The Great Protoon is a mystical pink orb of light which acts as the source of all energy in Rayman's world. Appearing only in the original Rayman game, it maintains the harmony between nature and the people of the world. The Electoons gravitate around it, and seem to have some sort of symbiotic relationship with it – without it, they scatter all over the world, and the balance of harmony is lost.

The Great Protoon's name is derived from the word ‘proton’, while the Electoons' name is derived from the word ‘electron’. Protons and electrons are subatomic particles; electrons orbit protons and provide them with stability.

Because of its immense power, the Great Protoon becomes the target of Mr Dark's evil scheme in the original game. Mr Dark steals the Protoon from its resting place between two carven stone hands, overpowering Betilla the Fairy in order to do so. The Electoons become scattered as a result of the Protoon's displacement, and are subsequently captured by Mr Dark's minions and imprisoned in cages. Rayman's primary objectives during the game are to recover the Great Protoon and free the Electoons. When Rayman finally defeats Mr Dark in his Château, the game ends without showing the Great Protoon's recovery. However, an epilogue screen indicates that the Great Protoon was indeed rescued.

In the intro sequence for most versions of the original Rayman game, the Great Protoon is first seen floating between two enormous carven stone hands. However, in the intro sequence for the Atari Jaguar version of the game, the Great Protoon is first shown in a grassy outdoor area surrounded by hilly terrain. It is perched atop a large round stone, upon which is carved three symbols resembling the ‘O’ on Rayman's chest. Waves of energy can be seen radiating from the Great Protoon, and several Electoons are visibly gravitating around it, while Rayman frolicks with more Electoons in the foreground. It can be inferred from these two intro sequences that the Great Protoon is sometimes moved about from one location to another. After completing the game, the player can view an epilogue screen which shows that the Great Protoon has recovered. It appears to have been returned to the stone upon which it was seen in the Atari Jaguar version's intro sequence.

In Rayman 2 and Rayman 3, the Great Protoon is replaced by the Heart of the World, a glowing pink sphere comprised of 1000 Yellow Lums. In addition to their similar appearance, the two objects serve the same function (the provision of energy and harmony throughout the world), and the catastrophic consequences which result when they come under attack (the proliferation of freaks and hostile characters) is also the same. It has been speculated that the Great Protoon and the Heart of the World are actually the same object, only under different names. The way in which the Heart appears to be comprised of many bodies of light while the Great Protoon seemed to contain only a few may be a result of its destruction at the hands of the Robo-Pirate army and its subsequent reconstruction by the Teensies. In Rayman Origins Polokus tells The First Grand Minimus to take a holiday from guarding the Heart of the World.

Plum juice is a fermented beverage made from the extraction of liquid from fresh plums. Its alcoholic proof and the hallucinogenic properties of plums make it the Hoodlums' favourite drink, and while André is inside Globox's stomach, whose behaviour is modified by this psychotropic substance, he forces him to drink every single barrel of it he finds on his way. Globox is also allergic to plum juice; of Globox's many reactions to drinking it, it is unclear which are caused by its alcoholic content, which are caused by its hallucinogenic properties, and which are caused by Globox's allergy. Plum juice is also used by Hoodbooms as an explosive liquid in small bottles; this method's effectiveness is most likely due to the alcohol's flammability. Grim Keepers usually have a jug of plum juice on hand to drink away shellshock after losing their Grims in combat.

In Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, barrels of plum juice reappear when Globox is the playable character. He will come across Hoodlum enemies like Hoodmongers and Hoodmonger Soldiers and runs away if he gets too close. At times a plum juice barrel is nearby, which Globox can drink it to gain abnormal confidence and be able to defeat the Hoodlums that stand in his way, for only a limited time.

