Early in its development, Rayman 2: The Great Escape was intended to be a 2D game, which would have been very similar to Rayman in terms of graphics and gameplay. This 2D game would have been released for the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation.

The game would have had a much stronger similarity to the original game that the final version did. The art style would have remained very similar to that of the first game. As would the gameplay, with a few notable additions.

All of the characters would have been limbless. Betilla, and possibly other Rayman characters, would have returned.

According to the EGM article, the game was due for release in the late Autumn of 1996.

It is unknown exactly how near the game was to completion, but it seems that its music had not yet been composed when the game was scrapped. However, EGM's article on the game stated that "it's already in a fairly advanced state - expect to see a preview next month".

Gameplay Mechanics
Rayman's telescopic fist would have been able to fly around more freely, and with greater momentum; punching and jumping in a certain way would even cause the fist to circle Rayman completely.

One new platforming element was the addition of a 'cowardly' platform, which would shrink away from Rayman in fear should he approach it. Punching the platform would create a sparkling connection between it and Rayman, which would prevent it from escaping while the connection endured. Very similar-looking (though otherwise completely different) platforms were found in the Game Boy Color version of Rayman. Perhaps the most significant alteration to the gameplay was that the levels were now two-layered; there was both a background and foreground. Enemies in the background could fire projectiles at Rayman while he was in the foreground, Rayman would be able to teleport himself between layers by activating a device that resembled a shower with a toilet-handle attached. This background-foreground system was quite similar to the one found in the games Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.

Another new addition to the game were floating, purple bombs. These explosives could be moved around the area by Rayman's punches, but would detonate upon contact with Rayman or each other.

Another new object was a small floating box with a hand protruding from it; some of these boxes floated stationary, but others moved horizontally or vertically. When Rayman punched the hand, his fist would bounce off it; this would allow Rayman's fist to reach otherwise unaccessible spots, such as an out-of-the-way life statue, or let him his a floating bomb from another angle. It was even possible for the fist to be bounced around between multiple floating hands.

Tings would have appeared in the game; unlike the sparkling, blue Tings of the original game, these Tings would have been silvery and metallic, and reflected their surroundings, like small convex mirrors.

Life statues would also have returned.

Exit signs would have returned.

Red flying rings would have returned, although, strangely, they functioned the same as purple ones, in that they did not sink when Rayman grappled them.

Plot
The plot of the canceled game was probably similar to that of the final Rayman 2. While the canceled game seems to have featured worlds and characters more similar to those of the first game than the final Rayman 2, it appears that the game's story still revolved around Rayman and his friends fighting against an invading army of robots. Betilla the Fairy is shown locked behind bars in one image; presumably, this would have happened at some point in the game, and Rayman would have had to rescue her. The General would have been involved in the game's story, and probably would have played a much larger role than he did in the final version. It has been speculated that he was the game's villain, and was replaced by Razorbeard in the final game.

Enemies
*Pre-Henchman 800 - The primary enemies of the game were what was ultimately replaced by the Henchmen 800 in the final version. These were limbless, orange-coloured robotic soldiers, whose bodies were of a similar shape to that of the General. In their floating right hands, they held musket-like guns, which they could use to fire projectiles at Rayman (they could even fire at him from the background if he was in the foreground). The projectiles were similar to those fired by Space Mama from her rolling pin.

*Pre-Robot Dinosaur - Another enemy would have been a tall robotic dinosaur, which patrolled back and forth, breathing fire at Rayman if he came to close to it. Rayman could jump on the dinosaur's back if it was facing away from him, then flatten its metal head with his fists. The head could then be used as platform - that it, until the dinosaur recovered several seconds later. The Robot Dinosaur which Rayman encountered in the final version may have been inspired by this enemy.

*Flying pre-Robot Dinosaur - This game would also have featured winged, flying versions of the robotic dinosaurs; their 3D model was shown in a promotional video. Very little is known about them.

