'''Golden Fists''' (also known as '''Gold Fists''') are power-ups in ''[[Rayman 1|Rayman]]'', looking like glowing yellow fists. They make [[Rayman]]'s [[Telescopic fist|fist]] twice as strong, so that he can get rid of his enemies more easily. If [[Rayman]] loses a life, their effect will vanish. Note however that if Rayman punches while jumping, the blow always deals full damage, whether or not he has a Golden Fist.

Their equivalent in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape|Rayman 2]]'' was called the [[Power Fist]].

[[Image:BetillaTelescopicFist.png|thumb|316px|left|[[Rayman]] is given his first power by [[Betilla the Fairy]]]]

The '''telescopic fist''' is the first power that [[Rayman]] is granted by [[Betilla the Fairy]] in [[Rayman 1|the original game]], after the second map of [[Pink Plant Woods]]. It is his most widely used power, and with it, he can hurl a fist that defeats any enemies that are in his way. Another power, the [[Grappling Fist|grappling fist]], allows [[Rayman]]'s fist to grab things such as extra [[Life|lives]] and [[flying ring]]s. In ''[[Rayman 1]]'', it can be powered up by picking up [[Gold Fist|gold fists]], which doubles the fist power, and [[Speed Fist|speed fists]] which can make him throw it faster (there are three levels of speed). Note, however, that if Rayman punches while jumping, his fist will always deal blows at its maximum power (i.e. as if he had a Gold Fist).

[[Image:Poing.png|thumb|316px|right|[[Rayman]] hurling his fist]]

This power is not the same as [[Energy ball|shooting]], a power [[Rayman]] primarily uses in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape|Rayman 2]]'', though in the beginning of ''[[Rayman Revolution]]'' he is temporarily given the ability to punch things by [[Globox]] until he frees the [[Grand Minimus]] in [[the Woods of Light]], where he is given the [[Energy ball|shooting]] power.

[[Rayman]] also uses the telescopic fist in ''[[Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc|Rayman 3]]'', where he can shoot it laterally by [[strafing]] around enemies. This is upgraded temporarily by the [[Laser-Washing Powder|Laser Detergent Cans]] the [[Hoodlum]]s leave behind.

==Trivia==
*[[Rayman]]'s telescopic fist is an unlockable weapon in another Ubisoft game, ''Prince of Persia: Warrior Within''.

'''Jano''' (commonly known as '''the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams''') is a character from ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]'' (and its remakes) in which he guards [[the Cave of Bad Dreams]], as well as [[Rayman 3 (Game Boy Advance)|the Game Boy Advance version of ''Rayman 3'']] where he is involved with [[Robo-Pirate Army|the Pirates]]. In the former game, he is the Guardian of [[the Cave of Bad Dreams]], a subterranean grotto in which the nightmares of [[Polokus]] are found and which it is his job to ensure are kept locked away. Jano also guards precious treasure, which, until found by [[Rayman]], was only rumoured to exist.

==Appearance==
Jano is a larger version of the one-eyed, fire-breathing monsters that dwell in [[the Cave of Bad Dreams]] and [[the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire]], who additionally carries a staff with a skull on its top, and wears a magician's hat identical to that worn by [[Polokus]]. The skull atop his staff contains [[the Elixir of Life]], which Rayman must gain to save his friend [[Clark]], who became ill after munching on a rusty [[Robo-Pirate]] in [[the Menhir Hills]].

==Character==

Jano is a fierce but wise creature, with the ability to read an individual's mind, breathe fire, conjure floating skulls, and change his size (becoming huge during his battle with [[Rayman]]). As a guardian, he will ward off anyone that doesn't know the name of the Cave of Bad Dreams. Although he's an ally of Rayman in general, he challenges Rayman to find the treasure that is hidden deep in the cave in ''Rayman 2'', chases and battles him towards the level's end, and offers the treasure to him upon his defeat (even though Jano attempts to kill Rayman a number of times throughout the level).

