Robots are Scary

Those things are gonna take over the world one day.

But I love em and I want one, i'd name him Gary. He would be my housemate. Or a Waifu one to fufill my weeaboo cravings.
I'd hate to see those vocaloids robots running around though. That would be pretty damn freaky, plus miku would be gang raped in hours of her creation.

Anyways Robot discussion here. How do you feel about Humanoids and other robotics coming into our lives?

This is a year and a half old. Amazing nonetheless.

Those are indeed awesome.

Well this would be my reaction if someone ever worked on a GLaDOS project :

We need to make artificial intelligences that are smart enough to improve themselves.

That's a part of the thread, i will talk about this..

Wellie well, Gin from Crash has a robotic voice (his voice is before Nolan North), he was appeared in Crash 2 and the ND games... also i remembered watching the OP of Crash Nitro Kart and he says "Dingodile! Press another!"... In my fact and opinion, Gin is supposed to be a robot in the officials...

and that will be the begin of the robot take-over...

Agreed, or ones that can actually think.

Of course. That’s the whole point.

That is what I'm afraid of. But it would also be nice to see robots who think just like humans, possibly even better.
You know now that I think about it robots taking over would be great. lol. I really can't wait to see robots that are practicly human being developed.

But this machine would either build another machine in order to improve itself, or be technically less inteligent than we are.

I highly doubt this will ever happen.

The idea is that it would create a sort of feedback loop of endless self-improvement.

Why not? Do you think there is a part of the human brain that can never be simulated?

I think proper thinking can't be simulated. I might be wrong, but I think evolved IAs just match thousands and thousands of cases, nothing else. They can't come with a solution of their own, they lack creativity.

I’m talking about the possibilities of the future, not today’s primative attempts at artificial intelligence. If you created a virtual simulation of a human brain that was an exact replica on a cellular level, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to think and feel and imagine. It’s not like people have souls or anything.

How exactly could you simulate a human brain ? I don't think we will ever fully understand how brains work, so simulating them seems to be a hopeless cause to me. I really do think the mechanisms and the re-creation of the human intelligence will forever be out of reach.

Plus wouldn't robots be limited to thinking only logic, and never creative like we humans?

I won’t pretend to understand it, but there are numerous projects currently underway which intend to do exactly that, like the Swiss government’s Blue Brain Project, or the neural computer IBM has been building in Almaden.

I don’t think there’s anything special about the human brain. It’s just a piece of flesh with some interesting chemical processes taking place inside it. There’s nothing magical or immaterial in there. Our understanding of it advances every day, and it’s only a matter of time before it’s complete.

Sure, if you’re talking about modern robots like ASIMO, but futuristic AIs are a different kettle of fish.

You sound very optimistic here. Our current understanding of the human brain is ridiculous. Sure, we have some superficial knowledge about it, but nothing that can help us understand how those chemical reactions grant us our intelligence.
