At least some Griskins have the ability to generate and manipulate lightning; when Rayman releases a group of Griskins from Palmito's tower in the third part of the level, they reward him by electrocuting two Hoodbooms and a Hoodmonger that were about to attack him.

The Leptys, or Night God Leptys, is a bird-like god whose known titles include ‘Bringer of Night’ and ‘Father of the Knaaren People’. The Leptys is worshipped by the Knaaren, who believe that he is their creator. It is not certain how this relates to Polokus, who created the Glade of Dreams along with most, if not all, of its inhabitants. Gumsi, the child king of the Knaaren, holds the Sceptre of the Leptys, an extremely powerful artifact which, when invoked, can grant the holder all of the Leptys's powers.

When Rayman defeats Gumsi's Knaaren champion, Reflux, in the arena, Gumsi rewards Rayman by invoking the Leptys and giving Rayman a fraction of its power: the power to turn Black Lums back into Red Lums with a Grimace.

Andre, the leader of the Hoodlums, persuaded Reflux to steal the Sceptre of the Leptys from Gumsi, so that Reflux would be able to use the Leptys's power to destroy Rayman, and so that Andre would be able to use the Leptys's power to reproduce.

The Leptys itself never truly appears, but a huge statue of it it seen in the Desert of the Knaaren. The statue resembles an eagle-like bird. After Reflux invokes the Leptys and becomes the final boss of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, he takes on a somewhat bird-like appearance, even growing wings.
It seems that merely possessing the Sceptre is not enough to access all of the Leptys's powers; Reflux embeds the Sceptre into the flesh of his own back in order to grow gigantic.

The Leptys is worshipped by the Knaaren in the Tower of the Leptys, which they seemingly built as a temple to him. When the Leptys is invoked at the top of the tower, a bizarre cloud formation appears in the sky over it. Rayman and Globox chase Reflux into this, and find themselves in an alien landscape, surrounded by strange clouds and eyes on stalks.
It is implied that this area explodes once Leptys-Reflux is defeated.

Kamikashi: Added a likely reason the Knowledge of the World is only revealed in Rayman 2.

The Knowledge of the World is the name given to a collection of important secrets relating to the Glade of Dreams and its creation, its history and its inhabitants. The Knowledge is contained within the Heart of the World itself; when the Robo-Pirates shatter the Heart into its 1000 Yellow Lums shortly prior to the events of Rayman 2, the Knowledge becomes separated and disseminated amongst them. As Rayman collects more and more of the Yellow Lums, the secrets gradually reveal themselves to him.

As Rayman gathers the Yellow Lums and learns the secrets, he ascends through five different stages of wisdom: Naïve, Novice, Enlightened, Wise, and Omniscient. Each of the five stages is subdivided into five different levels of wisdom, with the exception of the final stage, which contains only one. This makes for a total of twenty-one levels of wisdom through which Rayman progresses, each one revealing new secrets to both him and the player.

The Knowledge of the World is omitted from both the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 versions of the game. It is also not to be found in any other games in which Rayman collects Yellow Lums, such as the Game Boy Advance versions of Rayman 3 and Rayman Raving Rabbids, likely because only the Yellow Lums in Rayman 2 are also part of the Heart of the World, while in others, they are just conglomerates of energy.

What follows is the Knowledge of the World in its entirety, as revealed to Rayman throughout the course of the game:

