Dang, Sony really wants their games to be adapted into movies.

Yeah it's pretty crazy.
http://www.examiner.com/article/are-jak ... ome-movies here's basically what I was referring to earlier. Back in 2012 before anything was announced, someone found that blockade entertainment were supposedly working on Ratchet, Jak, Sly and modnation racers movies, 2/4 have come to be true so far. Modnation seems like a really weird choice for movie though.. Jak however would just be awesome. I can't imagine either of those being announced 'til at least next year.

Considering that video game film adaptations tend to be terrible, why is Sony pushing for them so badly?

I think they were terrible because many past video game adaptations were of games like Super Mario bros which despite being a great game had a very weak - non existent plot/ very basic characters, so adapting it to a film resulted in things being drastically changed. The fact that it was live action didn't help at all either. Now if you look at the games Sony is adapting, Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper, these games already had really good storylines and cutscenes as well as fleshed out characters, so they can adapt these to film much easier. Also the fact they are keeping them animated with most of the original voice actors/writers too helps a lot. Who knows though, they could flop and suck really hard, but they definitively have much more promise than past video game adaptations.

It also has to do with the fact the companies who made these games have close involvement in the film. Even going as far as having writers from the games write the movie. Video game movies have potential, and I'm hoping these two movies are great so we could see some more in the future.

Can't they just finish Ratchet and Clank first? (< very impatient) I did not see this coming at all but I'm excited!

I'm actually somewhat optimistic given the circumstances behind the films, there are people heavily involved with the games themselves and indeed, the same Voice Actors from the games also. I think that having a closer connection to the progenitors and creators might prove beneficial in ensuring these adaptations break the mould, as it were.

I hope takes place somtime between sly's 1 and 2 or during sly 3. Mainly because I haven't played Sly 4 and I don't want to. I was spoiled on what happened with Penelope and I didn't' like it. Also I hope Carmelita wears the outfit she wore in the first three games instead of that awful mini skirt. plus I could see her ribs...thats not a good sign.

It's apparently going to be an adaptation of the first game, with aspects modified and added like with the Ratchet and Clank film.

But look at the Silent Hill movies, or the Alone in the Dark movie. Those games, especially the Silent Hill games, have a fairly solid narrative, and yet the movies were still crap. I honestly think it has more to do with those making the film half-assing its production than anything else.

That one will be released in 2015, alongside hoverboards and Pepsi that isn't free.

Tech, you make a good point, but considering that many people who are involved in the game series are involved with those films, I'd think the half-assedness would be severely reduced as these are people who clearly care and understand the franchise they're dealing with.

I'm sure a lot of companies would like to have their games be feature films. It's just the reputation that films based on video games have probably prevents them from doing so. As I said, I hope Sly and Ratchet are successful both commercially and critically so companies can see that movies based on video games aren't a lost cause.

What SNU said. I myself have never fully played the games though and both look amazing, so no doubt me and a friend or two will go see them. I particularly enjoyed the police jokes in the sly cooper trailer!

I played and beaten Sly 1 and 2 when I got the HD collection. 2 being my personal favorite, I played a little bit of 3, but I got side-tracked and haven't played since. Same with Jak 3, gotta get back to those.

Meh, the HD Collection isn't exactly the best porting job in the world, and you'd probably have better luck playing the original games in PCSX2.

Really? They all played pretty fine for me. The only problem I had was in the Mz.Ruby boss fight, were the music was off-sync.

There's that and some other issues, such as missing shading effects and other audio problems (such as missing/"remixed" tracks in the first game and skipping).
It's not really a bad port, but you literally would get a better experience playing on PCSX2.

In all fairness and honesty, I don't think any of the PS2 Platforming Trio had spectacular HD ports. From experience, the Jak HD collection is pretty much standard, it looks like the originals but in 720p. It's only let down by one cutscene in Jak 2, and sadly, it's one of the biggest ones in terms of plot, where Kor reveals himself as Metal Head leader.

The only HD port I had major issues with was the Ratchet: Gladiator one. The animation was totally screwed in the majority of in-game cutscenes. There's also the fact that a few skill points were glitched and just didn't work at all for me..