[[File:ShrinkedJano.jpg|thumb|Glitch with shrinked Jano]]

He can tell whether or not an individual is greedy, so he rewards Rayman with the [[Elixir of Life]] for refusing to take the tempting treasure. In all versions of Rayman 2 (excluding the Playstation version), the player gets to choose whether (s)he wants the treasure or not, and in choosing it, Rayman is cast to a deserted island surrounded by the Gold, noticeably obese, resulting in 'the end of the game'.

Jano appears again in [[Rayman 3 (GBA)|the GameBoy Advance version of Rayman 3]], where he is the boss of the [[Haunted Dreams]] world.

==Trivia==
* Jano's name is possibly derived from that of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus Janus], the two-faced Roman god of gates. This may be an allusion to Jano's two-faced nature: sometimes he helps [[Rayman]]; other times he tries to kill him.
* There is one interesting glitch involving Jano, which has been known to occur in the PC and N64 versions of ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape|Rayman 2]]''. If the player goes back again to [[the Marshes of Awakening]] after beating [[the Cave of Bad Dreams]], then they can see a little Jano over water, just on left side from the cave, where [[Rayman]] appears after choosing this level.
* Jano's name was not confirmed until the GBA version of Rayman 3. In Rayman 2 he is simply referred to as "The guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams". Interestingly, the minor character of [[Eig]] is named in Rayman 2, but it is never made clear immediately who the name belongs to. Therefore, many mistakenly assumed Jano to be Eig. (Eig is in fact a large but unimportant fish found in [[The Marshes of Awakening]] on most versions of the game.
* Like almost every other boss, Jano is absent from the GBC version of Rayman 2, along with the entire subplot involving the elixer. The Cave of Bad Dreams here appears to be simply another world Rayman must pass through.
* Jano's role is smaller in the Playstation 1 version of Rayman 2, due to the Cave of Bad Dreams being accessed through just another portal in the Hall of Doors, the entire event in the Marshes of Awakening does not occur. Therefore, Jano does not actually appear in the game until the begining of the battle against him.
A '''Silver Lum''' is a very special kind of [[Lum]] that debuted in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]''. In that game, they are created by [[Ly the Fairy|Ly]] the [[fairy]], and endow [[Rayman]] with brand new powers or upgrade powers he already has. They are the biggest [[lum]]s, and the only ones without eyes or wings (although in [[Rayman 3]] the [[Red Lums]] are shown in this state as well).

In ''Rayman 2'', Rayman cannot find Silver lums by himself; [[Ly]] gives him them when she has collected enough energy. However, in the [[Rayman 3 (GBA)|Gameboy Advance version of ''Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc'']], silver Lums can be collected throughout the game, and collecting 10 rewards Rayman with an extra [[life]].
===''Rayman 2''===
[[File:LyFairyGlade.jpg|thumb|Ly as she appears in ''Rayman 2: The Great Escape''. She had just been released from her prison in the Fairy Glade.]]
Ly's story begins in Rayman's mind, when she tells him that the [[Robo-Pirates]] have broken the [[Heart of the World]] into 1000 [[Yellow Lum]]s and that it has weakened her, before he gets captured. She is then consulted by [[Globox]], who she gives a Silver Lum to give to Rayman before they are both captured. While Globox is taken to the Buccaneer, Ly is held prisoner in an electrified forcefield in one of the pirate strongholds, deep in the [[Fairy Glade]]. The Silver Lum she created gives Rayman the ability to shoot balls of energy, and it is put to good use as he eventually finds her and destroys the machine that controlled the forcefield, freeing her. By then, she only has enough energy to create one Silver Lum, which upgrades Rayman's shooting ability to be used with Purple [[Lums]]. Before leaving to gather more energy, she passes her knowledge about Polokus and his four masks to him.

Later on, Ly makes more Silver Lums that make Rayman even more powerful, and by the time he reaches [[Razorbeard]] in the [[Crow's Nest]], she uses one to save him from falling into the vast body of lava, and using telepathy, encourages him to fight until the robot Admiral is defeated. When the battle is over, at first she was made to believe that Rayman did not survive the explosion high in the sky, until he turns up alive.

Additionally, Ly offers Rayman to join her in a race through the [[Walk of Life]] and [[the Walk of Power]], in which extra Yellow Lums are found, and offer him to have his health and power maximised. Despite it being a race, Ly does not have to be beaten.

