Which design do you prefer?

• The Magician in Rayman 1
• The Magician in Rayman Origins

I do. The blond hair and lack of eyes were unique traits. Now he's a freaking Teensie.

Same. I plan to use the blond-haired, limbless version of him again in my game. Their decision to make him a Teensie shows a lack of originality IMO as that means they couldn't come up with a better look for one of the most important characters in RO. Sad but true.

I totally agree. Honestly, his design is my only major complaint about Origins. Maybe I wouldn't be as annoyed if they kept some design traits, but to me, the R1 magician will always be THE magician.

Yeah, the classic Magician was awesome! The teensie Magician is all "I IZ SMALL AND FREAKY LOLOLOL I WANT LUUUUMMMS"

Making him a Teensie was fine, it's just that they should have kept the iconic blonde hair and lack of visible eyes.

I'm actually sort of glad they didn't keep his blonde hair and covered eyes. Makes it easier to believe they are NOT the same character.

I thought about this after I posted. Given that they look nothing alike, you can always argue they are different XD

I think the teensie thing bothers me because I always found him to be rather good looking

Rayman 1. It was not necessary to make him a teensie at all for that matter... so it's quite unfortunate. (Just a personal opinion, nothing too big if anyone disagrees)
However if you think about it how else would he reveal himself as mr. Dark while having the same big nose as rayman? I don't see how that'd be possible, but it's a great mind fuck to our childhoods.

Making him a Teensy was a big mistake, as we don’t feel the emotional connection that we would if he was more readily identifiable as the character we knew and loved from the original game. We should feel an acute sense of betrayal in The Reveal, but we don’t, because the Magician barely looks like himself. To make matters worse, he loses his iconic hat before the final chase – they couldn’t make him look any less like his original self if they tried.

If they really had to make him a Teensy, something like this would have been much better:

A couple of references to the part he played in the original game – maybe he could wax nostalgic about the days he exchanged bonus levels for Tings? – would have been welcome too, if only to confirm that they are indeed the same character.

I also prefer the original magician. The RO one is kinda ambiguous.

I prefer the RM01 Magician design... in RO, he looks like not similiar...

Since I never felt any actual emotional connection to the Rayman 1 characters, and I like the idea of Rayman being the (almost) only limbless guy around, I'm on team Teensy.

It's a very lonely team.

I also like the idea of Rayman being the only one of his kind, but the Teensie design is just lacking in the looks department. It would have been much cooler if the villain turned out to be the good-looking blonde salesman/magician (I'm starting to doubt the name as he was more intended to be a salesman than a magician).

What Drolpiraat and Spiraldoor said. I love the idea that Rayman is the only one of his species, but for the love of god, The Magician turning into a Teensie just makes him feel nothing like his original character, and thus we don't feel the betrayal impact nearly as much.

I'll be honest, the Reveal kinda confused me. Heck, the story in general kinda confused me. I must have missed something along the way. I mainly thought it was about the Livid Dead annoyed with the snoring so they take revenge. Then the magician thing comes out of nowhere. I dont mind him being evil. I always thought there was something fishy about how he demanded tings from you

I do actually like the idea that Rayman is the only one of his species. But they still could have done something better with the magician. I dunno. Give him limbs and change his proportions a bit so he doesnt look completely like Rayman. The Teensie thing just seems like a bit of an easy fix without giving it much thought. I mean, the story is that they just never gave Rayman limbs when he was created, so why couldnt there have been other similar species with limbs? Either way, I'm losing my own argument :p

I thoroughly enjoyed Rayman 2's perspective on Rayman's origin, about how "no one knew where he came from." Considering the surreal atmosphere of Rayman 2, I think it deserves a much better explanation than a wisp of "being created by the nymphs out of laziness."

I really don't know what to take as canon anymore :p Eh. At least is not as convoluted as Kingdom hearts.

(I've never played Rayman 2 or 3 for what its worth, I only have an idea of the plot from reading about it)
