"You're doomed Rayman!" - Mister Dark.
| image =
| alignment = Bad
| sex = Male
| species = Unknown
| status = Villain
}}

Mr. Dark is the main antagonist in Rayman. He is a mysterious being that steals the Great Protoon because of its immense power, causing the world to lose its natural stability. He also uses his powers to defeat Betilla the Fairy, who tries to defend the Great Protoon but is overpowered. At a later point of the game, Dark kidnaps Betilla and traps her in a crystal ball.

As a villain
Despite his role in Rayman as the main antagonist, he does not choose to fight Rayman, but rather cast strange spells on him, such as creating Bad Rayman, making Rayman run uncontrollably, and reversing his movements. Following this, by the time Rayman reaches the top of his castle, he tries to destroy him by trapping him between deadly walls of fire, but then combines the bodies of the previous bosses into 3 different battles to fight. The first fight is against a hybrid of Mister Stone and Mister Skops, the second fight is against two hybrids of Moskito and Space Mama, and the third and final fight is against a hybrid of Moskito, Mister Sax and Space Mama. After Rayman defeats these bosses, Mr. Dark flees. Because of this, the return of Betilla and the Great Protoon are not seen, though a picture shown afterwards suggests that they had been rescued.

Fighting back
Mr. Dark's role as a villain is looked into a lot more in the Game Boy Color release of Rayman. In this game he has imprisoned the Toons and uses their power for himself, throwing the world into darkness and chaos. Unlike the original, he engages in a final boss battle with Rayman. In between each level he can also be seen watching Rayman though a crystal ball.

The Final Battle
It starts out with Mr. Dark shielding himself from your fists with three bubble-like balls. Then, he slowly rises up, and when he is off screen, he rains fire upon you from above. After ten to fifteen fire balls are dropped, he descends back down to the stage, while still having the shield around himself, and turns into a ball. While in Ball form, he randomly floats around the stage trying to ram you. Your objective is to hit him while he is in Ball form three times. But as you hit him, he gets smaller and smaller, and becomes harder to hit. After hitting him three times, a heart appears at the top of the stage so you can replenish your health. Mr. Dark turns back to normal, and then he floats off screen again. This time, he throws ten meteors at you, two at a time. Then, he does the same routine as before: He comes back down, and turns into a ball. But this time, he will stay in Ball form for a shorter period than before, and if you can't manage to hit him three times within the time limit, he will turn back to normal and float back up into the sky to throw meteors at you again. If you do hit him three times, a heart will appear once again, and he will rise back up into the sky to unleash his final attack. This time, he shoots sixteen bolts of lightning. They are shot at the step you were just above on the stage, and can be easily avoided by using your Helico power to hover over a lower step for a short time. After the sixteen bolts of lightning are shot, he turns back into Ball form. It's same as before, but now the time he is in Ball form for even less time. But if you manage to hit him three times before he turns back to normal, you have beaten him. He turns back to normal form, burns up, and a spirit shape appears right where he burned up, then the spirit completely fades from existence.

Mr. Dark's revenge
Stealing the Book of Knowledge
Mr. Dark also appears in the educational version of Rayman 1, Rayman Junior, in which he steals the Great Book of Knowledge from the Magician and destroys a map to his hideout, which is also in a world based on desserts. Like the original game, he casts the same spells on Rayman, but due to the nature of the game being educational, he doesn't fight as a final boss at all.

Rayman (GBC) is a remake of the original Rayman which was released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. Due to the handheld's technical limits, the game is a lot shorter than the original and Rayman himself is brought down to a small number of pixels high, yet it still manages to recreate the colorful universe of the original on the Game Boy Color.

Notable differences
* While Rayman's sprite is a smaller version of that in the original Rayman, the rest of this version's artwork uses his Rayman 2 appearance.
* The Tings are now tiny fairies that float inside magical balls Rayman has to collect.
* The entire game uses no music from the original, instead replaced with music from Rayman 2.
* The games uses only a password feature.
* There are no bosses at the end of each world, apart from Mr. Dark who this time will actually fight you at the very end. This has made the game a lot short and somewhat easier than the original.
* Several characters from the original (The Magician, Tarayzan, Betilla etc) do not appear in the game.
* Access to bonus levels is represented by an exit sign which has an arrow facing upwards, rather than the Magician.
* When Rayman is near a cage, the music changes.
* The World Map is accessible at the end of the game.
* All levels have completely original names, and slightly original scenery.

Other Features
Ubi Key
The Ubi Key was an exclusive feature in which two Game Boy Colors would transfer data to each other using the infra-red links (the small black tabs next to where the user inserts the Game Pak). In this case, a giant key would be found at some point of the game, and when these are transferred they would give you access to bonuses, such as a secret level.

Sticker Book
New copies of the game would contain a small sticker booklet and some stickers using some Rayman 2 artwork. Oddly enough there is also a page that featured Rigatoni, the main antagonist from the Animated Series, which was possibly a means to advertise the series though it never aired in more than a few countries. The rest of the stickers could be obtained at the now defunct official Rayman 2 website, Rayman2.com.

Rayman 2 Forever (known as Rayman 2 in the USA) is a remake of Rayman 2: The Great Escape that was released only on the Game Boy Color, and is the sequel to Rayman on the same handheld console. Unlike its predecessor, which had a plot similar to that of the original Rayman, this game follows the same plot as Rayman 2. All of the music is taken directly from the first Game Boy Color game, only with added beats. And instead of using a password system, Rayman 2 Forever has a save battery, and allows you to have three save files. The graphics also appear less advanced, most likely due to the fact that the game is longer and cartridge space limits would not allow for more complex visuals.

Lums
Also, playing a similar role to the Tings in the previous title, the Lums are what you find and collect through out the levels. Unlike Tings, Lums will only be picked up once, and will not reappear once you have found it. There are eight hundred Lums in all.

Cages
Cages are not as high priority as in the previous title. They are often put to easier-to-find places, and a typical level would only have one cage to be found. Also, to better mimic the console versions of the game, Teensies are now trapped in these cages instead of Electoons.

Time Attack
Time Attack makes a return in the sequel, and instead of collecting Tings before time runs out, you are tasked to collect Baby Globoxes. The portals that you go into to get to the Time Attacks are like typical exit portals, although they spin left instead of right.

Powers
Unlike the first GBC Rayman title, or Rayman 2 The Great Escape, you start out with all powers, and keep them through out the game. The only other power there is that you don't start out with, or keep at all times, is the Super Helico power.