*Grenadier - These were limbless enemies, which seem to have been robots, wearing deranged smiles, with several large, red grenades strapped to their bodies. They were covered in soot from the explosions they caused, and had what looked like a sparadrap on their shoulder. The idea for these enemies seems to have been recycled somewhat by the Hoodbooms in Rayman 3.

*Grasshopper - This was a green, limbless, grasshopper-like enemy; it may have been just another part of the robot invasion, but it also could also have been the moths from the first Rayman game returning.

*Pink robot - A pink, yellow-eyed, limbless robot, with a resemblance to both the pre-Robot Dinosaur and the pre-Henchman 800. Nearly nothing is known about this enemy.

*Chainsaw-wielder - A green, chainsaw-wielding, limbless robot, with a resemblance to the pre-Henchman 800 mentioned above. This appears to have been a powerful enemy, and may have even been a boss.

*The General - This character was initially set to appear in the 2D Rayman 2, but made only a cameo in the final 3D version, in which he sold the Grolgoth robot to Admiral Razorbeard. The General also appeared in the intro sequence of the PC version of Tonic Trouble. His willingness to allow Razorbeard access to the powerful Grolgoth so that he can destroy Rayman, as well as his appearance in a promotional video for the 2D Rayman 2, implies that the General may have originally been intended as an evil character for the game, possibly even the main villain.

*Monocle-wearer - This pale, grinning, evil-looking robot is shown in one image wearing a monocle on one eye and clutching a cage between two fingers. His role in the game is uncertain.

Playable PlayStation level
In the final 3D Sony PlayStation version of Rayman 2, the player can unlock a single level from the canceled 2D version of Rayman 2. This is done by collecting 90% of the Yellow Lums, then completing the Crow's Nest level. Since the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 has only 800 Yellow Lums to collect, the player only needs to collect 720 of them in order to access the level. The level takes place in a grassy environment with strange rock formations in the background, in addition to a cloudy, purple sky.

An inspection of the files on the disc of the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 reveals a file called RAY.INF, which contains only the following French text:

///RayMan 2 PlayStation/version:01.12d/date:31 mai 1996/gravure:Vincent Greco/demande:equipe RM2 Sony/destinataire:equipe RM2 Sony/usage perso/derniere version/

Its meaning is unclear.

Tonic Trouble is a game that was developed by UbiSoft Montréal, initially to test the 3D engines used by Rayman 2: The Great Escape. It is notable for featuring limbless characters akin to the earlier Rayman games although it is actually set on Earth; in fact, one of these characters appears as a cameo at a very late point in Rayman 2, along with a Rayman cameo in Tonic Trouble's end credits. It was released for the Nintendo 64, PC and Game Boy Color (only in Europe) in 1999.

Plot
The game follows the story of Ed, a small and clumsy member of a purple limbless alien species, who works as a janitor during a voyage through space, on a craft called The Albatross. Ed is voiced by David Gasman, who also voices Rayman in Rayman 2, Rayman M and Rayman 3. During one shift, Ed comes across a strange can and drinks its contents. He doesn't like the taste, and spits the fluid out, causing any object it came to contact with to come to life, forcing him to throw it down a chute which sends it falling to Earth. The fluid's effects on the Earth's environment cause chaos, and the can falls into the hands of a Viking called Grogh, who becomes more powerful upon drinking from it.

Ed faces a trial in court, and as punishment for his carelessness, he is sent to Earth to clean up the mess. During his journey there, his own spaceship malfunctions and ends up crashing into a snowy mountainous area on Earth, which is now roaming with mutant killer vegetables and balloon sheep. Eventually he meets a doctor and his daughter, Suzy, who offer to help him by giving him weapons and powers in exchange for small things such as springs and propellers used by the Doc to build a machine.

