The Buccaneer is the massive Pirate Ship the Robo-Pirates used as a main base and in order to get to the Glade of Dreams.

Description
On the outside it looks like any normal Pirate Ship except much bigger and with a giant Robo-Pirate skull carved on the front. The inside has lots of wood, lava, technology and metalworks.
A huge of robo-pirates, led by Admiral Razorbeard, have captured and enslaved Rayman's world, and holds Rayman's friends in The Evil Buccaneer and The Prison Ship of Pirates. While battling against them, Rayman is captured by Ninjaws and Globox must find Ly to see if he can get a silver lum for Rayman. In the Intro of Rayman 2 for Dreamcast, instead of Ly's Voice, it's the Guy's Voice; Globox is evantually captured too, but he managed to smuggle a silver lum into the prison ship which restores Rayman back all his powers which Rayman can now escape from the Prison Ship and save his friends.
As if I, Andrew Smith, can make of a movie of Rayman 2: The Great Escape from Dreamcast; rated E for everyone, I can do a cast, voice actors, sound effects and music, which I can use and do on my own here and there on YouTube, I can use many different videos and default voices and use Microsoft Sam as the Narrator.

History
Polokus transported Rayman to the Buccaneer when all four masks were collected, while the General (who appeared in Tonic Trouble) sold the Grolgoth to Admiral Razorbeard. Rayman had to slide and fly his way through before he reached Razorbeard. Razorbeard lured Rayman to him by using Globox as bait. It worked, and the Admiral, in his new Grolgoth, fought Rayman. Rayman managed to damage him a little and Razorbeard tried to jump on Rayman, but ended up smashing the ground and plunging them both into the lava pool below. Rayman was saved by a Silver Lum sent by Ly, but the Grolgoth, being a machine, didn't need saving. Rayman managed to take control of a flying shell and defeat Razorbeard, but the Admiral left before blowing up the ship with Rayman in it. Rayman was thought dead as a result of the explosion but walked in on his own funeral.

Trivia
* At the beginning of the Prison Ship, The General from one of Michel Ancel's other games, Tonic Trouble, appears. He sells Razorbeard the Grolgoth.
* When you fight Razorbeard in the Crow's Nest, if you fly straight up at the ceiling while repeatedly pressing the jump and shoot button, you'll go through it and end up in a tunnel. If you fly through to the end of the tunnel, you'll be transported back to Razorbeard but with infinite shots.

Rayman Revolution (known in the United States as Rayman 2: Revolution) is an updated remake of Rayman 2: The Great Escape made specially as a launch title for the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2000. Several changes have been made for this version, notably the upgraded graphics, the inclusion of new worlds and mini-games, and the order of the gameplay. Its difficulty was also slightly higher than that of Rayman 2. Similar to the PlayStation version of Rayman 2, some levels were shaped differently or removed (e.g. The Echoing Caves).

New Features
Akin to games such as Sonic Adventure, the levels in Rayman Revolution are accessed via three new hub worlds: The Minisaurus Plain, Globox's House, and Rainbow Creek that allow free roaming, making this version a lot less linear than the previous versions. There are also new events, missions, and puzzles to accomplish. In addition, new characters are introduced such as Bzzit, and Rayman can acquire new powers, items and abilities, such as the ones he can buy with the Yellow Lums he collected at the Magic Well, an equivalent to the typical item shop.

Characters such as Ly, Clark, and the Teensies appear a lot more often in this version. Ly increases Rayman's health by offering minigames, which include the Walks of Power and Life and the roller coaster segment that was previously in the Top of the World, in exchange for the Familiar Spirits, a new kind of spirits that are trapped in the cages. Meanwhile, the Teensies host the Stone Circles, which allow Rayman to return to places he has already visited.

Powers and Items
The game requires a lot more backtracking than before to collect the rest of the Lums that Rayman could not reach for the first time. Objects such as cannons, beacons, plants and mushrooms appear throughout the game, and need Rayman to gain his new powers and special items (such as the Rain Mask) in order to use them. A notable difference between the previous versions is that Rayman is not granted with the shooting power at the beginning, but is simply given the ability to punch, though he is shortly given the shooting power by the Teensies. As Rayman progresses, his shots get much stronger thanks to Silver Lums, until he can produce a shot that is as powerful as an exploding grenade.

Later in the game, Rayman is given some items to help him, such as the Rain Mask, which performs a Rain Dance like Globox's and helps plants to grow, and the Lums Radar, which is a magnet that can help him find any Yellow Lums that he may have missed. Reminiscing the original Rayman, Rayman can be shrunk to help him squeeze through small holes by eating mushrooms that he can water with the Rain Dance.

Unlike the previous versions, Rayman can keep his flying power, which he lost beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, conditionally - he can only use it whenever he is flying above any body of lava.

Glitches
This is a list of some of the most notable glitches in the game, among others.

List of glitches
Walking Shell Sound - If you turn up or turn down the sound effects volume in the options menu, you hear different sounds. One of them is a walking shell sound. If you hear it while turning up the volume, try holding the 'right' button, and exit the pause menu. The sound will continue.