===''[[Rayman Revolution]]''===
In ''Rayman Revolution'', it is revealed that Ly resides in a house built in a giant tree somewhere in the [[East Plain]], and it is there that she offers Rayman to play some mini games that top up his health and power, provided that he frees and brings to her enough [[Familiar Spirit]]s for each game. She also meditates from a stone in the area of [[Globox's House]], and a stele in [[Rainbow Creek]]. She is also a playable character in the unlockable mini game [[Missile Dogfight]].

===''Rayman 3 GBA''===
She plays the same role as Betilla in ''Rayman 1''. Oddly enough, Ly's sprite in this game shows that her tail is missing, and is now replaced a large ponytail at the back of her head, though in a cut-scene she still has her original tail and short hair.

===''Rayman Raving Rabbids GBA''===
Ly makes some brief appearances in the [[Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance)|Game Boy Advance version of ''Rayman Raving Rabbids'']], where she gives Rayman a costume medallion everytime he defeats a boss. While the game uses the same sprites as ''Rayman 3'' for the GBA, she has a new appearance in the cut-scenes, where the front of her hair is curlier than before, she has pale blue lipstick, and her suit reveals her shoulders.

==Character Description==
[[Image:Ly the Fairy.jpg|thumb|Ly as she appears in ''Rayman Revolution''.]]
===Appearance===
While she is of a very thin build, Ly shares some typical fairy attributes, such as her long elven ears, her magical powers, and the ability to float in mid-air. Like [[Betilla the Fairy]], but unlike other fairies, she does not have wings. She has short purple hair and a long, bushy tail of the same colour, while having green eyes and lips. Contrary to popular belief, she is not naked, but wears a yellow suit with plum stripes and swirls all over. Because of her tail, it is speculated that she may have some animal - most likely feline - characteristics. Early concept artwork for ''Rayman 2'' that depicted her shows that she may have been originally an anthropomorphic cat, as she appeared to have cat ears and a non-human nose. In the Walks of Life and Power, she sometimes runs on all fours.

===Physical===
Ly shows great athletic and gymnastic skills, perhaps more so than Rayman's, as she can run faster and jump much higher than he can. In fact, she can cross very large gaps, such as on the river in the Walk of Power, while Rayman would have to use his [[Helicopter]]. However, it is possible for the player to outrun her in the Walk of Life, though in all versions of the game apart from ''Rayman Revolution'', she will simply teleport herself to the finishing point if she is too far behind. Despite being thin, she has enough strength to juggle with Rayman's body parts with ease, if she wanted to. She can also shoot energy spheres, like Rayman's, as a method of defence.

===Personality===
Akin to Betilla the Fairy, she is a calm and very meditative character, even in her captivity at the Fairy Glade, and spends most of her time meditating deep in the forest. Rayman says that the [[Woods of Light]] is one of her favourite places to be. When she is not meditating, she is a fun-loving and friendly character that puts a lot of faith and trust in the heroes of the world, and is willing to help Rayman defeat Razorbeard and the Robo-Pirate Army.

It is unknown if she is at all related to [[Tily the Fairy]], a much younger fairy that shares some of her features.

==Trivia==
[[File:Ly_juggling_animation.gif|thumb|Ly juggling]]
[[Image:LyRRRgba.png|thumb|Ly as she appears in [[Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance)|''Rayman Raving Rabbids'' for the GBA]]]]
*Ly was originally going to appear in ''[[Rayman M]]'', as several promotional pictures and even the back cover of the game showed, but was in the end replaced by [[Tily the Fairy]].
* There was a concept artwork for ''Rayman 3'' which may have depicted Ly with a totally different appearance. She had no tail, but instead had huge dragonfly-like wings, her hair and lips were now phthalo blue instead of purple, and she wore a new outfit of the same colour, as well as a pair of elbow length gloves, while also having blue dots over her face and arms. This design was dropped from the final game, though it can be found as a printable in the ''[[Rayman 3 Print Studio]]''.
* Ly likes to juggle - several ''Rayman 2'' images depicted her to have juggled with at least 3 red balls, and even Rayman's body parts.
* Ly's voice in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape|Rayman 2]]'' is an echoing, feminine voice. In ''[[Rayman Revolution|Revolution]]'', although Ly spoke English, this echoing voice is still heard in the background.
* She takes part of a music band in the credits of ''[[Rayman Revolution]]'', where she plays the banjo.
* In the Japanese version of ''Rayman 2'' for the Dreamcast and ''Rayman Revolution'', Ly's entire appearance had been changed to suit the preferences of the Japanese market. Her eyes were rounder, her pupils were bigger and a lighter shade of green in colour, she was given thin eyebrows the same colour as her hair, and instead of green lips, they were now pink. Her clothes also became purple and white. She is known as "Rai" (ﾗｲ) in all Japanese versions of the game.