Gameplay
The game sticks very closely to the formula found in the first Rayman. Much like in Rayman 1, Ed starts off defenseless and acquires new weapons and powerups throughout the game. Also, each stage includes 6 objects that Ed must collect in order to properly complete it. The main difference between the two games is that Tonic Trouble is in 3D, and some stages in the game focus more on puzzle solving than platforming. In addition to the 6 objects in each stage, Ed must also collect 120 antidotes hidden throughout the levels and Southern Plains hub map in order to access the Magic Mushrooms Lair late in the game (akin to needing all of the Electoons to enter Candy Château in Rayman 1).

Characters
* Vegetable HQ
* Pressure Cooker
* Magic Mushroom's Hideout
* Grogh's Castle

Music
The music in Tonic Trouble was composed by Éric Chevalier who also did the soundtrack to Rayman 2. The soundtrack is very eclectic and experimental in nature. In one portion of the game bagpipes, a rhythm guitar, a beat boxer and a synthesizer can be heard at the same time. The music was intended to be interactive and would change depending on the mood Ed was feeling in each room, but in the final version of the PC game each track is a long suite of sorts.

Ed also has his own short jingle "theme" that can be heard in some of the tracks that sounds almost like the inverse of Rayman's theme from Rayman 2.

Beta Version
Early in 1999, a beta version of Tonic Trouble called "Tonic Trouble Special Edition" was released with some computers. The game is barely the same to its final counterparts on the PC and Nintendo 64 featuring different level designs and in some cases music. Ed controls much differently and feels heavier due to a less precise jump and tank-like controls. Unlike in the final PC version, there are no subtitles and some characters have different voice actors. The beta version also has different names for some of the stages, and features a world map that can be brought up to check the player's progress on the collectibles in each stage.

Beta-Only Enemies
Trigger Happy Henchman
This henchman is the first one you find in the Canyon. He will repeatedly spray a shower of bullets in Ed's direction, and ocassionaly take a short break from firing. Takes three hits from the stick or one hit from the blowdart pipe to be defeated.
Flamethrower Henchman
This henchman can be found in the Canyon guarding a full health powerup. While flying with his propeller hat he does not try to harm Ed, but when he lands he'll fire a long stream of fire in Ed's general direction. Takes three hits from the stick or one hit from the blowdart pipe to be defeated.
Mushroom Caps
The UFO-like mushroom caps hover over long stretches of lava in the Canyon. If they spot Ed they will fly to whereever he was standing when spotted and explode. If Ed moves out of the way while a mushroom cap is flying towards him, he can avoid the cap's attack entirely. Mushroom Caps cannot be harmed.

The Grape
The Grape appears during the end credits of the beta version of Tonic Trouble. It can be seen rearranging itself into various shapes such as a tank or a cube. One of of the Grape's grapes has a heart on it. It is currently unknown if this enemy actually shows up in a stage of the beta version.

Characters

Academy of Champions is a soccer game created by Ubisoft and released in 2009. Rayman and the Rabbids are playable characters in the game, plus a single Rabbid runs the item shop.

Story
Our hero is a new student in the prestigious Brightfield Academy, a renowned soccer school for kids from around the world which teaches the true meaning of the sport to its students. Teamwork, Friendship and Respect are the key values that Headmaster Pelé shares.

That said, competition at Brightfield is high, and the hero must form a team to stay in school and follow his goal to become a pro.

Our hero's potential is obvious, and this had not been missed by the beady eyes of Von Trappe, the headmaster of the rival Scythemore Academy, an institution that instills in its students the ideal of winning at all costs, even if this involves overt aggression or cheating.

Von Trappe puts a plan into action to bring our talented hero to Scythemore, but Pelé is wise to his trickery, ultimately outwits him and saves our hero from the hardship of spending more than one term at Von Trappe's brutal academy.

Safely back at Brightfield and with Headmaster Pelé and fellow student Mia Hamm's help, our hero is free to concentrate on winning the Academy Championships, graduation and a dream ticket to professional soccer.

The Grand Minimus are four Teensies from Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution (to a lesser extent), Rayman M (in which two are playable), and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. They are notable for ruling the Teensie race and overseeing the Hall of Doors/the Isle of Doors/Teensie Circles. As a general rule, the Grand Minimus' main role in Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 occurs at the end of the first world.

