Something strange about the mosquito: On the PS2 version of Rayman 1 (or at least the one i have), the second time you face him as the boss, he is dark reddish color, indicating that he is a different mosquito. This makes since, because we already made friends with the first mosquito. However, almost every other version ive found of the game (GBA, PC, DSi), he isnt different colored, and is clearly the original one that we first made friends with. I dont get it. Why would the same mosquito that we got to ride, be after us again later, without any explanation?

Lots of people like to call the first Moskito from Anguish Lagoon "Bzzit" (because there was a mosquito in Rayman 2 named Bzzit), though this was never confirmed in any way. I'm under the impression that both mosquitoes you fight in Rayman 1 are the same character, only Mister Dark has taken control of him the second time you fight him. There's no other good explanation as to why his colour changes in some versions in a similar manner that is comparable to Rayman / Dark Rayman.

I've always believed there was a colouring error with the Moskito's Nest mosquito. I'm sure of that because in Atari Jaguar version, the very first Rayman version released, both in the Spiky Dry Fruit pursuit and the Moskito's Nest battle the Moskito is red-coloured. In other versions, like PS1, in the pursuit the Moskito is strangely coloured as Bzzit. It would not make sense if it was Bzzit doing the pursuit or fighting in the Moskito's Nest.

Stop calling him Bzzit.

Why is that? Do you have some theory for him not being Bzzit?

No, but he was never confirmed to be Bzzit in Rayman 1. Maybe we could find this out from Mr. Ancel.

I don't see why they can't be the same individuals. If it is just because of the design, that didn't stop Darktoons and Antitoons to be the same kind of creatures.
Rayman would befriend with many more mosquitoes with the time and forget the one of the Anguish Lagoon? Bzzit helps Rayman to reach the Lost Island in RR, and the Anguish Lagoon one helps Rayman to reach Bongo Hills (or even the Swamps of Forgetfulness). Coincidence or not, I still believe they are the same character.

Fair enough. Though I will still remain stubborn in my decision.

I don’t like the name ‘Bzzit’ either, and I’m still not sure how I feel about the idea that there are two mosquitoes in Rayman 1, but I’m pretty certain that the Bzzit we meet in Revolution is the same mosquito that Rayman fought in Anguish Lagoon. Not sure why anyone would reject that idea; it’s a nice link between the two games, and until recently we’ve had precious few of those.

That is true. The main reason I don't pick the link myself is because I don't like the name, and it was never officially confirmed. Of course they probably still are the same character.

I remember that in the Dreamcast version of R2TGE, Brainox asks Rayman if he wasn't from Rayman 1. I think this kinda supports the Bzzit fact too.
I like the name "Bzzit", but that's probably because English isn't my maternal language.

I don't really see that connection, but alright. Also in English when someone says "weren't you..." or "wouldn't it" or "wasn't it..." at the start of a sentence, it's usually an even more affirmative way of saying "were" or "would" or "was," it's sort of a "checking to make sure I'm right" question. I don't know if you already knew that, but I'm just pointing that out because it's a useful thing to know.

I know that, thank you.
I also know that this isn't a huge connection with the Rayman 1 game, but at least Brainox mentions it. What about the Antitoon cameo in R2TGE for PS1? Aswell some small mosquitoes in the Woods of Light? And the grimace idle animation which is also from the DC version? For me these are all connections with the previous game, although the Brainox dialogue is a very minor thing.

There are those, but they are merely species, when we were only talking about the name of the character. They don't really support the idea of the Rayman 1 mosquito's name being Bzzit.

Nobody needs to tell Rayman who Bzzit is. When Rayman finds him, Bzzit recognises Rayman and calls him by name. These facts strongly imply that Rayman and Bzzit already knew each other by the time the game began; the simplest and most likely explanation is that they met in Anguish Lagoon.

Sadly Ancel can't reply every question...
I'm still wondering about the interview.

I wonder how far along the fifth string the universe where Ubisoft is responsive exists.

Quite reasonable. The first time 'Bzzit' (or whatever his name really is) fights you, its for his own reasons. Then you become friends with him. Then
Mr. Dark takes 'control' of him and forces him to attack you again.
This same Moskito remembers you in The Great Escape.
One thing out of place here, is why this same Moskito lives in two different place. Moskito's Nest has to be his actual lair, but is the caves in Anguish Lagoon just some other location he happens to be present in?
