* This article is about Rayman Raving Rabbids in general. For specific versions, see Rayman Raving Rabbids (DS) and Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance).

Rayman: Raving Rabbids is the first video game of a spin-off series based on the Rayman series. It was released for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 2, PC, and the Game Boy Advance in 2006, followed by ports for the Nintendo DS and the Microsoft Xbox 360 in 2007.
Plot
Rayman and a few Baby Globoxes are having a picnic in a forest when three Rabbids erupt from the ground, capturing the Baby Globoxes. Rayman tries to offer them food, but then Serguei comes and grabs Rayman. The Rabbids take Rayman and the Baby Globoxes to their colosseum and keep them in jail cells.

In order to escape, Rayman must collect plungers to build a ladder up to the window so he can jump out. He does this by taking part in trials to entertain the Rabbids. After completing at least 3 of the four faily trials, Rayman is rewarded with a plunger and is taken back to his jail cell to get some rest for the next day's lot of trials. As he goes on, Rayman's cell is decorated to look nicer and he wins more costumes and songs. After every day, he goes to the ladder of plungers, looking at the window hoping to escape, but a bird always comes and poops on him. After fifteen days, Rayman finally collects enough plungers and escapes, getting his revenge on the annoying bird on the way. Back at the forest, Rayman sees sheep eating the remains of the picnic and remembers he forgot the Baby Globoxes. He tries to go back through a hole in which they were captured through but ends up stuck.

Characters
Rayman and the Rabbids are the main stars of this game. Also included are the Baby Globoxes, the only returning characters, the Rabbids henchmen, strange creatures that look like a cross between rhinos and elephants and some animals, who only serve as fillers.

Rayman: Rayman was taken by surprise by this invasion from within. What do the Rabbids intend to do? It's hard to say.
But now they're everywhere and their atypical psyches make them formidable and unpredictable opponents.

A Few Rabbids...

Pink: Pink is mute and timid. Yet, with just a little patience you can easily learn the basics of his method of communication and understand what he says. For example, "Hey mate!! What's up?" is translated, in his language, by firing a heat-seaking missile. (It is true that, long term, you could say that all he really knows how to say is "Hey mate!! What's up?").

Serguei: Serguei is a softy. Out of pure coquetry, he wears a delightful, finely worked metal muzzle. His joie de vivre and his strong sense of repartee make him a very pleasant companion. He's always ready to keep things light and lively with little tricks, such as grinding phalanxes, switching your clavicles, or even playing "this little piggy" with your toes.

Professor Barranco: Professor Barranco is a scientist. He is currently writing a very complex thesis on thermodynamics and the resistance of certain materials. For the moment, he is accumulating certain certain experimental data, firstly, on their resistance of cranial bones to the impact of a bludgeon, and secondly, the resistance to high temperatures generated by the explosion of booby-trapped gifts.

The frog-rabbids: The frog-Rabbids are part of the elite commando team. They are formidable combatants. They are systematically sent out on the most dangerous missions, such as assaults on carrot juice bars, infiltrating a popular chorus or even maintaining the peace in front of the toilets.

Clark: Clark is not a Rabbid like the others. His Super-powers enable him to accomplish feats that gain him respect and admiration from everyone. He is the inventor and the undisputed champion of a new kind of biathlon (the consecutive combo: Descending Flight + Vertical Subterranean Race).
His personal record: 2300 DF + 47cm VSR

Minigames
In total, there are 75 minigames, including second and third parts. A total of five of these are to be played each day Rayman is prisoner at the Colosseum, though at least three out of four can be passed before moving onto the boss challenge which is usually a Warthog Race of a Bunny Hunt. In Score Mode, each minigame is worth up to 1,000 points.

Bunny Hunts
The Bunny Hunts are first person shooter style game in which Rayman, armed with a plunger gun, has to shoot any Rabbids that he sees and free the Baby Globox they have trapped, without losing all of his health, which can be depleted if either a Rabbid gets too close to him, he gets shot with a plunger, or is attacked by rockets or carrot juice coming from the robots. The plunger gun can carry up to five plungers, and if they are all used, he will have to reload. Rayman is also armed with a grapple chain, which he can use to either ward off plunger attacks or grab a Rabbid that is close and toss it at other Rabbids, earning a Multiple score.