Description
The Grand Minimus was originally composed of the King of the Teensies and three other Teensies assumably of relation to the king (such as friends, advisors, relatives, etc.; their relation is never given). However, after Admiral Razorbeard locked them up in the Forest of Light the Minimus soon forgot which one was the king. In fact, not even the king himself could remember! The Minimus later decided that, being as it was nearly impossible to determine who was king, all four would rule over the Teensies.

The Grand Minimus live deep in the Fairy Council, though they have been known to travel to the Forest of Light every now and then.

All four of the Minimus wear refined green robes, and at least one has a tall crown on his head. As seen in Rayman 2: Revolution, the Grand Minimus have a talkative personality and enjoy gossiping about recent news. Also, it is seen in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc that the Minimus have a taste for disco, and enjoy the company of a disco ball and many other disco-loving subjects in their chamber, dancing day and night.

In Rayman 2, it is soon confirmed that the Grand Minimus are the guardians of the Hall of Doors, assigned by Polokus himself after being created for that purpose. They are wise and powerful, though they seldom show it. Similar to Ly the Fairy, at least one member of the Grand Minimus is capable of creating Silver Lums. One is used by the Grand Minimus in Rayman 2, while a second is additionally used in Revolution. As may be seen in Rayman 3, the Grand Minimus also have the responsibility of guarding the Heart of the World, which resides in their throne room.

Role in the Games
Rayman 2
The Grand Minimus makes their debut appearance when Rayman destroys the cage at the end of the Forest of Light. Rayman hopes to ask them as to the whereabouts of Ly the Fairy, but is unsuccessful as the Minimus is distracted by the fact that they are unable to agree on who the real king is. After repeatedly grabbing the single crown from eachother's head and declaring to be king, Rayman gets frustrated and interrupts their clammor. Intimidated and worrisome as to Ly's bad news, the Teensies hush immediately and hesitantly back away. The last Teensie standing forward is quickly handed the crown.

Rayman 2/Rayman DS
The king then gives Rayman the bad news about Ly, but explains that Ly is being held nearby in the Fairy Glade. If Rayman has already collected five Yellow Lums, he will have collected enough energy to revitalize the king's magic powers. However, if Rayman is missing just one Lum, the king will send Rayman back to get the rest.

Magic restored, the king gives Rayman a good-bye speech before creating a Silver Lum. The Silver Lum drops down into a nearby abyss and explodes into a giant Magic Spiral Door. Rayman leaps into the door and leaves the Teensies.

Rayman next encounters the Grand Minimus as he enters the Sanctuary of Water and Ice level (Whale Bay in the PS Version). By now, the Grand Minimus have done some thinking, and have decided that all four would share being king. Standing in a line, each king would say a few sentences before walking to the end of the line as the next Teensie takes the crown and then takes his turn being king. Considering Rayman has enough Lums, the Grand Minimus open the doors to the Sanctuary. This sequence occurs again before the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire and Sanctuary of Rock and Lava levels.

The Grand Minimus is last seen in the final scene following the Crow's Nest.

Rayman 2: Revolution
Following acquisition of the crown, the king explains that both Globox and Ly the Fairy were captured by the Robo-Pirate Army. The Grand Minimus hasn't the slightest clue where Globox is, but believe that the Teensie at the Minisaurus Plains' Teensie Circle knows where Ly was taken. Considering Rayman has five Yellow Lums collected, the king produces what appears to be a Silver Lum and sends it towards Rayman. Rayman then excitedly learns the magic fist ability. The king hops onto a pedestal and produces a second Silver Lum, which drops into a nearby void. The Lum explodes and turns into a Magic Spiral Door. After giving a farewell speech, the Grand Minimus sends Rayman off to the Front.

