They are notable for being near-invincible.

Description
In many ways, Ape Pirates seem like a typical first-mate pirate, comparable in apparel to Mr. Smee from Disney's Peter Pan. However, unlike Smee Ape Pirates are brainless and exist only to clobber intruders to their territory. They are short, stubby, but plump.

Battle Strategy
Ape Pirates attack in only one way: they charge, run over their foe, and run away. Unfortunately, their lack of intelligence does not stop them where their foe jumps, and so if somebody such as Rayman jumps right next to a cliff, the Ape Pirate is sure to fall a great distance and explode.

Another way to handle an Ape Pirate is by lobbing a Plum at one's head.
They are notable for their difficulty to take down, and first appear in Whale Bay.

Description
Barrel Pirates resemble giant barrels with legs. They stomp around hallways and guard special Robo-Pirate fortresses.

Battle Strategy
Barrel Pirates are similar to miniature Boss Biditanks--they are formidable, slow-moving, and fire electric discharges. Though normally they fire poisonous cannonballs similar to a Yellow Henchman 800's projectiles, Barrel Pirates release electrical discharges whenever Rayman gets too close.

Barrel Pirates can be a hassle for a limbless hero to take down face-to-face; however, they are susceptible to ricocheting shots.

The Chair Ride is a mini-game level from Rayman 2: Revolution, though prior to the game in Rayman 2: The Great Escape it was the first segment of the Top of the World.

Description
Located deep in the swamp is a special chair--anybody who rides it finds themselves on a wild rollarcoaster ride through many dangerous obstacles. In Rayman 2, the ride passes through a forest and some pipes (it is also well to note that in Rayman 2 the ride begins in a Canopy-like setting instead of a swamp). In Revolution, the ride passes through a forest and then arrives at a seaside cliff covered in barren rock and dead trees. In both versions, many pirate fortresses stand in the chair's way.

As a Level
The chair ride is a unique segment of the game in which the player must tilt the control stick/pad left or right to spin a speeding chair either clockwise or counter-clockwise so as to avoid incoming obstacles. However, the story behind the chair is different depending on the version.

Rayman 2/Rayman DS
Before Rayman arrives at the beginning of the Top of the World level, an Ape Pirate rides the chair out of a hidden Robo-Pirate Fortress. It lands on a small cliff with a crash, and gets up just as Rayman arrives via a Magic Spiral Door. The Ape Pirate is quick to attack Rayman, but Rayman dodges onto the chair. Suddenly the chair takes off, rendering Rayman almost helpless. He must dodge pipes, fortresses, lasers, and grates before he may successfully arrive at the fortress.

Revolution
Before Rayman may request that Ly the Fairy take him to the Chair Ride, Rayman must have collected 10 Fairy Familiars. Afterwards, the Chair Ride will always be available at Ly's House, Ly's Stella, and Ly's Rock.

After Ly transports Rayman to the swamp, Rayman must leap onto a speeding chair. The chair sends him on a wild ride through forests, mountains, and other scenic locations. To successfully complete the level, however, Rayman must collect EVERY Red Lum on his first try--if he misses even one, completing the ride will not count and he must start over again without any Red Lums.

The Chair Ride is Rayman's first opportunity to increase his HP bar in Revolution. However, to do so every Red Lum must be collected. The Chair Ride in Revolution is notably harder than its Rayman 2 counterpart, especially due to this added requirement.
Several changes have been made for this version, notably the upgraded graphics, the inclusion of new worlds and mini-games, and the order of the gameplay. Its difficulty was also slightly higher of Rayman 2. Similar to the PlayStation version of Rayman 2, some levels were shaped differently or removed (i.e. Echoing Caves).

Description
Boss Biditank is an experimental tank resembling a giant barrel or Barrel Pirate. It has a cannon on top of it, from which it may fire bombs or electrical discharges. The only weakspot the tank has is a small hole from which the controller looks out of.

Role in the Games
Boss Biditank was to be tested out on one of Globox's daughters, before Rayman freed her. The tank is quick to arrive, however, and is piloted by Admiral Razorbeard's Lackey. To defeat the tank, Rayman has to step on the four generators at the corners of the large room while avoiding the tank's electrical discharges and bombs. Once the four generators were pressed, Rayman would be able to use the laser at the end of the room. If Rayman successfully hits Razorbeard's lackey through the hole in the tank, the tank will be injured. However, Rayman must return to the generators to power up the laser again. It takes three or four tries to destroy Boss Biditank.

The Dinosaur is an invincible enemy from Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes, Rayman 2: Revolution and Rayman DS. It goes un-named in all versions but the PS version.

Description
The Dinosaur is a giant, remote-controlled robot with a head resembling that of a Teensie's, along with two raptor-like legs. It tends to hop a lot like a kangaroo.

