Weird New Version of the Tonic Trouble Beta? (Found by me)

Sorry that this is in the Rayman board and isn't really about Rayman, but this was the best place I could find for it (and besides, it's still about the adventures of a limbless dude voiced by David Gasman right? ;))

So, I recently purchased a version of Tonic Trouble for the PC with aims of playing it instead of the N64 version (neither me or my brother get on well with the strangely designed N64 controller). However, my brother pointed out today that the disk and case looked a little unusual. It has a copyright date of 1997 instead of 1999, a different disk design to the final game which is golden in colour, no full disk sleeve or manual - and the side of the case is in white with 'Tonic Trouble' lazily printed on in Times New Roman.

We tried it out, and it was indeed the beta version with the hard to control Ed and red spade pick-ups.

However, there seems to be some differences to footage and information on the 'Special Edition' found online. First of all, the game is in English and not in French, and also some of the music is missing (there is no menu music, for instance). There is no reference to it being a 'Special Edition' anywhere - not on the case or in the game. The case design also seems a bit hasty for something that was released to the public, even if it was a weird beta version.

Are all of the things described above normal for the Tonic Trouble beta, or am I now in possession of some strange new version? Either way, it's still really weird owning a beta of a game, particularly by mistake! The only problem now is - I can't properly play Tonic Trouble on the PC because I don't have the final! Ah-well!

Oh, I'll be happy to post up images of the game's box and disk if anyone's interested :)

Is it possible to upload footage?
This sounds intriguing.

Do you think you could upload the contents of the disc? I’m sure some people here would like to examine it for themselves; who knows what sort of content has been added or removed from this version?

I managed to find another picture of a disk that looked like my one on the internet, so I doubt I have a rare version or something and it's probably just the beta that everybody knows about. Still I'll be happy to look into it more to see if there is anything different or undiscovered, this is all very interesting :)

EDIT: Here are images of the CD case. I won't bother posting them as images because it never seems to work for everyone when I upload images for some reason, and also they are pretty large and would take up the whole page anyway :P

So, is that normal for the bizarrely titled 'Special Edition'?

I have both version of TT (beta and final). And yeah my beta cd looks like this.

But... I saw in some youtube video that the first beta map (the ski slope) has a orange with a door on it at the end of the map (on the lake). That orange is not im my beta....but i didn't find other diffrences (and didn't really searched for).
