm curious how difficult it is for modders to manipulate the existing logic.

For example, not just placing objects in the level, but manipulating their behaviour. Could you make a yellow lum behave like a blue lum? (Just trying to gauge what is possible). Could you program a cutscene complete with text? This would be adding nothing new. But despite being basic, I suspect it could be tricky without the source code.

If anyone has knowledge on this, would be super cool to get your insight on it. :D

Hi! :)

Yeah Rayman 2 level editing is possible using the leaked CPA editor, which also includes the engine source code. It doesn't include all the game data form Rayman 2, so there are limitations of what you can do, but in theory, since it includes the code, you could do almost anything.

Keep in mind though that currently the custom levels can only be played in the editor itself, and development on improving the community version of that has pretty much stagnated.

Thank you, Raycarrot. I recently installed RCP and I'm just blown away by it, simply astounding. If only every other platform were as good-looking and easy to use.

I knew of the CPA editor but didn't quite understand how it works. So maybe if I fiddle around and experiment I could unlock some of its potential. Thank you!

Is using the original assets (assuming you have purchased the game) a legal grayzone? It would be super cool to make levels that fit the world...

Hi RayCarrot, thank you for the follow-up message. It seems I cannot reply with your current privacy settings, so I'll just say I am absolutely interested if you could let me know where to access it.
