The first one, loved the eerie atmsophere and tension. The second one was good but I wasn't captivated like I was with the first. I watched like 10 minutes of the 3rd as i wanted to see Mocksy from Auf Wiedersehen Pet get brutally murdered by an Alien.

It's been too long since I've seen the movies. I really ought to rewatch them one of these days.
I can't remember much except loving the design of the aliens themselves. They're just. So. Cooool.

Alien is a gripping horror film with a really great art style and one of the most memorable monster designs ever. Tense and all the better for its naturalistic dialogue and characterisation. Almost flawless.
Aliens is a one of the best action films ever made. Very exciting and engaging, with good character journeys and a solid thematic through-line.
Alien 3 is another horror film. It's well-directed and has some great cinematography, but it fails to recapture the tension and wonder and fear of the original film (which is clearly what they were trying to do). Some story developments are pointlessly cruel or nonsensical in ways that disrespect the previous two films (both of which were much better).
Alien Resurrection is a bizarre black comedy. Very refreshing after the bitter bleakness of Alien 3. It was written by a very witty American geek and directed by a brilliant French lunatic. The result is probably nowhere near what either of them wanted it to be, but I have always been rather fond of it. The hybrid creature born late in the film is like a metafictional self-commentary. Charmingly, enjoyably bad.
Alien vs Predator is a cynical cash-in with no artistic merit, but it's good entertainment. I kind of like it.
Aliens vs Predator: Requiem is the only film in the series that I haven't watched, because I've heard it's absolutely horrible.
Prometheus is wonderfully directed, shot, cast, acted, designed and produced. Admirably different for an Alien film. The script is a mess of cringeworthy moments and illogical character behaviour, but the film contains some of the most beautiful and thought-provoking moments of the series.

I share every single one of spiraldoor's points of view on each of the films, except that I didn't find Prometheus to be nearly as good as a lot of people tell me it is. The script I found not just cringe-worthy, but abysmal to the point of ruining the majority of the film for me. Prometheus has an intriguing premise and fantastic cinematography, but the execution I thought was just awful (graphics aside).
But even when it came to the look of the film, I honestly wanted to see more alien-related occurrences and those beautiful, almost surreal landscapes. They stayed for the most part inside the not-as-interesting ship and mostly around these rocky, uninteresting landscapes.
(This serves as a calmer, less rage-induced contraction of what I posted in the Movies thread.)

If they'd just released the opening scene of Prometheus as a short film, it would still have been better than 95% of the films out there.

My father has been searching for the DVD of Prometheus since he wants a lot to see it with me. We originally intended to go to the cinema to watch it but we ended up waiting for the DVD.

One of the most interesting topics I have come across so far here.
Alien: To sum it all up in one word: FUCKING BRILLIANT. Though not as frightening or action-packed as I expected, Alien has a very good storyline that makes perfect sense (especially in the Director's Cut) and scares though the idea of isolation. It rarely uses jump scares. A great horror film.
Aliens: Though not quite as good as the first movie (my opinion), Aliens is one of the best sequels ever made, and a great action (not horror) film.
I have not seen Alien 3 or 4, and don't really want to, based on what I've heard.
Prometheus: Awful. Just...awful. Yes, the visuals were spectacular, but is there really anything else good about the movie? Bad storyline, not scary (unless you count a few jump scares as frightening), and an ending that made no sense whatsoever. This movie did not do the first film justice and was not an adequate prequel. I agree with adsolution's opinion of this movie.

You've been spoilt. Watch Ultraviolet, look me in the eye and tell me Prometheus is a bad film.

Ultraviolet, I watched it few years ago, but I already remember nothing about it. Maybe that's the problem of the movie itself.

I wish I could cleanse my brain of it.

Sadly there are other bad movies that I saw but I also wished I could forget about them.

Hahah, Ultraviolet. That's in a whole nother league of bad. Prometheus is just a very mediocre disappointment to a great series, introduction and visuals aside.

I've only seen Alien and Prometheus, liking Alien more, but finding them both good.

The first Alien is indeed a horror masterpiece, while the second one is a great action movie.
I remember being rather disappointed with the others, but I should watch them again as I only remember bits and pieces.
As for Promotheus, while I agree that it's stunningly beautiful, the nonsensical script just ruined it for me and the few nods to the series just weren't enough to make a good film of it.