The Dinosaur was used by Admiral Razorbeard's Lackey to patrol the Reformatory for Disturbing Children in the Iron Mountains. If anything escaped, it would persistently chase down the escaper.

Role in the Games
The Dinosaur doesn't appear until the grand finale of the Iron Mountains. It is dangerous for Rayman to approach, but otherwise helpful: its jumping makes a crate bounce just high enough for Rayman to enter the Reformatory. Similarly, a crate bounces inside the Reformatory; this allows Rayman to reach the Reformatory's roof.

However, once Rayman reaches the roof the Dinosaur's role is another story completely. After Rayman releases Globox's children from the Reformatory, the Dinosaur is quick to react. Rayman must speedily zip by the incoming Dinosaur or risk being flattened.

The exception to the rule is the PS version of Rayman 2, in which Razorbeard's lackey accidentally breaks the remote control, rendering the Dinosaur useless.

Admiral Razorbeard's un-named Lackey is a Robo-Pirate from Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution, and Rayman DS.

Description
Razorbeard's lackey looks different from the other Robo-Pirates. He looks more like a slightly-chubby pirate with a bandana around his head. Like most Robo-Pirates, he is taller than Admiral Razorbeard.

Razorbeard's lackey was in charge of the ground operations during Admiral Razorbeard's campaign. He was a mechanical genius, and created many dangerous devices.

Role in the Games
The lackey's role in the N64, PC, DC, and DS versions of Rayman 2 is very small. He appears in the cinematics where Razorbeard is informed of Rayman's whereabouts, but little more than that. In every game, however, he debuts in the cinematics prior to the Bayou.

PS Version/Revolution
In the two Sony versions of Rayman 2, the lackey is given much more importance. At multiple points he encounters Rayman and brings with him a difficult challenge. The lackey first strikes chronologically in Revolution, in which he leads the attack on Clark and Rayman at the entrance to the Rainbow Cliffs. His next appearance, also Revolution exclusive, is a boss fight: Razorbeard's lackey jumps into the Boss Biditank to personally battle Rayman. The lackey next encounters Rayman in both the PS and Revolution versions at the end of the Tomb of the Ancients, where it is seen that the lackey is controlling Clark via remote control. The lackey makes his last appearance solely in the PS version at the end of the Gloomy Island, where he makes his last attempt to get rid of Rayman with his remote control Dinosaur. Unfortunately, the remote breaks Rayman escapes. This is the only time dialogue occurs between the lackey and Rayman.

The fate of the lackey is unknown.
In most games, he is portrayed as Rayman's best friend.

Appearance
Globox resembles a large obese amphibian with webbed feet and long thin arms. In his debut he is green-blue in colour with a pale yellow belly and hands, though in his later appearances he comes more blue in colour.

Biography
Globox was originally called Globber, a name which he passed down to one of his children before changing his name. He has a very large family, and together with his wife Uglette they have produced over 650 children, most of which are male.

Roles in the Games
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Rayman 2: Revolution
Though Globox's primary roles in Revolution were similar to those in Rayman 2, a few new elements were added. In Revolution, Globox does not grant Rayman the ability to shoot his Magic Fist, but instead simply allows Rayman to punch. Globox's house, children, and relation with Uglette are depicted in a larger scale; one of his daughters is an important character later in the game, Uglette is constantly seen worrying about Globox, and his cliffside house's acres of land are the setting for one half of the second part of the game. Globox joins Rayman on a few occasions in a fashion similar to Clark or Globox's role in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Globox must be taken past Whale Bay to use his Rain Dance so as to enable entry to the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

Rayman M/Rayman Rush
In Rayman M and Rayman Rush, Globox is one of the initially available characters.

A Baby Globox is one of Globox and Uglette's 650 children. Along with their parents, baby Globoxes first appear in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes, where it appears that a large number of them are prisoners held on the Buccaneer. Those who had not been captured would appear either individually or in groups, and are usually seen cheering Rayman on or crying for their missing father. Female Baby Globoxes were introduced in Rayman 2: Revolution, and one of which played an important role near the end of the game. Baby Globoxes reappeared in Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Colours
Most of the baby Globoxes are the same colour as their father Globox, an indication that a large number of them are male, though there are a few of them that are found in colours other than blue-green. These particular Globoxes can be found in the Globox Village (Globox's House in Revolution), and are playable characters in the bonus mini-games involving Baby Globoxes. Female Globoxes are generally as a rule some shade of red, usually pink.