It is also suggested in the manual for Rayman Origins that Plum juice is what gives Globox his blue colouration:- "...the Teensies favour an epic tale of high-comedy, featuring Globox's fondness for sacred plum juice."
Zombie Chickens, also known as Scowlers, are enemies found in the gloomier parts of the Glade of Dreams. They first appear in Rayman 2, where it is said that they are the result of hens laying dead eggs out of terror at the events caused by the Robo-Pirates. They can also be seen in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 and very briefly in the console versions. Ghostly, spirit-like versions can also be seen floating around levels in Rayman M and its remakes. In the manual of Rayman Origins, it is explained that when the nymphs were on their way to create Rayman, a bunch of Zombie Chickens attacked them and stole some Lums that the nymphs were carrying, as a result, Rayman was made without limbs.

It is unknown whether the Zombie Chickens have any connection to the Denys or the Minisauruses, other chicken-like creatures found in the Glade of Dreams.

Appearance
Zombie Chickens have slightly deformed chicken beaks with cartoony eyes and grey-brown feathers on their heads. They wear long, ripped, brown cloaks and their arms look like human skeleton ones that are bent in a haunting way.

In Rayman 2
The Zombie Chickens appear in levels containing swamp-like elements, such as the Bayou and the Marshes of Awakening. They can hurt Rayman by a simple touch, though touching Rayman will also cause the Zombie Chicken to fall apart. They spawn by seemingly rising up from the ground or swamp water.

There are two types of attack pattern that Zombie Chickens will utilise. Some will actively follow Rayman and as such must be shot at in order to prevent damage. Others will simply travel forwards to the area Rayman was occupying when they spawned, and as such, can simply be dodged by stepping out of their way, but can also be shot at.

In the Rayman Revolution manual, it is incorrectly stated that the Zombie Chickens are allies of the Robo-Pirate army.
Much like in the console versions of Rayman 2, Zombie Chickens appear as an obstacle that can deal damage to Rayman when touched. They also feature in levels in which they did not in the console versions, such as the Cave of Bad Dreams and the Echoing Caves.
Zombie Chickens do not feature as an obstacle in Rayman M and Rayman Arena, but they have cameo appearances in the First Ruins, Shadow Plains and Nebulous Tower.
Zombie Chickens only appear in the tunnels of the Desert of the Knaaren, where they will spawn from the ground or walls, and will threateningly move toward Rayman. Unlike in Rayman 2, they circle around Rayman before moving in to make damaging contact with him. Some spawn when Rayman picks up their eggs, and it will be necessary for Rayman to put down the egg and deal with the Zombie Chickens in order to slowly progress through to a pressure switch, which will remain open once an egg has been placed upon it.
In the Rayman Revolution manual, it is incorrectly stated that the Zombie Chickens are allies of the Robo-Pirate army.
The Daily Bubble was an interactive online magazine created to promote Rayman Origins. The magazine was written from the perspective of an inhabitant of the Glade of Dreams. Each issue contains music, gameplay clips and story snippets relating to the game, including several scrapped elements, sketches and artworks. The magazine can be read on the official UbiArt blog.
Turnips are plants found in Rayman Legends. They are always first seen attached to the ground, with only the green leaves being visible. The player can then punch them out from the ground by kicking downwards. The turnip will then land on the ground, stunned, allowing the player to hit it for Lums. Not all green leaves are connected to turnips. Some will bring up an enemy or a cage containing a Teensy or Lums.
Dark creatures are common obstacles in Olympus Maximus. They are vicious hordes of monsters that instantly kill anything they touch. They can be killed by purple mushrooms found in Olympus Maximus. When first found, they appear to be imprisoned. It is currently unknown why, though it may be related to the fact that the dark creatures come to form the Dark Cloud, the final boss of Rayman Legends. Aside from the mushrooms of Olympus Maximus, their only weakness is the Blue Punch.

Appearance
They resemble Antitoons as they appear in Rayman Origins, sporting also furry balls for bodies, with two tiny arms and mouths with large, sharp teeth. The dark creatures have three different eye colours: blue, when in contact with the mushroom's explosions, green, when not having a player nearby, and red, when spotting a player.