Several other objects can be shot with plungers, such as radios, which often distract the Rabbids into dancing. There are also medical kits, and a power-up that shoots three plungers at a time, but there's also a power-down which breaks the plungers for a short time.

Rayman (sometimes known as Rayman 1) is Rayman's debut game, and was first released in 1995 on the Atari Jaguar, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and on MS-DOS. A port for the Game Boy Color was released in 2000, followed by a port for the Game Boy Advance that was later released in 2001, in which it was renamed Rayman Advance. In 2008, the game was released on the PlayStation Network as a downloadable PSOne Classic, for Sony PlayStation 3 and Sony PlayStation Portable. In December 2009, the game was released as a DSiWare title for the Nintendo DSi.
Plot
Rayman's world depends on the Great Protoon, a mystical orb which provides peace and harmony to the inhabitants of the valley. One day, the game's villain, Mr Dark, defeats Betilla the Fairy as she tries to defend the Great Protoon, which he then steals, causing the Electoons to scatter. They are then captured by hostile creatures that appear after the incident, and are trapped in cages which Rayman has to break open in order to get closer to Mr Dark's hideout in the Candy Château. At a later point in the game, Mr Dark kidnaps Betilla. Rayman's rescue of her and the Great Protoon is not shown, but it is confirmed by the end-game screen.

Early production
Main article: Rayman (early production)

Over the years, a lot of information about the early development of the original game was unveiled, mainly through beta versions leaked to the public and Rayman Designer hacking. An interview also revealed that Rayman had had his limbs removed due to technical limitations.

Two Atari Jaguar beta versions became available on the Internet - an early prototype, which was leaked to the public in October 2008, and a demo version that had been available from ROM download sites for years before. While the first one features a lot of differences with the final version, especially as concerns the gameplay and the levels, the second one displays even more of them, with a noticeably different heads-up display centered at the top of the screen.

In July 2010 it was revealed that the game was initially developed for the Super NES.

Gameplay
Rayman is a 2D side-scrolling platform game, unlike its successors. The game takes place in a valley which is made up of six different worlds, half of which are natural (The Dream Forest, Blue Mountains, and the Caves of Skops), while the other half is 'imaginary' (Band Land, Picture City, and the Candy Château). Each of these worlds excluding Candy Château contains three or four levels, each with six cages with Electoons to find. The game's difficulty is progressive, meaning that it gets harder as the player continues.

The game's heads-up display consist of how many lives Rayman has, three units of energy (four in Rayman Advance) and five with a Super Power (six in Rayman Advance), and how many Tings he has collected. Rayman normally starts with four lives and three health units, and can collect up to 99 lives. When he takes damage, he loses one unit, and when he loses all of them, he loses a life, his temporary fist powers, and all of the Tings he had collected. Upon Game Over, he has up to nine continues depending on the version, which are represented with alarm clocks.

List of Powers and Power-Ups
At the start of the game, Rayman is only able to pull a grimace, which is used to scare certain enemies. As he continues, he would receive permanent powers from Betilla the Fairy that gradually widen his abilities, as well as receive a few temporary ones.

Permanent
* Grimace: Rayman's only ability at the game's beginning, only useful for getting rid of tall Livingstones which are scared of this.
* Telescopic fist: The first power that Rayman gains from Betilla the Fairy, which allows Rayman to punch enemies to defeat them. This can be temporarily powered up by Speed Fists and Golden Fists.
* Hanging: Allows Rayman to hang onto ledges.
* Grappling Fist: When acquired, Rayman can use his fist to grapple onto flying rings which are scattered around the place, allowing him to reach high places and cross wide gaps.
* Helicopter: When acquired, Rayman can use his odd looking hair as a helicopter which only allows him to glide, and prolong his jumps.
* Running: Rayman's last permanent power, which allows him to move faster than walking. It also makes his jumps a lot longer and faster. This replaces the grimace.