Unicef
At the time Rayman Raving Rabbids had been released, the baby Globoxes had been redesigned, and appear in a number of French adverts for Unicef in which a Rabbid would treat one unfairly, for example, it would eat a lot of food but not give the baby Globox any, until Rayman would come along and pull down a blind which had messages in French saying "I have the right to eat!". Five of these adverts were made and they were to raise awareness of the rights of children.
Despite her animal-like appearance, she is a fairy, and is speculated to have been a replacement for Ly the Fairy, who was supposed to appear as a playable character but was scrapped from the game.

Appearance
Tily is a small young creature that somewhat resembles a canine or perhaps a feline animal. She is orange and pale yellow in colour with dots and swirls over her body, has large blue eyes, and has lilac and gold translucent wings which she uses to glide. Tily also has the ability to shrink her body and turn into a butterfly-like creature. Her official hair colour according to the game is red with pink streaks, though in some of the official artwork it is purple, like Ly's. She also had a skin with similar features to Ly, but it was apparently scrapped from the game.
At the very beginning of Rayman 1, the Magician tells the story of what is going on at the time before Rayman's journey begins, appearing to have a carefree and sarcastic tone in his voice, implying that he either has a strong sense of humor, or has disregarded the fact that his world is in danger at the moment. His primary role in the game is to challenge Rayman every time he is found, as long as he can pay the price. For a price of 10 Tings, the magician can transport Rayman to special Bonus Levels where he may either earn more Tings or, if he may complete the level, earn an additional life.

In Amazing Learning Games with Rayman, the Magician takes up a teacher-like role, giving Rayman instructions on every task he must make in order to make it through every level. Typically he pops a bad joke or two during the beginning level introductions, and at the end of each level will perform quite humorously with a dance, cheer, or a bit of singing. Ly the Fairy is a character from Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes, along with Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. She takes the same role as Betilla the Fairy did in Rayman.

Description
Ly resembles a humanoid with elven ears, a very thin build, green lips that match the colour of her eyes, and short purple hair. She also appears to have feline or fox features, such as her bushy tail which is the same colour as her hair. Her body (which may be skin or may be clothing) is covered in purple stripes.

Ly's personality is seldom touched on in Rayman 2, but it is looked into in Revolution. Ly is a warm, friendly sort of person who will root on her friends to the very end. Ly deeply admires Polokus, and is very enthusiastic about him.

Ly the Fairy lives in a cottage in a clearing near the Eastern Plains. She also likes to rest atop a stone near Globox's House and in a cave in the Rainbow Cliffs. Ly's favorite haunts include the Woods of Light and the Fairy Glade.

It is unknown if Ly has any relation to Tilly the Fairy.

At one point, Ly was captured by Robo-Pirates and imprisoned in the Fairy Glade.

Role in the Games
Rayman 2
Ly may be compared to Betilla the Fairy in her main role in the original Rayman 2. Using Silver Lums, Ly grants Rayman powers in various points of the game. However, Rayman must first rescue Ly from the Fairy Glade. Ly additionally offers two Time Races: the Walk of Life by the Bayou, and the Walk of Power by the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava.

Revolution
In Revolution, Ly returns to her house after being rescued. To increase the maximum capacity of the HP Bar, Rayman must acquire all the Red Lums in the mini-games Ly offers. A new mini-game is offered for every 10 Fairy Familiars Rayman acquires.

Rayman 3 GBA
Ly the Fairy (pronounced 'Lee', apart from Germany where her name is pronounced 'Lie') is a character in the Rayman universe who first appeared in Rayman 2.

Appearance
Ly appears to be a humanoid with elven ears, a very thin build, green lips that match the colour of her eyes and short purple hair. Interestingly she also appears to have feline features, such as her bushy tail which is the same colour as her hair. She is mostly seen wearing a yellow catsuit covered with purple stripes.

Character
Ly's role in Rayman 2 is much like that of Betilla the Fairy in the original Rayman - at certain points of the game she would provide you with permanent powers that make Rayman stronger, provided you free her from her prison at an early point in the game. Though she spends a lot of her time meditating, Ly sometimes challenges Rayman to a race through the bonus stages, the "Walk of Life" and "Walk of Power", in which she played as a guide rather than a competitor, meaning you didn't have to beat her.

Other Appearances
Ly makes small cameos in a number of games in the Rayman series other than Rayman 2.

*Rayman M: In a later arena in the Battle Mode called Ly's Palace, an ice sculpture of Ly is found the centre of the room. She also appeared in a few advertisements before the game was released, and even on the back of the final European Rayman M cover, though she doesn't appear as a character in the game at all.
*Rayman 3: In a stage in the Longest Shortcut, another statue of Ly is hidden behind a painting. However, in the GBA version of Rayman 3, she appears as a character playing the same role as a powers provider as in Rayman 2, though instead of having a tail, she has a large ponytail.
*Rayman Raving Rabbids (GBA): Surprisingly, Ly makes her most recent cameo in the Gameboy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, though her appearance had changed. Her hair is curlier than before and is again in a ponytail, has sky blue lipstick, and her catsuit has a cut that reveals her shoulders.
Description
Blue Lums resemble blue-colored Yellow Lums. They are found only underwater.