===Cameos===

'''Ape Pirates''' are powerful [[Robo-Pirate|Robo-Pirates]] from ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]'', ''[[Rayman 2: Revolution]]'', and ''[[Rayman DS]]''. They are notable for being near-invincible. They also make a cameo appearance on a production line in the [[Electric Final]] race course in ''[[Rayman M]]'' and in [[Hoodlum Headquarters]] in Rayman 3.

==Description==
In many ways, Ape Pirates seem like a typical first-mate pirate, comparable in apparel to Mr. Smee from Disney's ''Peter Pan''. Ape Pirates are brainless and exist only to clobber intruders in their territory. They are short, stubby, and carry a hunchback. They are seen wearing a blue and white stripey shirt. They walk on all fours like a gorilla.

==Battle Strategy==
Ape Pirates attack in only one way: they charge suddenly, run over their foe, and run away. Unfortunately for them, their lack of intelligence does not stop them where their foe jumps, and so if somebody such as [[Rayman (character)|Rayman]] jumps right next to a cliff, the Ape Pirate is sure to fall a great distance and explode.

Another way to neutralise an Ape Pirate is to incapacitate them by lobbing a [[plum]] at its head. This technique can also be used to gain access to otherwise unreachable ledges, as it immobilises the Ape Pirate, allowing his plum-encased head to be used as a platform. Both of these techniques were previously available and useful when applied to the [[Livingstone]]s in [[Rayman 1|the original Rayman game]].
'''''Rayman Designer''''' is a PC sequel to [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'' game]], which features 24 new maps called '''''Rayman<nowiki>'</nowiki>s New Levels''''', and a program called '''''Rayman Mapper''''' that enables players to create their own levels, or play levels downloaded from others.
Gameplay in the 24 official levels, as well as new ones created by fans, occurs in the same six worlds as [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'' game]], but does not involve finding [[cage]]s and freeing the [[Electoon]]s inside. Instead, [[Rayman]] must collect 100 blue [[Ting]]s to make the [[exit sign]] appear, a task that also involves collecting Tings of various other colours to make other items appear or disappear (most often platforms or blocking sprites, respectively).

Together with [[Rayman 1|the original game]], ''Rayman Designer'' is included in ''[[Rayman Gold]]'', ''[[Rayman Forever]]'' and ''[[Rayman Collector]]''.
'''''Rayman 4''''' was the tentative title for a ''Rayman'' game, announced by [[Ubisoft]] on the 3rd of May, 2006. Under development by [[Ubisoft Montpellier]], the game was to be a free-roaming action/platforming game, in which the player would control [[Rayman]] as he battled against an invading army of [[Rabbid]]s. These enemies were, according to series creator [[Michel Ancel]], ‘vicious, but at the same time [...] totally stupid’. The Rabbids had been planning their invasion since the events of [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'' game]], which the first teaser trailer indicates had been ‘decades’ before. The game was announced for Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, the PC, and the Nintendo Wii (which was then codenamed the Revolution, [[Rayman Revolution|coincidentally]]).