In Rayman Revolution, three crowned Teensies attend to the three Teensie Circles, and another three attend to the three Magic Wells. The one who attends to the Circle in Rainbow Creek is referred to a "the King of the Teensies" by the in-game instructions which appear when the player presses the Select button on the PlayStation 2 controller.

Rayman M/Rayman Rush
Two of the four Teensies in the Grand Minimus participate in the races and battles of Rayman M as one of the initial playable characters. Being that Teensies are considerably short, the two Teensies race by carrying one on top of the other. Rayman M was the first game to give the sovereign Teensies the name "Grand Minimus."

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
In Rayman 3, the Grand Minimus make their brief appearance at the end of the Fairy Council world. Rayman chases Andre and eventually arrives at their throne room, only to find it full of dancing Teensies and flashing disco lights. At the other end of the room, the Grand Minimus have Globox in their clutches. As Rayman approaches them, the Minimus tell him that Globox cannot stay in the throne room for fear that Andre could escape. To save Globox, the Grand Minimus open a portal to the Teensie Highway and explain to Rayman that he must take Globox to the Teensie Doctor in the Clearleaf Forest.

Look-Alikes
In Revolution and Rayman 3, similar-looking crowned Teensies make frequent appearances. It is generally regarded that this is not the Minimus, as there are more crowned Teensies than there are in the Minimus. However, it is unknown how the Crowned Teensies are related to the Grand Minimus.

Trivia
*Of all the characters in Rayman 2, the Grand Minimus undergo the greatest voice change between the PS version of Rayman 2 and Revolution. In the PS Rayman 2, they sound like wise old men, while in Revolution they have high-pitched, squeaky voices.
*Rayman 2s Grand Minimus theme song includes ceaseless murmurs by the Teensies, subtly indicating the talkative personality further explored in Revolution.
*Rayman 3s Grand Minimus theme song reflects the music style of the American 60s.

Teensies are small creatures who comprise a large percentage of the Glade of Dreams' sentient population. They are frequently encountered in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution, and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

Description
Teensies have pale blue-grey skin and a characterized by their faces, which generally appear quite large due to their long, drooping noses that overlap their grinning mouths and chins. Their noses have elegant spiral markings that are cyan in color, though these markings are only vaguely noticeable until Rayman M. Teensies have beady black eyes and small, mitten-like hands that lack any fingers other than thumbs. They are short compared to most of the Glade's denizens, and so will stand on top of one another to look bigger.

The Teensies were created by Polokus to oversee the many passages of the world. As such, Teensies have an excellent sense of direction and know many secret paths. Their greatest secret is the longest shortcut hidden somewhere in the world. Many Teensies have the ability to create portals that use the Hall of Doors to quickly link distant locations to one another. Teensies are magical creatures by birth, and as such are able to create Silver Lums like the fairies. They are very wise, and are powered by Yellow Lums, to open doors.

The many Teensies are collectively ruled by the Grand Minimus, who reside deep within the Fairy Council.

The Teensie race is a diverse one, and the personality and dialect of a Teensie widely depends on where it comes from. In general, many Teensies are talkative and fun-loving creatures who have a taste for disco. The Teensies have forgotten which of them is their king, as many are very old and absent-minded, they will perform acrobatic dance moves to make themselves stand out, and make the young one's 'green with envy'.

Female Teensies have yet to make an appearance in any game so far, and so it is unknown how similar they are to their male counterparts. Female Teensies are only subtly alluded to in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, in which some Teensies will grumble about needing to attend to their children (of which also have never appeared in any game). Though there exists the possibility that Teensies are hermaphroditic, it is generally regarded that the existence of Teensie wives is more likely, unless they are overlooked.