Temporary
* Magic Seed: Given to Rayman after helping Tarayzan, Rayman plants seeds to help him reach ledges and escape floods.
* Super Helicopter: A potion that allows Rayman to actually fly with his helicopter hair.
* Shrinking: Touching Blue elves makes Rayman tiny, which is useful for accessing areas which were too small for normal-sized Rayman to go through. He returns to normal size when he touches another Flying blue elf.

Power-Ups
* Tings: Small blue bubbles, used either to pay the Magician to enter a bonus stage, or to gain an extra life when 100 are collected.
* Powers: Comes in either a small red atom with a P on the front, or a large red one - the former gives Rayman one or two units of health, while the latter replenishes his entire health.
* Speed Fist: Allows Rayman's fist to fly faster than normal. Three different speeds are available.
* Golden Fist: Allows Rayman's fist to be twice as strong.
* Life: Gives Rayman an extra life, as well as restoring his entire health.

Characters
Throughout the game, Rayman meets an array of different characters, some of which aid him through his journey.

Friends
* The Magician: He introduces the game's story. He can also be found at several points of the game, in which he would offer Rayman to access bonus stages and help him win extra lives, for a price of ten Tings.
* Betilla the Fairy: A benevolent floating female fairy who failed to protect the Great Protoon from Mr Dark. She holds a very important role in the game – she gives Rayman new powers during the adventure.
* Tarayzan: Rayman's jungle counterpart, he gives Rayman a magic seed in return for giving him back his loincloth. One of the very few others to be seen from Rayman's species.
* The Photographer: This character acts as checkpoint. Should Rayman lose a life, he will return to where he last had his photograph taken.
* The Musician: Located high in the Blue Mountains with his family, his guitar had been crushed by a rock which Rayman must break to make him a new one out of stone. In return, the Musician gives Rayman the super helicopter power.
* Joe the Extra-Terrestrial: An alien that owns his own snack bar on the beach in the Caves of Skops. His neon lights have been unplugged, and Rayman must go down into the dark caves to plug them back in.

Enemies
* Bzzit: The first boss (or mid-boss) of the game, a large eyed mosquito, who lives in Anguish Lagoon in the Dream Forest. After Rayman defeats him he befriends Rayman and can be used as a vehicle. He later appears as a friend in Rayman Revolution.
* Moskito: Bzzit's stronger counterpart, and the boss of Dream Forest.
* Mr Sax: Boss of Band Land, he is a walking saxophone that attacks by blowing explosive wrong notes.
* Mr Stone: Boss of the Blue Mountains, he is a man made of stone who constantly thumps on the ground and sends smaller stone creatures to attack Rayman.
* Space Mama: A very large woman who's the boss of Picture City. She is first represented as a stereotypical female opera singer, with a rolling pin which shoots out knives. In the second battle, her rolling pin shoots out lasers, while also using exploding pots and a washing machine.
* Mr Skops: A scorpion who is boss of the Caves of Skops. He attacks with his giant claws and tail which shoots a homing laserbeam.
* Bad Rayman: The result of a spell that Mr Dark casts in the Candy Château who resembles Rayman with a dark palette and mimics every move he makes throughout the stage. He can only be defeated by finishing a stage while letting him follow Rayman
* Mr Dark: The main antagonist of the game, who steals Rayman's fist powers and casts strange spells on him. When he finally approaches him he would not really fight but rather trap Rayman with walls of fire. At this point the Electoons return the fist, but Mr Dark flees after, leaving him to actually fight hybrids of the previous bosses. His hideout is located in the Candy Château.

The PSP and PS3 ports was cancelled.

It was released for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 2, PC, and the Game Boy Advance in 2006, followed by ports for the Nintendo DS and the Microsoft Xbox 360 in 2007. The PSP port was cancelled.

Some recent information shows that Rayman was supposed to be ported to the SNES, Virtual Boy, Gzmondp, and the Sega 32x at the time and release of the PC and Atari Jagauar.