Upon receiving Wii development kits from Nintendo, the developers began to experiment with a wide variety of gameplay styles; as a result, the game's action/platforming elements were ultimately removed and replaced with minigames. The final game, ''[[Rayman Raving Rabbids]]'', was almost unrecognisable from the original ''Rayman 4'' concept.
==2005 concept art==

In 2009, several pieces of artwork from 2005 were published on videogame concept artist Guillaume Bonamy's portfolio. They feature three-dimensional versions of [[Band Land]] and [[Picture City]], as well as new environments called ''le Palais Temporel'' ([[the Temporal Palace]]), ''le Monde Organique'' ([[Organic Cave|the Organic World]]) and [[The World of Toys|an unnamed world of toys]]. While the latter two new environments were eventually adapted for [[Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance)|the Game Boy Advance version of ''Rayman Raving Rabbids'']], the Temporal Palace was seemingly abandoned.

It is unknown if the [[Rabbid]]s had been conceptualised yet at this early stage of the game's development.
==Press release==
[[Ubisoft]]'s official 2006 press release on the game read as follows:

<blockquote>Rayman Raving Rabbids marks the return of Rayman, in his funniest and zaniest adventure ever. When [[the Glade of Dreams|his world]] is threatened by a devastating invasion of [[Rabbid|crazed, out-of-control bunnies]], [[Rayman]] must rise up against these furry foes and foil their wicked plans. Using an array of amazing new abilities, and with the help of magical creatures, Rayman will need to break out all his best moves to save [[the Glade of Dreams|his world]] from these delirious bunnies and their hare-raising antics. “It’s a real pleasure for me to be back working on an all-new Rayman,” said [[Michel Ancel]]. “After wrapping up my last game, the team here in Montpellier sat down to talk about having some fun with [[Rayman]] and his universe. We are running into a bit of a problem, though, because our game has been invaded by thousands of raving mad and vicious bunnies, who have apparently been preparing this assault since [[Rayman 1|the very first Rayman game]]. We are now sending an SOS to all motivated gamers to help us get rid of them as fast as possible!” Here are a list of features you'll find in the new game!

* Combat the Ultra-Crazed Evil Rabbits – Take control of Rayman and his knack for attack to help save his world from the raving rabbids. They are mischievous, insane and completely out of control. There are several types of rabbids each with its own mischievous characteristics.
* Master and Ride Creatures – Tame and control various creatures such as sharks, eagles, rhinos, spiders and angelfish. Rayman can master each animal’s unique capabilities to help in his battle against the devious rabbits.
* Dress to Impress – Customize and disguise Rayman. Go punk, pop, rock or hip hop to infiltrate the bunnies and foil their devious plans.
* Explore the Colorful Fantastic World of Rayman – Explore amazing free-roaming environments and beautiful epic landscapes that mix real and fantastical styles to create a visually stunning experience.</blockquote>

'''Tarayzan''' is a character from [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'' game]]. As his name suggests, Tarayzan is a pastiche of Tarzan combined with Rayman. He is clearly a member of [[Rayman]]'s species; apart from his black hair, earring and leopard-skin toga, he looks almost identical to Rayman.

[[Rayman]] first meets Tarayzan in a rainy area that is the first part of [[the Swamps of Forgetfulness]], the third level in [[the Dream Forest]]. Tarayzan has lost his toga after getting it caught on a branch, and is now hiding behind a bush, embarassed at his nakedness. He can be seen murmuring and pointing awkwardly at his clothing. When Rayman jumps up and [[telescopic fist|punches]] the toga, it falls and flutters down to Tarayzan, who puts it back on and is now able to leave the shelter of the bush. As an expression of his gratitude for Rayman, Tarayzan gives Rayman a [[magic seed]], which can be used repeatedly to grow huge flowers. Tarayzan then yodels and leaps back up amongst the trees. When Rayman first plants the magic seed, a rising flood (accompanied by morbid music) starts, and Rayman must use the seed repeatedly in order to ascend to the [[exit sign]] and escape the water.

Tarayzan is seen again in the game's epilogue screen, where he is celebrating [[Rayman]]'s victory along with all of the other friendly characters. He later goes on holiday with the other characters, and is seen on a beach with Rayman and [[Joe the Extra-Terrestrial|Joe]] in one of the photographs displayed during the end credits.

In [[Rayman Gold]] his voice can be heard. He speaks very quickly and high-pitched, saying "Hey Rayman! Take this magic seed!"
