PS1 Image Resolution
I noticed that Fifo brought up that the Rayman 2 PS1 images didn't seem right, then Ribshark actually mentioned that Rayman 1 on PS1 is only 239 pixels tall, that the bottom scanline is blank. I noticed row 119 and 120 in this image were duplicated, so I removed the extra row and reuploaded it. I've double checked on an emulator and it even says the native resolution is 320x239 for the game. The resolution for the PS1 version of Rayman 2 is 320x240 also, RayCarrot pointed it out and I also confirmed that on the emulator. This means many of those images are actually double the resolution they should be, aside from the missing pixels. -- 00:34, 4 January 2020 (CET)
- Almost every single R1 PS1 screenshot here is 320×240, and I was under the impression that this was the resolution output by the various emulators I tried. Maybe they were somehow all configured to add a duplicate line at the bottom? Any idea why? In any case, there's going to be a lot of editing to do. — 11:29, 6 January 2020 (CET)
- Most PS1 games would use 320x240, but basically Rayman 1 on PS1 seems to have one blank scanline on the bottom according to Rib, which makes it only 239 pixels tall. Chances are some emulators must have overlooked this and assumed the image should be 240 tall, which is why they ended up with a duplicated row of pixels.
- I really only noticed this because after Rib mentioned it, I decided to look into it, and the duplicated row happens to be under Rayman's eye. I had assumed at first that emulators added an extra row themselves, but then I was comparing a Rayman sprite from this screenshot with Rayman Advance. It was only then that I noticed his eye looked weird, and his nose looked big compared to the Advance sprite.
- As for the editing, hopefully it ends up being the same two rows in each image, that would make it a little easier. -- 19:20, 7 January 2020 (CET)
- Well, I guess we're due for some heavy editing now! — 13:55, 9 January 2020 (CET)
- Would it make more sense to use PAL screenshots for PS1 (320x256) since the NTSC resolution is odd, or does it really matter? As of now I've just been taking the duplicate row out of the 320x240 images to make them 320x239, and replacing any PAL ones I seen that are squashed with missing detail. -- 20:09, 25 January 2020 (CET)