Role in the Game
Rayman 2/Revolution/Rayman DS
Rayman 3
In Rayman 3, most Teensies have taken the role previously held by Electoons in Rayman and Denys, Ludivs, Greenbottles, etc. in the many versions of Rayman 2. Though a few Teensies such as the Grand Minimus and the Teensie Doctors have a role in the game's plot and are found elsewhere, most Teensies are found by destroying a cage. If Rayman destroys enough cages in a world, his HP Bar will increase its maximum capacity.
"Figures. They're raiding the Fairy Council! Enough is enough. I was told that after Rayman 2 I'd be cast as a tormented artist who falls for a girl with great big... uh, eyes. And here I am, playing sidekick again in a low-budget flick. Yeesh!" - Murfy, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

Murfy (sometimes spelled as Murphy) is a character who made his début in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and later appears for a short while in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. He serves as a flying encyclopedia, and it is his job to provide as much information about the world to Rayman as he can, as well as teaching him how to train and perform his moves. In the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 he does not do this, as it seems that a number of his kind are prisoners found in cages.

Character Description
Murfy is a small flying creature with a green head, and despite his frog-like appearance, he is actually a greenbottle, a sort of fly, as revealed in the instruction booklet of Rayman 3. He always sports a huge cheesy grin showing large teeth, and is always dressed in green, yellow and purple clothes, almost identical of that of the Grand Minimus Teensies. In his appearance in Rayman 3 he had undergone a number of changes, such as his hands and eyes which are now much bigger than in Rayman 2, and his wings have become more fly-like. His clothes have also been slightly changed, notably his shoes which are elf-like. He also appears to have fingers and legs now, unlike the previous game.

The greenbottles are known to play practical jokes, and that alot of Ludiv's have fallen victim to their pranks, and have been stripped of their glasses.

Videogame Appearances
Rayman 2
In all versions of Rayman 2 except for the Playstation and Gameboy Color versions, Murfy seems to be an innocent character that plays as a guide for Rayman, giving him instructions on how to pull off his moves while going through the Woods of Light. All around the world there are Stones of Thought. If Rayman stands next to one of these for a while and thinks, Murfy will come back to him and repeat his instructions.

Rayman Revolution
Murfy's job as an instructor is a little more looked into at the beginning of Rayman Revolution, as there is an extra stage after the Woods of Light in which he teaches Rayman how to swim and how to shoot, using a scarecrow as his first target.

Rayman 3
Murfy later appears in Rayman 3, and this time he carries a manual (a purple booklet with a picture of the original Rayman's face on it and the circle on the front of Rayman's torso on the inside), which he reads from instead of passing his own knowledge to Rayman. He develops a more cocky personality than before, and often rants about how he is stuck with being a sidekick, as well as giving witty comments and sarcastic remarks about the Manual as Rayman goes through the Fairy Council. In this game, he is voiced by Billy West, who had also voiced Rayman in the Animated Series four years earlier. Unlike Rayman 2, in which he can appear anywhere in the game which has a Stone of Thought, Murfy leaves at the Heart of the World.

Other games
Murfy also makes brief appearances in many handheld Rayman games, such as Rayman 3 for the GBA and Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, in which he overviews the games' instructions as before. In the GBA version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, he is sent to help Rayman escape from his cell.

Cameos
* Although Murfy is in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids as a guide, his face can also be seen in the 'Shoot a Rabbid' minigames.
* Murfy also appears in Rayman Arena as a reporter/paparazzi in cutscenes that play before each new cup is played.
* In Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, Murfy has the default third highest score on each minigame, scoring 6000 on each.
Rayman M: Multiplayer (known as Rayman Arena outside of Europe) is a multiplayer spin-off game based on Rayman 2: The Great Escape. In Europe, it was released only on the Sony PlayStation 2 and PC on the 30th November 2001, while in the United States it was released on the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube in addition to the PlayStation 2 and PC. It is a 3D game which combines racing, battling, and a few traditional platform elements. Unlike the other Rayman games, this game does not have a notable plot, other than that the characters are in a sporting competition.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Rayman M is split into two main modes, Racing and Battle.