Some recent information shows that Rayman was supposed to be ported to the SNES, Virtual Boy, Gzmondp, and the Sega 32x at the time and release of the PC and Atari Jagauar.

==Original version==
Phase 1
When Rayman emerges through the Magic Spiral Door, he arrives in a small area of land which is connected by a wooden bridge to tiny island with a bouncy mushroom in the centre. Underwater, there is a little cave in which the first cage is found. If Rayman bounces on the mushroom, he'll be propelled to the underneath of a giant branch that grows right through the area, and hang onto the vines growing there. At the other side, there is a passage that leads to a body of water that is piranha infested, therefore Rayman cannot swim, but he can cross it with lily pads. There are then four ledges on the wall, which leads Rayman to the other end of the branch, where a switch is found. This opens a wooden gate, which two Baby Globoxes are standing by. This then leads to a small stream that takes Rayman to a lake of water that is being polluted by oil coming from a pump.Rayman can climb on the pump and take the passage out of this area.

Phase 2
At first, this area seems short, but later on, a special part of the area can be accessed via the Echoing Caves. It starts with a giant tree covered with vines, and at the bottom is a set of wooden bars from which shadow creatures emerge from. Rayman has to climb to the very top of the tree, and then slide down a stream, taking a passage that leads to another body of piranha infested water. Along one side of the wall is covered with a trail of vines, which Rayman must climb on to cross.

Phase 3
Rayman is now at the pirate stronghold in which Ly the Fairy is imprisoned, and it is guarded by a Robo-pirate that constantly throws burning kegs at him. On the ground is a metal sparadrap, which can be broken by one of these. To the left is a small area with a piranha infested pond, in which another cage is hidden in. Once Rayman goes down the hole where the sparadrap was, he drops down into an underground passage. Rayman has to cross a pool of green liquid by hopping on the wooden boxes, and then climb a wall covered with cobwebs (while avoiding falling kegs) to infiltrate the building.

Once inside, Rayman notices another switch, guarded by a sleeping pirate, but it is out of his reach, so he'll have to walk around the area to get up there. Murfy then arrives to warn Rayman about the pirates he'll face, and teaches him how to lock-on to them. Then a blue Henchman 800 () arrives, and once it's defeated, Rayman will enter another room in which kegs are supplied. He can either use it to defeat another sleeping blue Henchman 800 (), or find a secret room locked with a metal sparadrap, in which another cage is hidden in. Once that pirate is defeated, a metal grating will descend, which Rayman can climb on, and then he'll hang on to some netting on the ceiling.

Then there is a pit of acid, covered by some bouncy netting and guarded by an electric beam which can electrocute Rayman. Up the wall is a switch that will open the door at the top. Now he has found the other switch, and once he flicks it and defeats the blue Henchman 800 guarding it (), he can proceed down the corridor.

Phase 4
Still in the corridor and having to avoid more moving electric beams, Rayman finds a clearing, in which Ly the Fairy is held prisoner in an electric forcefield. There is a tunnel at ground level which leads to a machine that is generating the electricity. It seems to have three weak spots, which are indicated by the metal sparadraps, but flying bombs will periodically spew from it to stop Rayman breaking the machine with kegs. Once the machine is destroyed, Ly will be free, and after a conversation with him, she'll give him a Silver Lum, which gives him the power to hang onto Purple Lums by simply shooting them, and then departs.

Rayman then has to climb back to the top of the netted ladder, shoot the Purple Lum to cross the gap, and then run into a building that leads to a giant metal pipe.

Phase 5
Several pipes are embedded in a deep chasm, and the pump oil into a pool at the bottom. Another cage is found there, guarded by a purple Henchman 800 (). Once he's at the bottom, Rayman will enter a vast chamber full of swirling air currents that will help him fly higher when he activates his Helicopter. A couple of these are decoys, but will still contain Yellow Lums. At the very top of this area, there is a small wooden building in which the final cage is found, and it has a Teensie trapped inside. He will then open up an exit for Rayman.