Helicoptering Off the Front:
1. Go to the Teensie Circle in Globox's House.
2. Stand on the rickety wooden bridge nearby.
3. Make Rayman jump off the bridge at the highest altitude and speed as possible.
4. At the top of the jump, begin to helicopter.
5. Continue helicoptering forwards as though you want to reach the distant mountains.
6. The screen will turn a light blue, but continue helicoptering forwards.
7. The screen will return to normal, but Rayman is now jet black.
8. You can now helicopter all the way down to the forest and rivers below, but Rayman will go straight through them.
9. If you do, the screen will turn blue again, but Rayman will still be visible, jet black.
10. You can continue to helicopter forever if you wish.
11. While helicoptering at any point in this glitch, if you stop helicoptering for around two seconds or more, you will fall and die.

Flying First-Person View - It often happens when you run through the door that leads to where you meet Clark, in the Menhir Hills. In View mode, you can fly around the level, and you can even leave it, and fly out to "Orange World". This also allows Rayman to run around in the walking shell tracks. It is still unknown as to how exactly it is performed.

Air Swimming - This is notably easier to perform than some others:
1. Go to the Skull Cave.
2. Use the flying helicopter power to hover over the lava.
3. Go through the rock over the entrance.
4. Land in the water, right outside the big cave you see.
5. You can now swim around in the air. However, given that the game sees it as swimming, Rayman will eventually die due to a "lack of air".

Rayman Goes Insane - Perform the air swimming glitch and fly/swim to the entrance of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire. Fly as high as you can, or Rayman will just enter the level normally. If you do it right, it should look like this:
Link!
After a long time, Rayman will start leaving the screen, but he will come back later, and start flying through the rock.

This is where Rayman rescues Carmen the Whale from the Robo-Pirates who planned to use her blubber for fuel. She then takes him to a grounded ship, or to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice in the PlayStation version, where he will fight Axel and find the first mask of Polokus.

Original version
Whale Bay is the first level in the game to feature Barrel Pirates--however, fighting these powerful enemies is avoidable.

The first half of Whale Bay takes place in the Whale Bay Fortress, with Rayman attempting to locate the prison where Carmen the Whale is being held. In some versions of the game, one area in particular has respawning Robo-Pirates, making for some interesting challenges.

The second half of Whale Bay revolves around the lake itself, and Rayman's attempts to free Carmen the Whale. After Carmen is freed, Rayman must follow Carmen into the extensive underwater cave network of Whale Bay, using Carmen's bubbles for air (considering the Piranhas don't reach them first). Carmen leads Rayman to a secret grotto, where the remains of a submarine mark the way for escape. In most versions of Rayman 2, the level closes with Rayman exitting a beached ship, sliding down a watery slope, and evading an Ape Pirate.
PlayStation version
In the PS version of Rayman 2, Whale Bay follows the Bayou level instead of the Canopy. The level is notably more difficult than in any other version, requiring the player to battle many camouflaged Barrel Pirates where in other versions the player would have just had to journey through respawning pirates and not have to fight any Barrel Pirates.

Carmen's journey is also majorly different, to a story-changing degree. Instead of taking Rayman to a grounded ship, she takes him to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. The sanctuary is intact and features a mixed environment of water and ice, though it is slightly more predominant on the water side. It is much more like the later sanctuaries in either version.

As such, the boss of Whale Bay in the PS version is Axel, the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Whale Bay's rendition is also unique in that it is the only appearance of Axel's to have dialogue.
Revolution adds a connection between the Canopy and Whale Bay levels, compared to the odd linear connection in the other versions. In Revolution, Rayman must rescue Globox from the Canopy; otherwise, one of the Baby Globoxes will not help Rayman elude the Robo-Pirates guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. Rayman in addition profits from rescuing Carmen--Carmen then devours the thorny root blocking the entrance to the nearby Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

Original version
Before entering the Cave, Rayman has to remember the name of it, as Clark tells him in the Menhir Hills, otherwise Jano will shoo him away. In this version of the game, it is found by walking on a giant branch to Rayman's left at the beginning of the Marshes of Awakening, until he sees Jano standing behind walls of cobwebs. Provided that he reads that Rayman knows the name of this place, he will shake his skull headed stick which hypnotises Rayman and teleports him to the inside of the Cave.

Phase 1
Down the backbone of a gigantic animal, there is a Purple Lum to grab to cross a wide gap with rivers of living thorns at the bottom. Skulls fall down into this, and Rayman uses them to get across some more, as well as climbing on walls with bones embedded into them. Then there is a wide hole in which a skeletal clawed hand pops out to grab Rayman and pull him into the unknown, but that can be prevented by shooting at them. After that, there are three pillars with climbable bones that sink as soon as Rayman grabs on.

Down the next corridor which is riddled with more skeletal hands, there is a double wall Rayman can wall jump inside of, but from time to time they space themselves out so he can't climb up, and then close in. At the top, there is now a chasm, and on a wide edge there is a gold pedestal, like the one found in the Sanctuary of Water and Ice guarded by Mini Janos. About four to six of these appear, two at a time, and they all need to be defeated in order for the matching Magic Sphere to appear. Once they join, the pedestal moves and Rayman has to drop down the hole it reveals.