Racing Mode
In this mode, the players take part in a foot race and face a number of obstacles depending on which environment they are playing in. There are no power-ups in this mode, although throughout each course there are Purple Lums, speed ramps and small trampolines that are useful. This mode has four different types of racing game. Obstacles include boxes that the player has to shoot up to eight times in order to pass, bear traps and electric bars.

* Training: This mode allows the player to explore the course and practice before playing in the other modes, as well as setting their own personal records. Only a single player can play in this mode.
* Race: This mode involves up to four characters to race each other, the first one to the finish line wins. In single player mode, the other players are computer controlled and there are three laps to run, while in multi-player mode the players can set how many laps to run before winning.
* Popolopoï: This mode uses a time limit in which a character must complete three laps in. Although the time starts at 20 seconds, the time can be increased by shooting small butterflies called Popolopoï, which come in different colours that represent how much time is given. Only a single player can play in this mode.
*Lums: In this mode, the player has to complete three laps while collecting the number of Yellow Lums required in order to legally win, which can be used at later points of the game. Only a single player can play in this mode.

Battle Mode
Rather than an obstacle course, the Battle mode is made up of an arena in which characters run around playing three different modes. Unlike the Race mode, this mode uses power-ups.

* Lum Spring: In the mode, the player has to collect as many Lums (which unusually look like crystals this time) as they can in order to reach the winning conditions - in a typical game, this is up to five Lums - or before the time runs out. To help him or her prevent the opponents from reaching them first, they are equipped with ice bullets to freeze them, thought the others' shots have to be avoided.

* Lum Fight: Each player starts with five hit points each, and the player has to knock all of the opponents' hit points in order to score Lums. Each time a player dies, they respawn somewhere else in the arena. A negative Lum is given to a player that loses to a self-infliction. Various power-ups called Generators are scattered around, and contain a different weapon to use against opponents. Uses the same winning conditions as Lum Spring.

* Capture the Fly: This game is similar to tag - the player has to find a Light Fly and keep hold of it as long as possible without getting hit by an opponent's shot. The character is equipped with five bounce bullets which are only effective on the player in possession of the Fly. The player that reaches the winning conditions first wins.

Environment
The game is set in the same environmental universe as Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and consist of four different worlds for each mode, each with three stages. The world the players play in also determines the difficulty of the game, going from Beginner to Advanced. As the player progresses, the harder difficulties are unlocked. Many of the worlds in Rayman M that resemble locations from Rayman 2 include Ly's Palace, which resembles the Sanctuary of Water and Ice, and the Dark Sewers, which are reminiscent of the Tomb of the Ancients.

Characters
At the start of the game, five characters are available, and as the player progresses through the game, they'll unlock the remaining characters as well as skins for them. Each character has their own musical theme in the Racing mode, and have their own method of gliding, though they all shoot the same way Rayman does.

*Rayman: The star of the game. He has one unlockable skin only in Rayman Arena.
*Globox: Rayman's best friend, who joined the competition to overcome his shyness (unlike other games he apeared in, he is not scared of the bad guys). He has three unlockable skins.
*Teensies: A pair of Grand Minimus Teensies. They have three unlockable skins.
*Admiral Razorbeard: The irritable lord of the Robo-Pirate Army.
*Henchman 800: One of the Robo-Pirates from Rayman 2, particularly of the Red variety. He has three unlockable skins.
*Tily: A small Fairy speculated to have replaced Ly the Fairy. Tily must be unlocked.
*Razorwife: Admiral Razorbeard's flamboyant wife. Razorwife must be unlocked.
*Henchman 1000: An older Robo-Pirate model. Henchman 1000 must be unlocked. He has three unlockable skins.
*Dark Globox: An eviler, dumber, uglier, and certainly ruder version of Globox. Dark Globox only appears in "Rayman Arena" and must be unlocked.
*Dark Rayman: Mr Dark's evil doppleganger from Rayman. Dark Rayman only appears in the Gamecube and Xbox version of Rayman Arena and must be unlocked. He is also the player's opponent through the entire third league in the game, the Master League. He is also the main antagonist of Rayman Arena.