Blue Lums are the manifestation of the life force of the Glade of Dreams. When a baby is born it is given its first Blue Lums. These Blue Lums are kept until the time of death.

After Silver Lums, Blue Lums are the rarest of all Lums.

Role in the Games
Blue Lums are found only in underwater areas, with the exception of the latter half of Whale Bay. If Rayman approaches one, his air meter will refill (similar to a Red Lum in relation to the HP meter). Blue Lums regenerate after a few seconds.

Mysteriously, Blue Lums were not included in Revolution. Replacing them were bubbles rising from holes in the submerged ground.

The Fairy Council is a location in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc and alluded to in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. The Fairy Council world is homologous to the Woods of Light from Rayman 2, though the second half may also be associated with the Fairy Glade and Minisaurus Plains from Rayman 2 and Revolution respectively. It is a tutorial level in which again, Murfy is Rayman's guide and introduces the player to the game's controls. The Heart of the World, which was also previously mentioned in Rayman 2, is located there.

Description
Its name a misnomer, the Fairy Council is notably void of fairies; in fact, it is confirmed in Revolution that at least one fairy doesn't live in the council at all. Instead, the Fairy Council is actually the home of the Ludivs and the capital of the Teensie royalty. It is a very important place, as the Heart of the World is hidden there.

Surrounded by a tranquil forest, the ominous Fairy Council is mysterious and majestic. The interior glows with a blue aura and various halls have reflective walls or floors. Ludivs reside within the council walls in a similar fashion to ants. Deep within the Fairy Council lies the Grand Minimus' throne room and the Heart of the World.

As alluded to in Rayman 2, the Fairy Council is a sort of central meeting place when trouble strikes the Glade of Dreams.

As a Level
Seeking Globox
The Fairy Council begins as Murfy picks up Rayman and flees from the approaching Hoodlums. After escaping the Hoodlums, Rayman and Murfy set out to find Globox, who has Rayman's hands. As they go, Murfy reads to Rayman the Rayman 3 manual and in doing so teaches the player the controls and how to use Combo Mode. Eventually, Rayman catches up to Globox and helps him out of a barrel. Rayman gets his hands back and the trio approaches the Fairy Council. Unfortunately, Hoodlums arrive and storm the Fairy Council before Rayman has a chance to stop them.

The Ludiv Nest
Globox hurries ahead, leaving Rayman and Murfy to seek him out once more. Inside the Fairy Council, Rayman is taught more complex maneuvers (similar to the Fairy Glade/Minisaurus Plains in Rayman 2) and battles against his first Hoodlums. Eventually, Andre makes his plan known and rushes off in search of the Heart of the World after fighting with a Ludiv.

As Rayman delves further into the cavernous sanctum, the council begins to fall apart. Amid the cave-ins and collapses, Rayman and Murfy encounter Globox; unfortunately, their reunion is again interrupted by Andre. Andre accidentally flies into Globox, and the two are sent flying into the Grand Minimus' throne room.

Inside the throne room, Rayman encounters many disco-loving Teensies, and on the far side of the room is the Grand Minimus and Globox. The Grand Minimus explains that it is too dangerous to keep Globox in the Council (as he swallowed Andre); Rayman must seek out the doctor in the Clearleaf Forest.

Characters
*The music at the end of the Fairy Council is similar to the music of the American 60's
*A reference to Murfy's role in the then-yet to be made Rayman Raving Rabbids is made in the Fairy Council; however, Murfy never made it into the game.

Description
Teensie Circles, each governed by a Teensie, are places where the invisible paths of several Magic Spiral Doors cross. From a Teensie Circle, one can access any nearby Magic Spiral Door. For convenience, the regulating Teensie may opt for an additional Magic Spiral Door to link multiple Teensie Circles together.

Teensies also use the Teensie Circles as meeting places, where they may share stories and recent news with one another. In times of need, Teensies utilize Teensie Circles as military headquarters. Wherever there is a Teensie Circle, a Magic Well is sure to be nearby.

Role in Revolution
At the end of the Forest of Light, the Grand Minimus directs Rayman to the Minisaurus Plains so as to seek out the plains' Teensie Circle. There, Rayman is told that Ly the Fairy is being held in the nearby Fairy's Glade. From then on out, Rayman may return to a Teensie Circle whenever he wishes to be re-briefed on his next objective. Also, if an area lacks any Yellow Lums and Fairy Familiars, Rayman will be informed of such. Whenever Rayman completes a level, he is warped back to the nearest Teensie Circle.