* In Phase 3, a blue Henchman 800 () is found on the boxes in the pool of acid underneath the Pirate stronghold, instead of a trail of timed Red Lums. Another blue Henchman 800 () is also found in the tunnel leading to the machine that powers Ly's prison in Phase 4, and a purple Henchman 800 () shooting flying bombs appears near the air currents area in Phase 5.
* At the bottom of the polluted chasm in Phase 5, there is the first of 6 Glob Crystals, which are used to unlock minigames in the Globox Village, which Rayman can now access now that he has the power to swing on Purple Lums.
PlayStation version
There are many changes in the level design in this level.

Phase 1
In this area, there is no water to swim in other than a shallow pool, though the small bouncy mushroom island is still there, as is the giant branch with plant life growing underneath. But instead of the passage that leads to the switch at the top, there is another bouncy mushroom to use, and the switch opens the wooden gate as normal. A cage with a Ludiv is found, though there is no small waterfall to avoid. Then Rayman will go through the passage beyond the door, slide down a smaller stream than in the original version, and find the area with the oil pump.

This time, Ly will tell Rayman that this pump needs to be turned off, and the Rayman can swim in the water. But first he has to float on a giant barrel, and jump on bouncy mushroom to reach the switch that turns off the pump. Once Rayman is in the water, he has to swim through an underwater passage that leads to the giant vine-covered tree that he'll have to climb. Strangely enough, he encounters Antitoons in this area, perhaps as an allusion to the original Rayman. As he climbs up the tree, he'll find another Ludiv cage, then he'll come across the wall covered with vines just as before. The special area that is accessed through the Echoing Caves is not present in this version.

Phase 2
As before, there is the Pirate stronghold and the Pirate that throws burning kegs, though there is no secret passage. The underground passage and the wall of cobwebs is the same as before, but this time as Rayman climbs up, he has Yellow Lums to collect. After defeating the Pirate, he will enter a room that has a Deny cage at ground level, and Antitoons inside, and instead of grating, Rayman has to climb on giant wooden boxes to get to the netted ceiling. The rest of this phase is the same as before.

Phase 3
Instead of electric beams, the corridor in this area is guarded by red lasers that will just hurt Rayman. As before, he'll find the clearing in which Ly is imprisoned and destroy the machine that powers it. Once Rayman is given the Silver Lum and use the Purple Lum to cross the gap, instead of jumping between two walls, there is a ladder, and a Pirate. Once that is defeated, he will find the Teensie cage, and then exit the level.

PlayStation 2 version
Rayman Revolution also sees many changes applied to the Fairy Glade. As a result, more backtracking will be required to find all the Yellow Lums and cages.

* The first change is that in the waters in Phase 1, there are no Blue Lums but rather a stream of small air bubbles Rayman will have to breathe from.
* Rayman will encounter a Pirate in the passage that leads to the first switch of the level.
* In the area with the oil pump, not only is there another Pirate, there is also a yellow mushroom. Above it is a Purple Lum and three Yellow Lums, but Rayman will have to return to that once he gets the power to swing onto Purple Lums.
* In Phase 2, at the area with the tree covered with vines, there is another Pirate at ground level. Then in the next area, there is a funny looking plant that has to be watered with the Rain Mask later on in the game. When it grows, it can then be used to access the area of the level which in previous versions, could be backtracked vis the Echoing Caves.
* In Phase 3, instead of the passage in the left of the Pirate stronghold, there is now a ledge in which there is a tiny mushroom. Like the plant earlier on, this has to be watered with the Rain Mask, and once it's grown, Rayman can eat it. Alluding to the blue elves in the original Rayman, this mushroom will make him shrink, and then he can squeeze through a hole in a pile of rocks and find the hidden cage. He'll have to defeat a pirate while he is still tiny, too. Another mushroom is then found, grown and eaten to bring him back to normal size.
* The underground passage with the pool of acid and cobwebbed wall remains the same, but this time, the door is barred with electric bars which have to be deactivated with a switch. Then, there is no clearing in this area, but rather a room with with a book cabinet.
* In the room with the kegs, a metal sparadrap on the pipes needs to be destroyed to lower the metal grating. The secret room with the cage also appears to have three small prisons. There is no netting on the ceiling, but rather a wooden floor, and the switch that opens the door is on another wall. Then, near the extra Pirate, there is a dining room, and then Rayman finds the switch that will deactivate the electric bars, and moves on.
* Phase 4 holds the most notable of differences in level design. Instead of a clearing, there is a prison, full of cages and rooms in which a number of Yellow Lums are found. Instead of one machine that powers Ly's prison, it is a cluster of many machines, though the three weaknesses are still there. One machine has a hidden cage.
* Phase 5 also sees a number of changes, namely in the textures of the environment, and in the area with the air currents, Parachute Pirates will descend. There is also a secret passage that leads to a cage which is accessed with a Purple Lum.

