stub

Globox Disc is a multi-player minigame that was first seen in the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2. In this version the minigame can be unlocked when Rayman collects all six of the Glob Crystals that were scattered at various points in the game, and can then be accessed in the Globox Village. It is also available in Rayman 2: Revolution, in which it is known as 'BDisc' and is unlockable via the Magic Well.

Objective
The aim of the game is to take control of one of eight Globox babies, each with their own distinctive features and colours, and run through a circular rotating maze collecting an assortment of power-ups while trying to pick up the Lum that's located at the centre of the maze.

But you can't get it in other versions of Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PC, N64, DS, and PS1. It can only appear in Rayman 2: The Great Escape for Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 as Rayman 2: Revolution, and no, you can get minigames only in Rayman 2: The Great Escape for Sega Dreamcast and Rayman 2: Revolution for PlayStation 2.

The Four Masks of Polokus are a group of magical masks that are hidden away in the Sanctuaries, except for the last one which was found by a Baby Globox in most versions of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. It becomes Rayman's goal to find these after Ly tells him about them when she is rescued in the Fairy Glade, as a legend tells that when the masks reunite, Polokus will awaken from his long suspension. Each one is protected by a Guardian, who is instructed by Polokus to ward off any intruders that attempt to steal them.

Each of the Four Masks of Polokus is contained within a four-sided pillar at the end of its Sanctuary; each side of these pillars is decorated by by same O-shaped symbol found on Rayman's chest. When Rayman approaches these pillars, a beam of energy connects his symbol with one of the ones on the pillar, causing the pillar to open, and the Mask to rise out of it for Rayman to collect. When Rayman takes hold of one of the Masks, he is teleported to Polokus, who takes the Mask from him and affixes it to one of the four sides of the pillar he is standing on (this pillar looks the same as the ones the Masks are found in). When all four Masks are attached to Polokus's pillar, the pillar spins rapidly, transforming into a gas-like substance. When Rayman steps into this at Polokus's instruction, he is transported to the Prison Ship. Then, the pillar resolidifies under the newly-awakened Polokus, but the Four Masks are nowhere to be seen.

In the Sega Dreamcast version of Rayman 2, the player can gain access to the Globox Disc minigame in the Globox Village by collecting the Glob Crystals. Entering the Globox Disc minigame causes a short cutscene to play: Globox and Uglette are watching as their children play; the First and Third Masks are visible on wooden sticks in the background; the other two Masks are presumably also in the area. A male baby Globox accidentally drops the Third Mask into a pool of water; this causes a Globox-shaped statue to rise out of the pool. The statue opens its mouth and sinks back into the pool, leaving behind the Globox Disc on which the babies play the "Game of the Gods".

Rayman 2: The Great Escape is the second major game in the Rayman series, and is the sequel to Rayman. It was first released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 and was followed by ports for the Sega Dreamcast, PC, and Sony PlayStation, with each port being different in its own way perhaps due to the specifications of each console. It was also the first 3D game of the series, and introduced many brand new major characters, though featured almost none from its predecessor. Rayman 2: The Great Escape is often abbreviated as Rayman 2 or (to avoid confusion with the similarly named Rayman 2: Revolution) R2. The Sony PlayStation version of Rayman 2 was later released as a PSOne Classic on the North American PlayStation Network, on December 18, 2008.

Early production
Main article: Rayman 2 (2D prototype)

Recently, it was revealed that Rayman 2 was first developed to be a 2D platforming game in the same vein as Rayman, for the Sony PlayStation and the Sega Saturn.[source] Screenshots and videos suggested that the game was still going to be about a robot invasion as it featured enemies similar to the Robo-Pirates, and it also featured background platforming - using a device similar to a shower head and a toilet flush, Rayman could teleport from the foreground to the background. One video in particular also featured a female character with red hair that appears to be Betilla the Fairy, but could also be Betina in a cameo.

The whole of this game was cancelled in favour of the 3D version it became, though a playable prototype (version 01.12d) featuring one level is included in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2, and unlocked if the player collects at least 720 Yellow Lums out of 800. It was recently discovered that this prototype was finished on May 31st 1996 and was sent to the Playstation RayMan 2 team for review.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Rayman 2 is somewhat similar to that of Rayman, though this time Rayman starts with a few powers to defend himself, one of which is given to him by Globox who is introduced at the very beginning. The aim of the game is to rescue all of the Yellow Lums that have been scattered following the explosion of the Primordial Core, and the creatures that have been imprisoned in cages, while defeating any Robo-Pirates that stand in Rayman's way.