In the game, there are a total of three Teensie Circles--one for every region of the front.

Trivia
*All three of the Teensie Circles are strikingly similar to Stonehenge

Description
Magic Spiral Doors come in sizes both big and small and resemble small whirling spiral galaxies. Their colors may vary from place to place, being blue with a yellow center in most areas and red with a pink center at Teensie Circles. In the Hall of Doors, Magic Spiral Doors are color-coded: blue doors indicate that a corresponding area still has some Yellow and/or Orange Lums lying about and/or cages still remaining to be broken.

Outside the Teensie Circles and the Hall of Doors, Magic Spiral Doors generally require a certain stone slab depicting a spiral, similar to a Stone of Thought. Occasionally, though, the portals can appear without needing a slab.

Magic Spiral Doors are portals that connect distant places to each other. They are regulated by the Grand Minimus, and are capable of being created by Teensies, Polokus, and the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams. In Rayman 2, the Magic Spiral Doors are connected to one another via the Hall of Doors. In Revolution, Magic Spiral Doors connect to the nearest Teensie Circle.

Teensies are small creatures who comprise a large percentage of the Glade of Dreams' sentient population. They are frequently encountered in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution, and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

Description
Teensies have pale blue-grey skin and a characterized by their faces, which generally appear quite large due to their long, drooping noses that overlap their grinning mouths and chins. Their noses have elegant spiral markings that are cyan in color, though these markings are only vaguely noticable until Rayman M. Teensies have beady black eyes and small, mitten-like hands that lack any fingers other than thumbs. They are short compared to most of the Glade's denizens, and so will stand on top of one another to look bigger.

The Teensies were created by Polokus to oversee the many passages of the world. As such, Teensies have an excellent sense of direction and know many secret paths. Their greatest secret is the long shortcut hidden somewhere in the world. Many Teensies have the ability to create portals that use the Teensie Highway to quickly link distant locations to one another. Teensies are magical creatures by birth, and as such are able to create Silver Lums. They are very wise, and are powered by Yellow Lums.

The many Teensies are collectively ruled by the Grand Minimus, who reside deep within the Fairy Council.

The Teensie race is a diverse one, and the personality and dialect of a Teensie widely depends on where it comes from. In general, many Teensies are talkative and fun-loving creatures who have a taste for disco.

Female Teensies have yet to make an appearance in any game so far, and so it is unknown how similar they are to their male counterparts. Female Teensies are only subtly alluded to in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, in which some Teensies will grumble about needing to attend to their children (of which also have never appeared in any game). Though there exists the possibility that Teensies are hermaphroditic, it is generally regarded that the existence of Teensie wives is more likely.

Rayman 3
In Rayman 3, most Teensies have taken the role previously held by Electoons in Rayman and Denys, Ludivs, Greenbottles, etc. in the many versions of Rayman 2. Though a few Teensies such as the Grand Minimus and the Teensie Doctors have a role in the game's plot and are found elsewhere, most Teensies are found by destroying a cage. If Rayman destroys enough cages in a world, his HP Bar will increase its maximum capacity.

Trivia
*Teensies were originally going to appear in Rayman Raving Rabbids, in which they appeared in some of the early screenshots. However, after the game was remodeled into a party game, the Teensies were cut from the game.

Crowned Teensies are a variety of Teensie that first appear in Rayman 2: Revolution and later in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Their appearance is identical to both the crowned and crownless members of the Grand Minimus, which first appeared in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. While the Grand Minimus has been confirmed as ruling over all the Teensies, these additional Teensie royals appear to be at most governors from how they were portrayed in Revolution. This is only conjecture, as little is told of these Teensies' backgrounds.

Description
The royal variety of Teensies are identical in every way to the Grand Minimus. They wear elegant green robes, and most wear crowns; those who don't are always accompanied by at least one other Teensie with a crown. Some of this variety, such as the governing Teensie of the Minisaurus Plains' Teensie Circle, are known to be easily excited and quick to deny such. By doing the Teensie Dance with Teensie Gatekeepers, crowned Teensies are able to create Magic Spiral Doors.

Role in the Games
Rayman 2: Revolution
Crowned Teensies oversee the Teensie Circles that serve as World Terminuses in Revolution. Whenever Rayman completes a level, the Teensie of the corresponding Teensie Circle creates a Spiral Door and then tells Rayman what he must do next. If Rayman ever forgets his next objective, he may always return to the Teensie for a re-briefing. It is in this way that Rayman learns of Ly the Fairy and Globox's locations. Rayman first meets one of these Teensies after the Grand Minimus send him to the Minisaurus Plains.