Yellow Lums are the most important of all Lums. They, along with the Red, Blue, and Purple Lums, created the god Polokus, who went on to create the Glade of Dreams. There are exactly 1000 Yellow Lums in existence; when united (which seems to be their natural state), they form the Heart of the World, which was shattered into its constituent Yellow Lums by the Robo-Pirate army prior to the beginning of Rayman 2. Rayman collected all 1000 of them throughout the course of this game; the Heart (which contains them) is seen again in the Fairy Council in Rayman 3.

There is some evidence to suggest that the Great Protoon and the Heart of the World are in fact the same object; the reason for its differing appearance in Rayman and Rayman 3 may be its destruction by the Robo-Pirates and its subsequent reconstruction by Rayman and the Teensies. If this is true, then the 1000 Yellow Lums (in the form of the Great Protoon) actually appeared in Rayman. If enough Yellow Lums are collected, the collector can find out secrets of the world.

In most versions of Rayman 2, Razorbeard eats a Yellow Lum during a cutscene. This causes the total Yellow Lum counter on the heads-up display to decrease from 1000 to 999. This Lum, however, can later be found in a secret room in the Tomb of the Ancients. In Rayman Revolution, it is instead found in the same chest as the Lums Radar, also in the Tomb of the Ancients.

In the PlayStation version, there are only 800 Yellow Lums, which do not give Rayman the Knowledge of the World. In this version, the Yellow Lum which Razorbeard eats is replaced with a Red one. There are also 800 Lums in Rayman 2 Forever and when the word Lums first comes up, it says it as ‘Lumz’.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, there are 1550 Yellow Lums to be found.
Red Lums are items from Rayman 2, its remakes, and Rayman 3. Along with Yellow Lums, Red Lums are one of the two major Lums featured in the games.

Description
Red Lums resemble red, glowing orbs. In Rayman 2 they are similar to red versions of Yellow Lums, but in Rayman 3, they resemble atoms, apart from cutscenes where they are in their original form with wings. This atom-like appearance recalls the Simple Powers and Double Powers from the original Rayman, which, together with the Big Powers, were essentially that game's version of Red Lums.

Red Lums are the embodiment of vitality, and the origin of all life in the Glade of Dreams.

Red Lums are unique in that, if spooked, a Red Lum will undergo a transformation into a Black Lum – which is a major part of Rayman 3s plot.

Role in the Games
Red Lums recover Rayman's health. In Rayman 2, if Rayman is injured, nearby Red Lums automatically approach him. Robo-Pirates love Red Lums and collect every Red Lum they can find. It seems that the Robo-Pirates actually eat them; when Rayman destroys a Robo-Pirate, Red Lums are often found inside them. Similarly, the defeat of a Hoodlum in Rayman 3 releases a Black Lums. If Rayman uses Grimace on a Black Lum, it will revert back into a Red Lum. In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 2, a Red Lum completely restores Rayman's health.

In the PS1 version of Rayman 2, Admiral Razorbeard eats a Red Lum instead of a Yellow Lum.

In the DS version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, yellow lums can be exchanged for red heart-shaped lums.