Naïve
1–49 Yellow Lums
50–99 Yellow Lums
100–159 Yellow Lums
150–199 Yellow Lums
200–249 Yellow Lums
Novice
250–299 Yellow Lums
300–349 Yellow Lums
350–399 Yellow Lums
400–449 Yellow Lums
450–499 Yellow Lums
Enlightened
500–549 Yellow Lums
550–599 Yellow Lums
600–649 Yellow Lums
650–699 Yellow Lums
700–749 Yellow Lums
Wise
750–799 Yellow Lums
800–849 Yellow Lums
850–899 Yellow Lums
900–949 Yellow Lums
950–998 Yellow Lums
Omniscient
999–1000 Yellow Lums
Rayman must kill the Ape Pirate and steal his flying chair to enter the pirate base.... avoiding all obstacles in the way.
Phase 2
As Rayman arrives in the Top of the World's Robo-Pirate installation, an alarm begins to sound. The Barrel Pirates patrolling the corridors are on the alert, and soon Rayman must defeat several of them. After passing through many crate-filled storage areas, he discovers that the level's Teensie cage is nowhere near the exit. He must backtrack to search out the Teensie, which is hidden in a secret passageway; after freeing the Teensie, Rayman must escort him to the end of the level. ==Original version==
Whale Bay is the first level in the game to feature Barrel Pirates--however, fighting these powerful enemies is avoidable.

The first half of Whale Bay takes place in the Whale Bay Fortress, with Rayman attempting to locate the prison where Carmen the Whale is being held. In some versions of the game, one area in particular has respawning Robo-Pirates, making for some interesting challenges.

Rayman must first go through an aquarium right next to the spiral door and come out at the other side to activate a switch opening the door at the side, coming out to a room with a net for a floor. Outside, Rayman will encounter a purple Henchman 800. After defeating him, Rayman must climb a barrel and a net to reach another barrel and shoot a switch on the opposite wall to open the nearby door, barred with electricity. Inside the door, rolling kegs will try to harm him. Rayman must avoid them, while collecting the lums overhead. Outside the room, Rayman will encounter a purple Henchman 800 sleeping underneath a palm tree. Once the pirate has been defeated, the player can take a keg from a room to the right and use it to break a sparadrap holding a cage containing a purple lum. After that, Rayman enters a passage to end the first half.

The second half of Whale Bay revolves around the lake itself, and Rayman's attempts to free Carmen the Whale. After Carmen is freed, Rayman must follow Carmen into the extensive underwater cave network of Whale Bay, using Carmen's bubbles for air (considering the piranhas don't reach them first). Carmen leads Rayman to a secret grotto, where the remains of a submarine mark the way for escape. In most versions of Rayman 2, the level closes with Rayman exiting a beached ship, sliding down a watery slope, and evading a Gorilla Pirate.
While this level remains the same as that in the original version, one of the six Globox Crystals can be found in an underwater cave in Phase 2, where Carmen the Whale stops.
PlayStation version
In the PS version of Rayman 2, Whale Bay follows the Bayou level instead of the Canopy. The level is notably more difficult than in any other version, requiring the player to battle many camouflaged Barrel Pirates where in other versions the player would have just had to journey through respawning pirates and not have to fight any Barrel Pirates. It is possible, however, to avoid all encounters except for one. The ocean where Rayman rescues Carmen has been changed; instead of finding his way into a ship and triggering a switch, he has to find 4 switches around the ocean, similar to The Echoing Caves.

Carmen's journey is also majorly different, to a story-changing degree. Instead of taking Rayman to a grounded ship, she takes him to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. This essentially merges the two levels together; however, the first part of the sanctuary, as well as the sliding portion, have been cut out. As such, the only part remaining is the fight against Axel.

As such, the boss of Whale Bay in the PS version is Axel, the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Whale Bay's rendition is also unique in that it is the only appearance of Axel's to have dialogue. He states that he does not know Rayman's true intensions, and consequently Rayman is forced to prove his bravery by fighting him.
Revolution adds a connection between the Canopy and Whale Bay levels, compared to the odd linear connection in the other versions. In Revolution, Rayman must rescue Globox from the Canopy; otherwise, one of the Baby Globoxes will not help Rayman elude the Robo-Pirates guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. Rayman in addition profits from rescuing Carmen--Carmen then chases off the tentacle blocking the entrance to the nearby Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.
In Rayman 2 Forever, the Game Boy Color adaptation of the game, Whale Bay directly follows the Marshes of Awakening, and is where the first Mask of Polokus is located. Carmen is completely absent aside from an appearance in the world's introductory panel (see right).
