In the original Rayman, they are found only in Dream Forest, and fly up from the water with their helicopter caudal fin. If Rayman touches them he loses a hit point, and if he's unlucky, he could be pushed into the water and lose a life. Rayman can defend himself from piranhas by punching or shooting them, which shatters their sharp teeth and then defeats them. A single punch can get rid of them.

In Rayman 2, they are found in any body of water that Rayman cannot swim in, usually polluted or stagnated water, or even acid. Two major kinds of piranhas live in those places: the small ones that devour Rayman when he falls into water, and the bigger ones that jump from water and try to bite him. A single energy ball can get rid of the second kind.

They are also present in all versions of Rayman 3, mainly in the Bog of Murk, but while Rayman can actually swim in the dirty waters they live in, they will deplete his energy very quickly and cause a game over. There also seems to be a "jumping" version too, in the Bog of Murk, where they often jump over logs Rayman has to walk across. But there are also special (mechanical?) version in the Clearleaf Forest, in the phase where Globox ascends the waterfall. Oddly, they can jump from the waterfall's water in contradiction with physics laws.

Piranhas are also found in the GBA version of Rayman 3 in Forgotten Forests, jumping out of the water in the same manner as those in Rayman 2. They can also be hit and killed in one blow, smashing their teeth as well.

In Rayman Raving Rabbids (GBA), they appear in the forest levels, looking identical to the ones in the first game. The Rayman 3 variations also appear in Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge. They also appeared in Rabbids go Home as coollectible stuff.
Rabbids Go Home is the fourth installment of the Rayman Raving Rabbids series. It was officially revealed in a Nintendo Power article in early 2009, and is set to be released later that year. Centering entirely around the Rabbids, Rayman will not appear in the game as the main character or even a supporting character. Rabbids Go Home was inspired by the controls of Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart.

Plot
The Rabbids have had enough of our world, classing us as 'boring', and want to go to the home from whence they came, before all of the Raving Rabbids party games. Trouble is, they have no idea where they came from. At a loss, the Rabbids decide to live on the moon. Two Rabbids journey to build a tower of junk to reach the moon, basic every-day objects taken from the humans, which the main goals of the levels will be to get ahold of a large object, but you will also get rewards for collecting other things you get along the way, usually involving them being smashed up. One Rabbid steers a shopping cart while the other rides in it. You can also steal the highly stereotypical human clothing, from the over 100 different 'types of human' including the likes of Goths and cowboys, as you barge into them.
There will be 6 hub worlds, 20 environments and 50 missions. Most likely by the help of Rayman because of him giving the humans information about the rabbids in a previous game, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, there are the Verminators, the human response to the sudden 'Rabbid invasion', and Vermi-Dogs, wicked canines that hunt the Rabbids in packs.

Gameplay
Typically, two of the Rabbids ride a shopping trolley, and the aim is to steal the humans' property in places they least expect, ranging from their food right down to their clothes, to fill up their trolley. Another level also sees these two Rabbids breaking off a propeller from an aeroplane and riding through an airport on it, sucking up objects and humans alike. At one point, the Rabbids have to catch three Verminators on this unusual vehicle, before moving on further into the level.

The Rabbids duo have three hit points, represented by lightbulbs, one of which will go bust if they are hurt. If all three bulbs go out, then the Rabbids lose a life.

There are also a few minigames aside from the story mode, one of which is Inside the Wiimote, in which a Rabbid is sucked into the inside of a virtual Wiimote and is tossed around as the player shakes the real Wiimote about.

Trivia
*Rayman will be absent from the game, so it is actually not considered a Rayman game or even in the Rayman series.
*It is rumoured that Michel Ancel is involved in the production of the game.
*This will be the first in the new Rayman-free Rabbids franchise, unless the two franchises have split.
* This game will have an Rabbid torture feature.
*This game will be on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
*You can unlock some of the most famous Ubisoft characters in their own "Rabbid version!