Now there are two more pedestals, which surround a carving on the wall that looks like the one-eyed monsters Rayman had just encountered. To his left is a ledge that leads to two passages to choose from - each one is where a Magic Sphere can be found. The silver sphere is found in the passage of the left, the gold one to the right. In the silver chamber, there are giant slabs of stone that rotate on top of tall rocks, which Rayman needs to cross and throw the sphere back and then carry it to its correct pedestal. In the gold chamber, there is a skull supported by a skeletal arm, which moves Rayman across the gap to the other side. Another moving double wall is passed through onto another moving skull, which leads to a series of pillars that are teeming with shadow creatures. Near them is a skull that moves upwards to a ledge where the gold sphere is found. This chamber is circular, so all Rayman needs to do is throw it down a few ledges rather than going all the way back. When both of the spheres are placed on their pedestals, the carving opens up by the mouth, and Rayman drops down a hole that is covered fragile shards of green crystal.

Phase 2
Rayman is now in a passage with a slope covered with shining green crystal, and then Jano reappears from underground, threatening to eat him. So he now has to slide down, shooting any crystal growths that are in his way - if he slides too slowly, Jano will eat him, causing him to respawn at the beginning. At the end, he will enter a chasm where he has to avoid the fire that Jano breathes, just like his smaller counterparts. Jano will then generate floating skulls which can be stopped by Rayman's shots, and then he can jump from them to get to where Jano is standing. Jano, who is invincible, will keep breathing fire and generating skulls until he is chased to the far end of the chasm by Rayman, and then dig himself underground, allowing the limbless hero to walk into a chamber piled with treasure.

A single coin is flicked and rolls to his feet, and Jano them offers him all this treasure to keep for himself. There are two options to choose from - "I want the treasure", and "No treasure for me". The former is obviously the greedy choice, but if Rayman chooses that, he will be taken to a small deserted island where he gains a drastic amount of weight, and lazes in a deckchair with a fraction of his gold surrounding him. This scene pretends to be an ending, with the words "THE END" appearing, but then it returns to Rayman's decision. Rejecting the treasure, he is teleported back to the Marshes of Awakening, and congratulated by Jano for not being greedy. As a reward, Jano gives him the Elixer of Life to take to Clark back at the Menhir Hills.
PlayStation version
In this version of the game, the Cave of Bad Dreams is not a sub level, but a true level that follows the Menhir Hills. This means that Rayman will not need to travel back to the Marshes of Awakening to find the cave's entrance.

Phase 1
While there is still a backbone, it has been split to different platforms to run and jump across. Much of this part of the phase remains the same, but instead of the moving double wall, there are three Purple Lums to use to get to the top of chasm in which the Mini Janos roam. There are only two of these, but they have a much stronger resistance than those in the original version.

Phase 2
In this version of the game, Phase 2 begins at the two pedestals and the one eyed monster carving on the wall. Much of this area stays the same as that in the original version, except for the appearance of bouncing eyes - previously seen at the entrance of the Cave in the Marshes of Awakening - in the gold passage.

Phase 3
In this phase, Rayman is chased by Jano down the green crystal slide, which remains the same as that in the original version.

Phase 4
The confrontation with Jano begins, where he will use the same techniques - breathing fire and generating skulls - as before. The only differences here is that some pillars will fall when Rayman steps on them. At the end, he will automatically refuse the treasure, which convinces Jano to give him the Elixir of Life.
PlayStation 2 version
In this version of the game, the Cave of Bad Dreams is located at the end of the Marshes of Awakening, which should only be visited once Clarks tells Rayman the name of the Cave. Apart from graphical enhancements, much of this level remains the same as before, though there are no Yellow Lums to collect. There is also an extra ledge in the chasm with the first gold pedestal, on which more of the Mini Janos roam. Defeating these does not reveal anything.

Unlike the previous versions, in which the Cave can be revisited, it can only be visited once, and Jano will not be at the end of the Marshes to take Rayman back in again because there are no Yellow Lums.

The Cave Of Bad Dreams has in fact, bats, long arms which will grab you and pull you in their holes, and Mini Janos that will eat you if you get too close.

In the GBC adaptation, the Cave of Bad Dreams directly follows Whale Bay, and this is where Rayman gets the Super-Heli from Ly the Fairy.

The Mini Janos (currently not an official name as of yet) are enemies that are encountered only in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes. They are one-eyed round monsters with skeletal arms that are found mostly in the Cave of Bad Dreams, which is guarded by their much larger counterpart, Jano, though a few more appear at a certain point in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

Strategy
Mini Janos mainly attack by breathing fire, and they often attempt to avoid Rayman when they look each other in the eye while attacking. Like Jano, they can dig underground, and they usually make their ambush at what seems to be a dead end, and there is usually more than one to defeat. Should Rayman get too close to them, they will grab and devour him, counting as a death and respawning Rayman. If they seem to gang up at a dead end, all of them need to be defeated in order to reveal a secret item, usually a plum or a Magic sphere. They in fact are little and don't have the stylish hat. If you get too close, they'll eat you, so try not to get close to them.