This is the world of images, and also the world of mirages: passing across the stage of a small theatre, Rayman can find on his path beings straight from a pirate or a science fiction film. In particular, he meets Mama, an impressive shrew armed with a bizarre rolling pin...

Picture City is the fourth world in the original Rayman game. It consists of a land mainly made up of drawing materials, but Rayman will still find himself twice on the stage of a theatre. As he makes progress among erasers, tables, pencils, yin-yangs, writing chalks and pens, he has to jump onto pencil sharpeners, dodging the drawing pins that stand in his way. Danger is omnipresent, as shown by the ink-covered erasers placed above the void, on which slipping down is irremediably followed by a deadly fall. Rayman must also pass over an ink sea as soon as he arrives, and he will find ink pots and paint buckets as he moves forward. In the Rayman Junior games, boxes full of ink, gouache tubes and palettes are part of this scenery. Rayman will also find hisSuper Helicopter power, which will help him to pass through this strange world.

The enemies in Picture City are antitoons, hunters, and pirates. The boss is Space Mama, a large woman with blonde hair. Rayman will fight her first in Eraser Plains, and the final battle will take place in Space Mama's Crater.

Once Rayman has beaten her, Mr Dark captures Betilla the Fairy.

At one point, members of Ubisoft were considering the option of having Rayman return to Picture City, along with other Rayman 1 locations, during his fourth outing. Some concept artwork was produced, depicting Picture City as it would appear in a 3D game. However, Rayman 4 was ultimately cancelled.
These lums assure the cohesion of the world; without them, nothing would be solid or visible. Unlike the other Lums, this kind is shaped like a ring; rather than being collectible, they can be grabbed and used as hook by Rayman, so that he may cross large areas without touching the ground. Like Super Yellow Lums, Purple Lums have eyes.

In the games
Rayman 2: The Great Escape is the first game in which Purple Lums are names. In this game, Rayman gains the ability to swing from Purple Lums by absorbing a Silver Lum which was granted to him by Ly, after he freed her from her prison in the Fairy Glade.

In the original Rayman game, objects known as flying rings appeared. These rings are essentially this game's version of Purple Lums; the function in the exact same way, and appear very similar (but Purple Lums' wings are insectile, while flying rings' wings are more bird-like). This game also features evil flying rings; these are ugly, red versions which sink when grabbed, often putting Rayman in danger. Rayman must receive a Silver Lum from Betilla the Fairy in order to use flying rings.

Purple Lums also appear in Rayman M, where all of the characters can use them. They lack eyes in this game.

In Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, items known as flying hooks appear. These Hoodlum-made contraptions work in the same way as Purple Lums, but Rayman needs the Lockjaw Laser-Washing Powder to use them.

In the Game Boy Advance adaptation of Rayman 3, Purple Lums look very different from their previous appearances. They are larger, and while they lack eyes and wings, they now wear metal crowns.
They now have a greyish colour.

In the Game Boy Color versions of Rayman 1 and Rayman 2, the Purple Lums move around freely in one location, ready for Rayman to grab onto them. There is one grabbing ring that looks red and black. It goes up and down. When Rayman grabs onto, it goes and stays up. When he lets go, it goes down. It can hurt Rayman and is located in Fiery Depths and Dark Legacy.

In the Nintendo DS version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, a lot later in the game you can find purple lums.
Raving Rabbids Travel In Time is an upcoming game in the Raving Rabbids series (formerly Rayman Raving Rabbids as of 2010). It was first trademarked by Ubisoft in March 2010, and later announced at E3 on June 15th 2010. The plot is that the Rabbids are going back in time to change human history using a washing mashine.

