Hello fella's,

For years, I've been having a lot of idea's and inspiration (Mainly from Rayman 2 and 3, and other fanprojects like Rayfan9876's fangame and abhirao2001's flashgames) to work on a 3D Rayman fangame.
Just recently, I decided to start working on this project and decided to call it: "Rayman Chronicles".
The game will include characters like Ly and Clark.
But it will also include a new villian.

This is a non-profit fangame, purely meant to work on in my sparetime for fun.

The Story!(Version 3)

When Mr. Dark vanished, the only thing remaining was a book with a black and purple cover.

This book contains information about Mr. Dark's background.

Mr. Dark was actually an avatar of an evil god named The Master Of Puppets (Metallica reference).
The one who possesses this book can summon/awaken The Master Of Puppets, but is also able to capture/defeat him.
When The Master Of Puppets awakens, the book will be shattered into 5 crystals.

The book can only be brought back if the 5 crystals reunite.

The person who finds this book first is Barbe-Tranchante (Razorbeard) after Rayman destroyed him, his prison-ship and his henchmen.

Idea's:

-The Master Of Puppets can control his minions using a marionette.
This marionette never shows up, only during the introduction of bossfights.

-Rayman shoots the energy balls from Rayman 2 again and they get bigger when you hold the shoot button.

-Rayman has to travel though a few worlds, where he encounters different enemies.

-Idea's for enemies are:
Forest Creatures (Trolls, Elfs, Fairies (With a Rayman twist))
Eskimo's and bears (In an Icestage)
Indians (With a Rayman look ofcourse)
Robot Pirates (Henchmen)

-There will be 5 worlds devided into 25 levels.

(New) Characters:

The Mutin Tribe: A group of Rebellious indians who do nothing but pirate other tribes. (Picture will be uploaded soon)

Bosses

World's:
- Esoteric Forest
- Tribal Mountains
-Robot Pirate Factory

Music:

Moved to Rayman Artworks since fangames count as such too.

I'm sorry, I don't know any 'Masterworm2'. But I was wondering, which one's better in terms of visuals? CryEngine or Unity?

CryEngine is factually the engine with the highest and best capability of graphics in the world, however if you're used to other engines that require you to compile and script traditionally, then it may be a step outside your comfort zone.

In Unity3D, you need to have some experience with programming in Java. (While I know absolutely nothing about java)
Is this any different in CryEngine?

(Sorry for all those questions XD)

In CryEngine, you hardly need any coding skills, all the in game events are made using a visual flowgraph system. It works quite differently than any other engine, and the interface itself resembles that of Autodesk programmes. The hard-coded languages it uses are XML, LUA, ActionScript and C++, but they are much more seldom used.

However, I haven't really used Unity, so I can't comment too well on it.

Ah thanks, I'm having a lot of problems with Unity3D, I'll take a look at CryEngine. + I hardly ever get an answer in the Unity forums, so yeah ..

It's great to see another fangame project. I'm a great supporter of fanworks. :)

Anyways, just to clear some things up: Java is not the same as JavaScript. They are completely different languages, despite the name, C-like syntax and object-oriented nature. As far as I know, Unity 3D is mainly written in C++, while the scripting framework is written in C#. It features its own built-in scripting language, UnityScript, with a syntax that is strongly resemble ECMAScript (JavaScript). Although it's possible to visually construct games using plugins.

But I think you solely should focus on the contents of this game project as a start. I'd recommend you to do some concept art or visual setup, as a promotional snapshot or animation, to represent your views of what it should look like. It's only afterwards you should let other people handle the technical aspects, where my suggestion is to make it open source, and let the code be hosted at a place like GitHub.

Finally, I must say that I was far from impressed with the introduction of this project, as it lacked a lot of substance and structure, so I would suggest that you used some time to improve this in order to make it convincing, if you really want other people to join you. :)

Hello PowerPatrick,

I didn't know there excisted another script called Java, I'll change that right now.
I'm pretty much getting idea's and concepts together at the moment, but I also want to make an engine.

Do you know anything about programming in Javascript?

Btw could you send me a mail with the full story so far, so I can get more into this story?
And why does rayman have those signs on his hand and that scar on his eye/face?

Java is a language, not a script. ;)

Yes, I have a lot of experience with JavaScript, which was the first thing besides of PHP that I started using back in 2005, but I also have some experience in Java and C, while I'm also capable of programming i C++, C#, Python, Object Pascal and other languages as well.

The only issue is that I'm not experienced with 3D game development in general, even though I've once looked at Ogre3D and Irrlict, but I can easily practice in this field, and also read the documentation of certain 3D engines and SDK to understand how they work, in order to use them for development.

But I have my own stuff to take care of at this moment.

Ah, I only have a bit of experience with GML from Game Maker.

+ That's ok, good luck with that!

That's his design for this game. Nothing too complicated.