Main Characters
The Good Guys
*Rayman - The hero and protagonist of the game
*Globox - Rayman's best friend; husband of Uglette and father of the baby Globoxes
*Ly the Fairy - Rayman's friend and powerful ally
*Murfy - Serves as an "instructor"-type character
*The Teensies - Keepers of the Hall of Doors
*Clark the Giant - A friend of Rayman's
*Sssssam - a snake who helps Rayman cross the Marshes of Awakening

The Bad Guys
*Admiral Razorbeard - The villain of the game
*Robo-Pirate Army - Razorbeard's army

Environment
Unlike Rayman, Rayman 2 is not divided into certain themed worlds, but rather a trail of 20 different locations, none of which are as surreal as its predecessor's, but are still dissimilar to the real world. The levels are played in a linear fashion in a World Map known as the Hall of Doors (Isle of Doors in the Dreamcast version), with most levels following a single path (though the Cave of Bad Dreams, Walk of Life, and Walk of Power are on side-paths). The player is able to backtrack to past levels if he or she wishes, and can move on to the final stage without breaking all of the cages.

Levels
PC, N64 and Dreamcast version
* The Woods of Light
* The Fairy Glade
* The Marshes of Awakening
* The Bayou
* The Walk of Life (sublevel)
* The Sanctuary of Water and Ice
* The Menhir Hills
* The Cave of Bad Dreams (sublevel)
* The Canopy
* Whale Bay
* The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire
* The Echoing Caves
* The Precipice
* The Top of the World
* The Sanctuary of Rock and Lava
* The Walk of Power (sublevel)
* Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava
* The Tomb of the Ancients
* The Iron Mountains
* The Prison Ship
* The Crow's Nest

Hack
It is possible to run the game under higher resolutions than 1024x768 by a simple hack.
By editing the file C:\WINDOWS\UbiSoft\ubi.in with a basic text editor, you'll have something like this
</pre>
The GLI_Mode line defines the resolution of the game. You'll just have to replace "1024 x 768" by "1440 x 900" to run the game in 1440x900 instead of the default 1024x768.

Caution: Modifying the other values may crash the game.
The intro in N64, PC and DS don't have any voices, but in Rayman 2: The Great Escape for Sega Dreamcast, the Guy's Voice appears in the Prologue, and is the Narrator of Rayman 2: The Great Escape for Dreamcast.

Promotion
Ubisoft promoted Rayman 2 with many toys and even a cartoon. There were YoYos, cell phone covers, a PlayStation 2 remote, a version of the game with a figure, and Happy Meal toys.

Cartoon
Main Article: Rayman: The Animated Series

McDonald's
Ubisoft joined with McDonald's to make a happy meal with Rayman toys. These toys were a Rayman rolling on a Walking Shell, Rayman on a plum with spinning helicopter hair, a light-up cage, a sound-making Henchman 800, a wobbling Globox and Ly.

Tonic Trouble
Characters from each game made cameo appearances in the other game. In Tonic Trouble, Rayman would be seen during the game's end credits. In Rayman 2, a salesman who previously appeared in the intro sequence of the PC version of Tonic Trouble sells the Grolgoth to Razorbeard late in the game. Tonic Trouble was worked on (though not developed) by Michel Ancel, used the Rayman 2 engine, originally appeared on the same platforms as Rayman 2, and was also released by Ubisoft, giving reason for the crossovers, though Tonic Trouble had not fared well critically or commercially, whereas Rayman 2 became successful in both areas.

Rayman Mobile
Rayman Bowling, Rayman Golf, and Rayman Garden are spin-offs of Rayman 2 and its remakes. Gameloft ported them to the N-Gage and other Samsung and Nokia phones.

Remakes
*Rayman 2: Revolution - PlayStation 2 remake that was essentially a slightly more difficult version of the original, with added levels, enemies, and a new free-roaming feature.
*Rayman DS - DS remake identical to the original N64 version, though many glitches and bugs were included that were not present in the original.

Trivia
* In the German gaming magazine PC Player (issue 01/2000) Rayman 2: The Great Escape was named as "Best Platformer in 1999".

* The PSX release of Rayman 2 originally came with a digital watch.

* In Japan, some characters with purple in them were changed. Rayman's body was made blue, Sssssam the snake turned into a kind of green, and Jano's hat was turned red. But the most bizarre change was made to Ly, who's body was changed from yellow/purple to white/pink.

* The names of a few characters changed during design of the game.

The original name of Globox was Globber.
The original name of Razorbeard was Razorface.
The original name of the Teensies was Smalbeings.
The original name of Polokus was Polochus.
And the robo-pirates were originally named the Mysterious Guild.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape (PC, N64, Dreamcast, DS, PSX, and PS2 version)

Axel is a boss from Rayman 2: The Great Escape/Rayman 2: Revolution and is the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Unlike most bosses in most video games, Axel only takes one hit to be destroyed, making him less powerful than some of the other guardians. He attacks by throwing icicles at Rayman, who has to get to him by shooting at Purple Lums in the air. Once there, Rayman then shoots a giant icicle, causing it to fall on to Axel's head, defeating him.

Despite being a boss to defeat who tries to kill you, he is not entirely evil as he is just guarding the Sanctuary of Water and Ice and the 1st Mask, which is one of the four masks to awaken Polokus. Axel guards the 1st Mask under Polokus's orders so that it not put into the wrong use.

Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava is a level in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. It is a continuation of the previous level, the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava as it is set inside the same temple, and it is where the third of Polokus' masks is really hidden. It is also the only level in the game in which Rayman can use his helicopter to fly. It is known as The Lava Sanctuary or The Sanctuary of Lava in Rayman Revolution.

This is an underground level which consists of long rivers of lava and thorny tunnels, which Rayman cannot pass without flying. At the beginning of the level, Ly the Fairy appears before him and grants him the power to use his helicopter to fly with a Silver Lum. Often throughout the level Rayman is blown away by giant fans, and he has to keep his flight under control to prevent damage to himself.

By the end of the level, he encounters Foutch, who knocks him down with such a forceful blow he loses his power, but then has to fight him. When Foutch is defeated, he is finally rewarded with the thrid mask. In Revolution, Rayman regains super helicopter power to fly above lava.

Original version
Phase 1
Rayman falls out of a Teensie portal from the ceiling into a room beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lav. He looks around the room, only to find that before him is a pit of lava, while above, there is a tunnel of thorns - either way, he is trapped. Rayman remains stumped, until Ly the Fairy appears to deliver good news and bad news. The good news is that she has gathered enough energy to create a Silver Lum, which gives him the power to fly with his Helicopter. The bad news is that his mission will be much harder. Finally, Ly will whisk herself away, leaving Rayman to try out his new power.

Underneath the spot Rayman is standing on, is a corridor with a cage at the end. Then Rayman will fly through the tunnel of thorns, shooting any thorny vines and shadow creatures that come in his way. Eventually, he will reach a safe spot to stand on, and to his left there is a giant fan. If he jumps and activates the Helicopter, he'll be blown away through more thorny tunnels, as well as having to dodge stone flame throwers. These thorny corridors and pits of lava will carry on, until he enters a room with falls of yellow lava, which is even more deadlier to come to contact with. He'll eventually arrive on safe ground again, and come across a stone coming from the ceiling with a slanted side. The trick is to shoot this side to rebound shots that will break the stone that is blocking the hole on the ground, which he'll finally descend.

Phase 2
Rayman will come across another fan which will blow him down a corridor with a river of lava, dodging yellow lava falls and then thorny thickets that try to block the passage. Eventually, there is a large opening on the walls of the thorns, in which two cages are found. Then he'll continue flying down the corridor, shooting away some thorny vines until he reaches a breakable stone door, which somehow opens up for him, but then shuts. Looking around for what to do next in this new room, Foutch, the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, creeps up on him from behind and delivers a forceful blow that sends the limbless hero down a pit of yellow lava.

Phase 3
Main article: Foutch

Still falling to the ground, Rayman realises that the blow had been so powerful that he cannot fly anymore, and the battle with Foutch begins. Rayman will have to run around the room, avoiding the Guardians columns and rows of fire, while using sheets of cobwebs to bounce up and shoot a stalactite from the ceiling to inflict damage. Once Foutch is defeated, a Purple Lum will be released, and used to reach higher ground, which finally leads to the Third Mask.
PlayStation version
This level bears much resemblance to that of the original version but with the following differences:
* Under the ledge which Rayman drops on, there are Yellow Lums, and the hidden room with the cage is now on the other side of the pit. The row of Red Lums on the other ledge is replaced with a Yellow Lum.
* Along the way in the thorny corridor in Phase 1, there is a cage hanging on the wall.
* The fourth and final cage is found under a log of thorns along the lava corridor in Phase 2, and the opening before Foutch's room is omitted.
* Before the battle with Foutch begins, the Guardian accuses Rayman of being the Mask thief, as well as being a liar when the limbless hero explains that he needs the Masks to rid the world of the Robo Pirates.
* The Third Mask has been moved on top of the high ground which can be reached with the Purple Lum.
While much of this level remains the same as that of the original, one difference is that rather than losing the Flying power completely, Ly will partially restore it so that Rayman can only fly over bodies of lava.
A Zombie Henchman is a near dead pirate which continues to walk despite severe damage to its components.
Description
Zombie Henchmen have a faded, torn yellow vest and a rusted hook that has almsot fallen off and hangs limply from the pirate's arm. Their eyes are both black and lifeless, and one of their feet are missing, causing them to walk with a limp.
Their guns no longer work, so they instead attack Rayman by exhaling clouds of toxic gas.
When first encounters them they appear to be useless pile of wreckage. However, if Rayman shoots them or gets too close, the zombie will rise and begin attacking. After taking enough damage they will return to their crumpled state, but will inevitably rise again unless struck by a fully powered energy ball.
Appearance
Zombie Henchamn appear only in Rayman 2: Revolution, and even then are quite rare. Two of them lie outside of the Pirate Factory, perhaps guarding it. Another two Zombie Henchman also appear when revisiting the Tomb of the Ancients.