In addition to the Teensies that patrol the Teensie Circles, crown-wearing Teensies run the Magic Wells. Whenever Rayman arrives at a Magic Well, one of these Teensies will explain the controls to navigate the well's menu. If Rayman purchases something from the well, the Teensie will create a Silver Lum and grant Rayman the purchased ability.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
The crowned Teensies confirm their variety status in Rayman 3. They dot the throne room of the Grand Minimus, dancing to the disco music filling the room's air. They next appear in the Desert of the Knaaren, where a king and two advisors warn Rayman about the Knaaren. In both the desert and later the Hoodlum Headquarters and Tower of the Leptys, a king and two advisors drop down from any cage that Rayman destroys, leaving either jewels or a Laser Washing Powder can.

The Grand Minimus are four Teensies from Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution (to a lesser extent), Rayman M (in which two are playable), Rayman Rush, and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. They are notable for ruling the Teensie race and overseeing the Hall of Doors/Teensie Circles. As a general rule, the Grand Minimus' main role in Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 occurs at the end of the first world.

Description
The Grand Minimus was originally composed of the King of the Teensies and three other Teensies assumably of relation to the king (such as friends, advisors, relatives, etc.; their relation is never given). However, after Admiral Razorbeard locked them up in the Forest of Light the Minimus soon forgot which one was the king. In fact, not even the king himself could remember! The Minimus later decided that, being as it was nearly impossible to determine who was king, all four would rule over the Teensies.

The Grand Minimus live deep in the Fairy Council, though they have been known to travel to the Forest of Light every now and then.

All four of the Minimus wear refined green robes, and at least one has a tall crown on his head. As seen in Rayman 2: Revolution, the Grand Minimus have a talkative personality and enjoy gossiping about recent news. Also, it is seen in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc that the Minimus have a taste for disco, and enjoy the company of a disco ball and many other disco-loving subjects in their chamber, dancing day and night.

In Rayman 2, it is soon confirmed that the Grand Minimus are the guardians of the Hall of Doors, assigned by Polokus himself after being created for that purpose. They are wise and powerful, though they seldom show it. Similar to Ly the Fairy, at least one member of the Grand Minimus is capable of creating Silver Lums. One is used by the Grand Minimus in Rayman 2, while a second is additionally used in Revolution. As may be seen in Rayman 3, the Grand Minimus also have the responsibility of guarding the Heart of the World, which resides in their throne room.

Role in the Games
Rayman 2
The Grand Minimus makes their debut appearance when Rayman destroys the cage at the end of the Forest of Light. Rayman hopes to ask them as to the whereabouts of Ly the Fairy, but is unsuccessful as the Minimus is distracted by the fact that they are unable to agree on who the real king is. After repeatedly grabbing the single crown from eachother's head and declaring to be king, Rayman gets frustrated and interrupts their clammor. Intimidated and worrisome as to Ly's bad news, the Teensies hush immediately and hesitantly back away. The last Teensie standing forward is quickly handed the crown.

Rayman 2/Rayman DS
The king then gives Rayman the bad news about Ly, but explains that Ly is being held nearby in the Fairy Glade. If Rayman has already collected five Yellow Lums, he will have collected enough energy to revitalize the king's magic powers. However, if Rayman is missing just one Lum, the king will send Rayman back to get the rest.

Magic restored, the king gives Rayman a good-bye speech before creating a Silver Lum. The Silver Lum drops down into a nearby abyss and explodes into a giant Magic Spiral Door. Rayman leaps into the door and leaves the Teensies.

Rayman next encounters the Grand Minimus as he enters the Sanctuary of Water and Ice level (Whale Bay in the PS Version). By now, the Grand Minimus have done some thinking, and have decided that all four would share being king. Standing in a line, each king would say a few sentences before walking to the end of the line as the next Teensie takes the crown and then takes his turn being king. Considering Rayman has enough Lums, the Grand Minimus open the doors to the Sanctuary. This sequence occurs again before the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire and Sanctuary of Rock and Lava levels.

The Grand Minimus is last seen in the final scene following the Crow's Nest.

Rayman 2: Revolution
Following acquisition of the crown, the king explains that both Globox and Ly the Fairy were captured by the Robo-Pirate Army. The Grand Minimus hasn't the slightest clue where Globox is, but believe that the Teensie at the Minisaurus Plains' Teensie Circle knows where Ly was taken. Considering Rayman has five Yellow Lums collected, the king creates a Silver Lum and sends it towards Rayman. Rayman then excitedly learns the Magic Fist ability. The king hops onto a pedestal and creates a second Silver Lum, which drops into a nearby void. The Lum explodes and turns into a Magic Spiral Door. After giving a farewell speech, the Grand Minimus see Rayman off to the Front.