Here is what Ubi Soft stated, "The Rabbids used a time machine (which looks like a washing machine) to go through different times and create havoc to change the story of the past. First, they went to prehistoric time, watching a caveman trying to make fire using a stick and leaves, from day till night, until the Rabbids gave him a lighter. Then, they went to the middle-aged Egypt to disturb the Egyptian building a sphinx. Last, they went to the medieval time, but ended up underground holding a sword when Arthur tries to pull it."
Rayman Origins is a 2D sidescroller platform game, and the fourth major title in the Rayman series. It was announced by Ubisoft at E3 2010, and is the first major Rayman game since the creation of the Rabbids. The game will feature two-player co-operative play, with the second player controlling Globox. The game is a prequel to the original Rayman game, and is set to be released in a series of episodes that will explore how ‘...this uncontrollable individual (Rayman) and his grotesque companion (Globox) become the heroes that we know...’ The game's trailer finally reveals Rayman's origins, which were hinted at in the Knowledge of the World in Rayman 2 eleven years before: ‘Conjured from the magnificent moonbeams of the second summer solstice, woven together by [the] nymphs, destined to preserve the equilibrium of the sacred universe: the one we call... Rayman!’ The ‘nymph’ who creates Rayman may be a younger version of Betilla the Fairy.

The UBIart developers explained their decision to release the game in episodic format by stating on their blog that they intended ‘To release one this year, and because big games take a long time to make, which in turns makes their price high.’ They went on to say that ‘Episodes also let us imagine a longer and more developed saga than with a more “classical” format.’
A Shell is a highly-explosive, rocket-shaped, animalistic robot in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes. They were built by the Pirates, and are used by them to guard passages. They chase Rayman if he comes within their line of sight. If Rayman manages to avoid touching them for long enough as they chase him, they become tamed, and Rayman can jump on their backs and ride them. This can be done easily if they are sleeping, in which case it is unnecessary to tame them. If they hit Rayman, or any other object or creature, they will explode, which can cause the player some health loss.
There are three makes of shell: the Flying shells, the Walking shells, and the Red Walking Shells. All three types can be avoided or punched to delay or stop them in their tracks.
Walking Shells are also found in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, in the level Prickly Passage in the world Haunted Dreams.
Shells are useful sources of transport, as they can take the player over unsuitable terrain, such as lava or prickily areas.
Description
In many ways, Ape Pirates seem like a typical first-mate pirate, comparable in apparel to Mr. Smee from Disney's Peter Pan. Ape Pirates are brainless and exist only to clobber intruders in their territory. They are short, stubby, and carry a hunchback. They are seen wearing a blue and white stripey shirt. They walk on all fours like a gorilla.

Battle Strategy
Ape Pirates attack in only one way: they charge suddenly, run over their foe, and run away. Unfortunately for them, their lack of intelligence does not stop them where their foe jumps, and so if somebody such as Rayman jumps right next to a cliff, the Ape Pirate is sure to fall a great distance and explode.

Another way to handle an Ape Pirate is by lobbing a plum at one's head, in a similar manner to the livingstones from the first Rayman game. This technique can be used to reach high ledges as well, as it immobilises the Ape Pirate, allowing his plum-encased head to be used as a platform.

Eig is a very mysterious character from Rayman 2, also known as the Swamp Monster. He is sometimes mistaken for Jano, the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams, but he is actually a different character. According to the Knowledge of the World, he is a creation of Polokus, and he spends his time getting drunk on the fermented swamp-waters of the Marshes of Awakening.

In Rayman Revolution, Eig distinctly appears when traveling across the Marshes of Awakening. While he seems to follow Rayman and Sssssam, he is quite pacific and doesn't attack them. Although contact with Eig will cause Rayman to lose his hold on Sssssam and fall into the swamp-water, it is unclear whether or not this is Eig's intention.

In the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2, Eig can be seen for a split second as Rayman enters the second area of the Marshes of Awakening, and he sometimes appears in the swampy area near the beginning of the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava. You see his eyes just after you helicopter down from getting the second Green Lum in the level. There's a secondary branch of the main one to see eig. Without falling into the water, you can slowly approach him. The camera gets to an angle where you can't see what your doing, so you can't see what you're doing. You can see with first-person view. When you get close enough to Eig, blue sparks similar to a portal to theHall of Doors appear signifying that Rayman is close enough to almost be ate, but will not be.