Unlike Rayman 2, in Revolution the Grand Minimus is not seen again until the final scene following the Crow's Nest.

Rayman M/Rayman Rush
Two of the four Teensies in the Grand Minimus participate in the races and battles of Rayman M as one of the initial playable characters. Being that Teensies are considerably short, the two Teensies race by carrying one on top of the other. Rayman M was the first game to give the sovereign Teensies the name "Grand Minimus."

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
In Rayman 3, the Grand Minimus make their brief appearance at the end of the Fairy Council world. Rayman chases Andre and eventually arrives at their throne room, only to find it full of dancing Teensies and flashing disco lights. At the other end of the room, the Grand Minimus have Globox in their clutches. As Rayman approaches them, the Minimus tell him that Globox cannot stay in the throne room for fear that Andre could escape. To save Globox, the Grand Minimus open a portal to the Teensie Highway and explain to Rayman that he must take Globox to the Teensie Doctor in the Clearleaf Forest.

Look-Alikes
In Revolution and Rayman 3, similar-looking crowned Teensies make frequent appearances. It is generally regarded that this is not the Minimus, as there are more crowned Teensies than there are in the Minimus. However, it is unknown how the Crowned Teensies are related to the Grand Minimus.

Trivia
*Of all the characters in Rayman 2, the Grand Minimus undergo the greatest voice change between the PS version of Rayman 2 and Revolution. In the PS Rayman 2, they sound like wise old men, while in Revolution they have high-pitched, squeaky voices.
*Rayman 2s Grand Minimus theme song includes ceaseless murmurs by the Teensies, subtly indicating the talkative personality further explored in Revolution.
*Rayman 3s Grand Minimus theme song reflects the music style of the American 60's.

Mr. Dark is the main antagonist in Rayman 1. He had stolen the Great Protoon and defeated Betilla the Fairy who tried to protect it, before kidnapping her at a later point in the game. His exact species is unknown despite this lack of arms and legs like the rest of the characters in the game, as he does not show his face apart from his glowing yellow eyes. He also wears a dark blue cloak and hat.

Despite his role in Rayman one as the main antagonist, he does not choose to fight Rayman, but rather cast strange spells on him and finally fleeing. Because of this, the return of Betilla and the Great Protoon are not seen, though a picture shown afterwards suggests that they had been rescued. Dark does however fight as a final boss in the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 1.

Mr Dark also appears in the educational version of Rayman 1, Rayman Junior, in which he steals the Great Book of Knowledge from the Magician and destroys a map to his hideout.

Dreyfus2006: A brief overview; I should actually be doing my homework

The Henchman 800 Unit is a Robo-Pirate unit that comprises the majority of the Robo-Pirate Army led by Admiral Razorbeard. They are most famous (and infamous) for being the most common enemy in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and especially its remake, Rayman 2: Revolution.

Ranks
The ranks of the Henchman 800s is determined by color, though this isn't very noticable until Revolution, as color ranks overlap in Rayman 2. There are also many ranks that only appeared in Revolution and/or the PS version of Rayman 2. Rank strength can commonly be seen in how many hits it takes in Revolution to take down a Green Robo-Pirate, which then may be compared to the higher ranks.

Green
Green Robo-Pirates are the lowest ranking Henchman 800 units, and are capable of being defeated in two hits by Rayman's original Magic Fist, and may be defeated in one hit after Rayman saves Ly the Fairy. They are the most common of the units in the beginning of the game, and later in the game are frequently paired with Purple Robo-Pirates--especially when ambushing. Green Robo-Pirates are first battled in the Fairy's Glade, and only appear in Revolution.

Green Robo-Pirates are inexperienced in battle and are usually easy to hit. Their lasers are in the form of orbs.

The Green Robo-Pirates are comparable to the Red Robo-Pirates that appear early in Rayman 2.

Purple
Purple Robo-Pirates are slightly stronger than Green Robo-Pirates, and can take three hits until Rayman saves Ly; afterwards, Purple Robo-Pirates may be slain with two hits. Used as guards in their first appearance in the Fairy's Glade, Purple Robo-Pirates tend to sleep a lot. They fire blasts like their green counterparts, but are more likely to hit their intended targets. Purple Robo-Pirates are also slightly harder to hit than their green counterparts. Ever since their first appearance, Purple Robo-Pirates have been found somewhere near Green Robo-Pirates--especially when ambushing. Purple Robo-Pirates appear in both Revolution and Rayman 2, though Red Robo-Pirates sometimes overlap their rank in the latter.

Blue
Blue Robo-Pirates are the lowest ranking of the more-specialized "upper" Henchman 800 units. Blue Robo-Pirates seldom appear in any of the games, and one is treated as a mini-boss at the beginning of the Lost Island. They are the first Robo-Pirates to appear in Revolution utilizing a drill, though "Purple" Red Robo-Pirates utilize them in the Bayou in Rayman 2.

The Blue Robo-Pirates use a hit-and-run strategy. They will rise from the ground, fire a few shots at Rayman, and then drill back down before Rayman can get them. However, there is a pause between their shots that enables Rayman a chance to hit them.

Blue Robo-Pirates require quite a few hits to be taken down in their first appearance; however, this number is reduced to about two or three un-charged shots after Rayman completes the Canopy.

Blue Robo-Pirates do not appear in the PS version of Rayman 2 due to the game's absence of the Lost Island.

Yellow
Yellow Robo-Pirates are unique, specialized units comparable to the stronger Orange Robo-Pirates, and both only appear in Revolution. Yellow Robo-Pirates lack the blasters of their brethren; however, they more than make up for it with their unique barrage weapon. When Rayman is at a distance from Yellow Robo-Pirates, the Yellow Robo-Pirates will lob cannonballs up into the air. These cannonballs will then arc down and land wherever Rayman was when the cannonballs were fired. Upon impact with the ground, the cannonballs explode and leave a damaging patch of fire on the ground for a few seconds, leaving that part of the ground unsafe to touch. If Rayman is close to a Yellow Robo-Pirate, the Robo-Pirate will give up its cannonballs and reveal a hidden weapon: a flamethrower. The Yellow Robo-Pirate will spew a line of flames in Rayman's direction until he returns to cannonball distance.

Yellow Robo-Pirates are formidable enemies during their initial mini-boss appearance in the Bayou. They are used specifically as guards, as seen on the Lost Island and the Menhir Hills--spewing fire at anybody who approaches their location. However, following the Canopy these Robo-Pirates can withstand no more than three well-aimed shots from Rayman, and so are less of a threat.

Red
Despite being the generic Henchman 800 color and the most common color in Rayman 2, Red Robo-Pirates are only a unique rank in Revolution and are just as typical as Purple Robo-Pirates in Rayman 2, overlapping the Green and Blue ranks every now and then. But in the end, Red Robo-Pirates are the highest rank in Rayman 2 (except for the PS version).

In Revolution, Red Robo-Pirates don't appear until they are found sitting asleep near Skull Cave, guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. This rank is the highest of the un-specialized units, and as such displays top-notch battle strategies and accuracy. Instead of firing small orb-like shots like its underlings, Red Robo-Pirates fire "wave"-like shots that make it easier to hit their targets. Red Robo-Pirates also utilize the drills used by Blue Robo-Pirates, allowing them to appear out of nowhere and get straight to battle. If Rayman is too close to a Red Robo-Pirate, the Henchman 800 will swipe its hook like a melee weapon.

Red Robo-Pirates (along with the Orange rank) exhibit the unique and powerful ability to learn from Rayman's behavior. If Rayman tends to jump a lot to avoid attacks, the game will adapt to this and later in the game Red and Orange Robo-Pirates will not only jump to avoid Rayman's attacks, but will also fire into the air in anticipation of Rayman's jumps. If Rayman tends to zig-zag through shots, Red Robo-Pirates will anticipate this and fire in front of Rayman's path. There are many ways the Red Robo-Pirates can adapt, which makes them all the more formidable.

Three or four uncharged shots are necessary to bring down a Red Robo-Pirate.

Orange
The highest ranking Henchman 800 and a Revolution only enemy, the powerful Orange Robo-Pirates are seldom seen up until the Rainbow Cliffs, when suddenly they become one of the most frequent enemies for the remainder of the game. Orange Robo-Pirates can do all the same strategy techniques as Red Robo-Pirates and can also swipe their hook, but are unable to fire the wide beams unique to the Red Robo-Pirates. Instead, Orange Robo-Pirates shoot heat-seeking missiles (similar to Shock Rocket in Rayman 3, complete with the same color association) that follow Rayman until they hit their target. This is a double-edged sword, however: Rayman is completely capable of tricking the missile into hitting another or the original Robo-Pirate.

Orange Robo-Pirates commonly fight in pairs (as first seen in the Precipice). Orange Robo-Pirates have the highest HP of all Robo-Pirate enemies in the game (other than Barrel Pirates), and it takes many hits to take them down.

Black
Black Robo-Pirates (or "Ninja" Robo-Pirates) have the flamethrower abilities of Yellow Robo-Pirates, but also have the hook-using abilities of Red Robo-Pirates. Their most notable characteristic, however, is their teleporting capabilities. Black Robo-Pirates only appear in the PS version of Rayman 2 and in Revolution; in both, they are mini-bosses. The Revolution Ninja Pirates are the mini-bosses of the Precipice and the Echoing Caves.
